US court declares Sea Shepherd pirates

Again, it doesn't matter a hill of beans( haven't used that one in a long time ) in respect to the present discussion.

I guess you would have also saved the Christians from Nero, while I would have sent them to the dogs, right? Why not say I would stone women too, while you are out there in la-la land.

Hey, just taking your property is king, even bad laws must be obeyed to its logical conclusion.

Not really pirates, terrorists are an accurate description. Frankly, I go 50/50 on this. I agree with the Japanese claim of cultural difference and the emotional attachment that many western cultures place on these animals. I'm actually quite OK with the concept of whaling as long as its thoroughly monitored to ensure it sustainability, which should be the case when harvesting any fishery or none farmed natural resource. There are whale species that have quite healthy populations.

As far as the Japanese go, they don't always take population into consideration and they do harvest whales that don't have healthy populations. They could go a long way to target only species that have sustainable populations.

Haven't had the opportunity to try whale meat, but would if it was of a sustainable species.

I love it how you latched onto the boat being property, yet completely ignored that they are putting lives at risk. Keep up the good work!

If they are gona eat em I really dont care. We are predators whether we like it or not. We eat pretty much anything that moves. Or not. Its called life. I am pretty sure you eat pork and beef and other meat. They aint excactly happy about being eatin either. Side note pigs are very inteligent animals and know when their number is about to be up. Some dont go quitely. They leave the world just like they came into it. Screaming. Life isnt nice or pretty. Why people get hot bothered over it is beyond me.

You're probably into clubbing baby seals too.

Especially if I get a nice fur seal jacket out of the deal.

If you are a hunter you probably gut shoot deer too. I hate slob hunters and they give us real hunters that only take good clean kill shots a bad name. There is no reason to not be as humane as possible and loading live dolphins onto trucks along with clubbing baby seals crosses a line.

Declaring the Sea Shepard organization as "Pirates" does not elevate the motives or intentions of the Japanese in the slightest. In fact, that court ruling is not a comment on the Japanese actions at all, it is only a comment on Sea Shepard. The Japanese, traditionally fond of enormous brutality and sneak attacks, would kill every fish in the ocean if they could. Also deplorable is Japanese fishing to put Shark Fin Soup on the table, they catch the sharks, cut their fins off and throw them back alive.

What I think is important is the idea that even if you are trying to aide a good cause, but do it illegally, you are still a criminal. ... Trying to save whales by intentionally putting other humans at risk is the wrong way to do things...

I know. But I still root for them to stop the illegal whaling in the anarctic. Does that make me a bad person? :(

This wasn't done as a move to combat piracy. It was done as a move to salvage economic US-Japanese ties. Whales be damned.

I dont like eating venison so I dont hunt deer. I hunt coyotes and wild dogs and two legged vermin. Dont hurt my feelings a bit, gut shooting the two legged vermin. I try to aim a little better for the dogs and coyotes.

By the way there is no such thing as a clean kill. Theres always a mess left behind.

I doubt sea Shepard is going to be discouraged by this ruling, as long as it gets attention for its cause. Then again it is not like the Japanese are telling the whole story either.

Why haven't these jerks had their asses thrown in jail and their vessels confiscated?

Probably for the same reasons the Japanese whalers haven't been thrown in jail and their vessels confiscated" The **** occurs in international waters and they operate in countries that support (or at least do not actively oppose) their actions.

Doesn't it open up the possibility of sinking them? Like, isn't it legal to shoot t pirate ships who attack you?

Not really. These encounters happen in international waters, so the US law doesn't apply, necessarily. What it does is make it more difficult for them to dock in US ports, and makes it possible to seize assets in US courts.
