Does he have a chance, or is the name Bush to toxic to win? Being a liberal, I wouldn't vote for him, however I've always thought he had his act better than his brother, the for POTUS.

"I have a voice, I want to share my beliefs about how the conservative movement and the Republican party can regain its footing, because we’ve lost our way," former Gov. Jeb Bush (R-Fla.) told Matt Lauer of NBC's "TODAY Show" on Monday.

"I won’t [rule out running] but I’m not going to declare today either," Bush also said.

He'd be dumb to rule it out. Being a Bush in the GOP is similar to being a Kennedy or a Clinton with the Democrats.

If he does run, it'll be fun to watch Bob Smith University backtrack about how horrible Catholics are.

I think he'd probably be a top tier candidate in the primary along with others like Marco Rubio and Bob McDonnell. I also think Bush would have one of the better chances of the prospective Republicans to win in the general, despite the public's dislike for his brother.

I would say that Americans learned from the first two not to put another Bush in the whitehouse....but then again.....there are still 29% of Americans that think GWB was a good President...so almoist 30% of the Country would likely vote for him straight out of the gate.

As someone who promoted Jeb Bush in the last Republican primary and who has already gone on record as believing he will be the next President of the United States, I'm not surprised by this development and encouraged by it. This is a perfect time for Bush to get out there, while Obama is becoming irrelevant and before a new Democrat voice dares challenge Obama's leadership in the party. The vacuum in leadership voices can be filled by his reasoned, adult, respectful approach to seeking solutions to today's problems.

I hope he doesn't... I'm not a fan of dynastic governance when it comes to the POTUS. People should not be voted into office for having a certain last name, and you can bet he would get a lot of votes based on that alone.

This right here might (will) hurt his chances:

Jeb Bush Book Rejects Path to Citizenship for Undocumented Immigrants - ABC News
Earlier today, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R) came out against a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, reversing his previous position on the central tenet of comprehensive immigration reform.

According to a copy of Bush's new book "Immigration Wars," obtained by ABC News, the ex-governor's plan specifically rules out the possibility of undocumented immigrants obtaining full citizenship if they remain in the United States. Bush makes an exception for young undocumented immigrants, known as DREAMers, who were brought to the U.S. as minors.

I would vote for Jeb Bush. He is probably one of the few that could really energies the base and bring in the independents.

The problems repubs have with winning the white house have more to do with the party than any particular candidate

In order to win the nomination, he'll have to win the votes of every rightwing loon, and we all know what that means. Conspiracy theories, denial of scientific verities, and support for the policies and politicians with socially repugnant views. He will have to pander to the extreme fringe of the right on abortion, immigration, gay rights, evolution, religion, race, etc.

And as a result, he'll lose whatever pretensions he has of being perceived as a moderate and reasonable republican.

I believe you meant Bob Jones University.

The most important Repub decision of 2016 will be when Jeb decides whether to run himself or continue to sponsor Marco Rubio.:elephantf

my guess is that he doesn't have a chance. i watched an interview with him tonight; he seems to be a good speaker, and i'm sorry for him that his brother poisoned the well somewhat. however, he's most likely another supply-side-only true believer, and that's not something i can support.

IMO, Jeb should run with Rubio as his running mate.

Good evening, Jack, like your smilie!

Unfortunately it's unconstitutional for POTUS and VPOTUS candidates on the same ticket to be from the same state. Good evening, Polgara.:2wave:

What about if one of them moves in the meantime? I'm not being snarky, but 2016 is a ways off.... :)

Really? I did not know that. Where is it in the Const? I would like to see that. Not doubting you, I am just curious.

Evening Jack....do you think he can win with the Bush name?

From where I sit, Jeb would be a better president than his dad or his brother - but that's a faint praise indeed.

In terms of political tactics, he would be a great Early Distraction: faint a serious campaign, make all the "liberal" media wet themsleves in a frenzy of newly-found Bush-bashing - then step aside, and make the actual nominee look fresh and immune to all the nonsense attacks.

Evening Polgara.....do you think the Bush name will hurt Jeb? Also, are you having a good day?

I was not entirely correct. The bar is not explicit but procedural. Both candidates can come from the same state, but electors cannot vote for two candidates from their own state. Thus, if Jeb & Mario ran together, Florida's electors could not vote for both.

I like Jeb Bush, in fact if he had been running last year, he would have got my vote instead of Gary Johnson. I have never trusted Romney. I can usually figure out a president withing 6 months of his inauguration. I have never been able to figure out Bush Jr. In my book he was either a genius or an idiot. I will let the historians decide that. Bush Sr. wasn't bad, I voted for him in 88, but in 92 I went for Perot. I sure wish Loyd Bensen had headed up the democratic ticket in 88, I would have voted for him, but no way Dukakis. Remember the old joke back then, Bush had picked Dan Quayle for VP in 88. The question was, do I vote for Bush and hope he live or do I vote for dukakis and hope he dies.

I know, bad taste. But I couldn't help it. If I were a Republican which I am not, I still cling to my Reform Party credentials. For me the dream team for the GOP would be Jeb Bush the nominee for president and Bob Portman of Ohio as his VP candidate.

Good evening, JC.

Jeb Bush was a very popular Governor in Florida, so I don't think the name will hurt him. This does not mean that the Left would spare any pains smearing him, though, but that is to be expected. The two Bush Presidents were different types of men, and Jeb has his own style of governing.

I'm having a typical Monday, whatever that means to anyone... :( More snow on its way...four to five more inches, I hear! You?

With Floridas' voting history, I could appreciate them functionally being left out.

Thanks for the info. Interesting, did not know that.

George W. was a popular governor as well, and yes he won, but Jeb would run after two pretty unpopular Bush presidencies. Who knows.

We'll probably get grazed by the storm here, maybe an inch or two at most:) Sorry:(
