UN: Colo., Wash. legal pot violates drug treaties

6 of those are in my own language buddy. :p Doesn't this make you cautious?

Not that I'd ever take Zoloft. There isn't really a line between what is legal and illegal in terms of danger. The line comes in terms of what it is used for. For instance diacetylmorphine is used in some of the most severe cases of pain for trauma patients. On the street this compound is called heroin, and it is one of the most dangerous and addictive substances there are.

The line is drawn in terms of context of who is issuing it and what it is being used for in context of how dangerous it is.

Good point. But I still find it funny that pot/weed is taboo when we have doctors peddling Zoloft for pharmaceutical companies.

I'm confused what you're trying to say about Zoloft. If its being used causally and fraudulently being prescribed, then yes it is bad.

But there are some people who have severe depression for whom it helps immensely. Just as there are some extreme trauma patients for whom heroin helps immensely.

As for weed, don't let anyone fool you that it is harmless. I just don't see any use for it being legal.

Many people dont see the use in praying to god or getting tattooed by injecting ink into your skin with a needle. People smoke weed to feel better. Its sad but its the truth. All anti-depresents do is make people feel better. But they come with the side effect of "sudden death" and many other things. Why is gambling with 1 so extreme justifiable to you if done through proper channels yet "frivolous" weed needs to be infringed? Why is "sudden death" for moods good when okay'd by a doc but "munchies" is bad if decided by the individual?

I'm not in favor of legalizing the recreational use of harmful drugs, but this is none of the UN's damn business.

It's not even any of the federal government's damn business.

Per the Tenth Amendment, this belongs entirely to the states or lower levels of government.

Nowhere in the Constitution is the federal government given any power regarding recreational drug use, so it certainly has no authority to delegate that power to an outside organization such as the UN.
This is the first time I somewhat agree with you. :] Conservatives oughta embrace this as a states rights issue. Then they can win over some the young people they desperately need for future elections.

This would seem to be a Liberal leadership problem.

The Liberal cattle will not be denied their drugs, particularly pot. On the other hand, Obama, like Clinton, loves the UN. Clinton saw the UN as his pathway to be President of the world. Obama sees the UN as a way to punish the United States for it's prosperity and powerful sovereignty.

Obama would like the corrupt 3rd world dictators that run the UN to dictate what the United States can and cannot do. Obama would see that American surrender and subordination as America receiving what it deserves for being successful.

The Liberal globalists in both parties, led by the elite Jewish Neocons, with loyalty only to Israel, are determined to take America down, even if it means using the UN as a tool to do so.

I don't do either of the first two... I'm agnostic and don't see a point in tattoos ;).

But anyways, the point of pharmaceutical agents isn't to feel better above feeling normal or fine, the point of them is for clinical pathologies. Neurological disorders may be less well understood then other disorders, but nonetheless major depression, when it is actually major, is a disorder that goes far beyond one's mood. Sudden death associated with Zoloft was ~1.59% of those who reported side effects with Zoloft, primarily in people with primary pulmonary hypertension, multiple myeloma, dialysis, diabetes, and multiple sclerosis. So you don't give Zoloft to patients with those conditions. If you want to know why some things are okay under a doctor, its of understanding things like this. You can't just let any ole Jane or Joe open up a shop and start selling Zoloft on the street. Its not something meant to be taken just to "feel better."

I don't think people should be thrown in prison for weed. I personally wouldn't care if it was legalized, so long as people don't smoke it around me. On a personal level, I don't see the need to do something that I know is harmful to my health just because it'll temporarily feel good. I merely start throwing red flags when people start saying "oh whats so bad about it" or "oh why is this legal and that illegal." Well there are answers to those questions, and no, someone did not just pull it out of their ass.

You might be surprised to know that not all young people are hard left. At least 90-95% of the Republicans I know in college are more libertarian-leaning rather than conservative, and a vast majority of the Democrats I know focus more on social issues rather then economic ones. I would speculate, that in the next decade or so the GOP is going to be the party of the Libertarians, much like it has been the party of the Evangelicals for as long as I can remember.

You sure have a narrow view of the world. All liberalism is bad and conservatism - why, you pretend it doesn't exist.

Do you know that there is not a single place in the entire world where drugs are legal? Well, actually, there is one - North Korea does not have an anti-pot law. Even Holland, famous for drug cafes does NOT have legal pot. They keep it illegal but work their way around that by regulating the crime. Why? Because we all signed on to the drug laws.

This faux outrage about the UN I've heard for the last 40 years. Americans always consider themselves to be above the world's laws because we are so ****ing exceptional. All the whining in the world won't change reality by one iota. We signed a contract - our President Richard Nixon (R) a notorious Jew did that. What a Liberal he was!

I see you figured out that it's those evil Jews behind all this. When you graduate grade school, consider a career as a detective.

That would definitely be an improvement.

You hold words on paper created by the few more dear than real people. If the UN were to ban cigarettes and beer with some dip**** american politicians signing on you really think the people should be punished and not the stupid politicians?

It's difficult to see what your point is beyond throwing a tantrum.

•••Yes. If the US signs on to this imaginary law you postulate, it can and will be enforced. Are we likely to sign on to this? No. Is it likely to be formally proposed? No. Considering all the drug punishment in process, apparently that is the way it works. You do know drugs are illegal right? You do know that the US was the originator of these draconian drug laws?
I'm hardly advocating this. I'm just attempting to inject an element of realism into the conversation.

•••You are correct. I think you get on my nerves with your endless anti-liberal, anti-america, anti-obama and anti-jew postings and I lashed out at you. It was inappropriate on my part and I apologize. That doesn't invalidate the rest of my post though..

I think you would be hard pressed to find anywhere that the state laws are advocating for illegal importation of a controlled substance. Similar to MANY signatory countries in the UN that have decriminalized possession of marijuana, The US has an independent Constitution that always has had ALWAYS WILL trump the UN.

We wont bother going into how big a joke the UN actually is, especially with regard to its placement of member states on the Human Rights councils.

Don't apologize to me, I don't care what you think. I was just pointing out that I couldn't make sense of your post.

We are, or were exceptional in that we for one have a Conztitutional that shows our rights are inalienable.

That is if God grants them, then no man should be able to take them away.

Also wev'e chosen for decades to embrace the notion of free markets and individual freedom and made the choice of NOT wanting our Government to step in and be our mommies.

Pot ? I hate that ****. But, I don't think anyone should go to prison for smoking it either.

New studies are showing the permenatly damaging effects on the hipocampus region of the brain and on the frontal lobes of long time users.

I like my brain the way it was intended to be, free of pharmacueticals or mild halucinogenics, save for the occasional adult beverage.

There are millions of laws that "take away your freedom". Indeed, I constantly hear from both right and left a desire for more laws that will take away "the other guys" freedom.

That doesn't mean I advocate those laws. But they are my evidence that "freedom" is a very elusive concept.

As per my previous posts in this thread we agree that:

Pot is NOT good for you and it SHOULD be legal. But it isn't legal and it never will be. You can thank Mr. Anslinger, Mr. Hoover and Mr. Nixon for that.

You'll have to name them. Honestly I'm not a libertarian and realize the rule of law is needed to make sure someone else's "freedom" doesn't impose on your freedoms.

Well this could be the issue that brings the left and right together for once. I don't think either wants the UN to call the shots on this matter in their locality.

Just cuz' some **** named Hoover hated drugs dun' mean I aint gun' stop smokin'.

The clearest one is the drug laws which is the OP topic.

There are also laws that affect voting, driving, farming, taxing, manufacturing etc.

Many laws don't seem to directly affect other peoples freedoms but those laws are in place nevertheless. Freedom sounds objective but in practice, it is very subjective.

You'll have to name them. Honestly I'm not a libertarian and realize the rule of law is needed to make sure someone else's "freedom" doesn't impose on your freedoms.

You have very little to fear from the UN. It's the US you have to worry about.
