The release of about 300 illegal immigrants from federal custody in Arizona this week has raised a firestorm of controversy in this volatile border state, which has one of the nation’s toughest laws against illegal immigration and is home to highly vocal groups on both sides of the debate.

Senior Republican officials in the state, including Gov. Jan Brewer and Sen. John McCain, sharply criticized the releases, which the Obama administration said it is carrying out in several states in anticipation of budget cuts under sequestration. Brewer, an outspoken opponent of illegal immigration, called the move “pure political posturing” that would endanger public safety.

Jumping the gun a bit aren't we? Is this political grandstanding at its best?

Great idea! The states should follow this federal lead, to save money, of course. Release all non-violent prisoners, on parole conditions of never returning to that state and drop them off in DC. ;)

My understanding is that a lot of them are being released with ankle bracelets saving about $125/day/prisoner and these are people who are illegal but were picked up on minor charges like driving without a license. It isn't like murderers are being turned loose.

First I've heard about the ankle bracelet thing, I think you have been the victim of a con job.

I saw it on TV last night--The CBS news I think.

Why would they do that....for the State of Indiana Home Monitoring Cost 300 a week. They would lose money to release those off home monitoring who are almost done with their time.

Course there were some strategists that thought Obama might try and Cherry Pick Programs to make as bad as he was saying with the Sequester and that he would do so in Republican States first.

The short answer is Obama is not planning to deport them but to grant them amnesty instead so to the democrats they are future voters.......

Do you have a link to support this "understanding"? When one is confirmed to be here illegally, they cannot legally work so how does the gov't expect them to LEGALLY provide themselves with food, clothing and shelter? This sounds very suspicious to me.

Dammitt all, that sure takes the wind out of the right wing grandstanding!

Slaps the gubmint can't act in the face of a looming problem rant down a peg or two as well.... :peace

Exactly! Obama will never suggest cutting money losing AMTRAK routes, or downsizing any tax money to demorat voter programs or cutting useless gov't supervisory personnel. He has, no doubt, suggested that "most visible" services be tragetted and to cut off contract employee services but to keep all civil service personnel.

It looks more irresponsible then that. Reacting for the sake of reacting doesn't always get positive results. A well measured plan that could be inacted at the zero hour would have been more appropriate.

Illegal? CNNs headline said just immigrants yesterday, nothing about illegal???

I already provided it. Watch the CBS vid I linked.

That does NOT answer the question of how they are expected to support themselves for months/years prior to court dates or why EXACTLY they are not processed for deportaion when KNOWN to be here illegally. The ILLEGAL ALIEN man interviewed expressed shock that he was not deported, after MULTIPLE stated crimes; illegal entry, driving w/o a license (insurance?) and speeding, he made no mention of working illegally but I doubt that he is simply visiting with rich relatives. Our immigration enforcement is a joke, on purpose, to create more demorat voters.

You asked for the source of the information I provided. I gave it to you. If you want answer to your other questions, you will need to find sources on your own. How someone is "expected" to do things would require you to ask the POTUS I guess.

Re: Release of about 300 illegal immigrants from federal custody in Arizona stirs up.

One thing I can say about democratic politicians, they do know how to plan for the future....their own personal future.

PS: If I was Jan Brewer I'd be waiting at the gates of those federal prisons and pick up every single person that they let out and then determine if they are illegals or not. If they are deport them, if not, let em go unless there is sufficient cause to keep them.

The releasees are not violent, cost far less to monitor than keep in prison. I'd say it is a matter of opinion to say the authorities reacted just to act.

When the drought hit I had a decision to make, I could sell ALL my cattle when I ran out of hay or some early to make the remaining hay last longer. I went through that herd with an eye to what would serve me best in the future and culled the rest. Went from 98 head to 22. We are still behind in rain but I now have 36 head and building back up.

I COULD have waited until I was out of hay and sold them all, or kept a select few (the more violent offenders in the case of the OP) by getting rid of a bunch (in the case of the OP the detainees who had minor infractions).

So you can see how I can see the release differently than you. I have had to make a rather tough and somewhat heart breaking (the herd was built over the years by a breeding program that was JUST beginning to throw the calves I wanted) decision on what to do in the face of circumstances I had no control over. Perhaps a rain will come and save the grass, allow me to bale more hay before I ran out. Perhaps the Gubmint will stop the BS and find an answer to the deadlock.

But I thought it prudent to not bet on rain in time to save my herd, and I think it prudent ICE not think the Deadlock will end quickly.

It didn't rain til the next spring so I feel I made the correct decision, time will tell on the release... my money is on it is the correct decision too. :peace

ICE doesn't sacrafice anything by waiting for the deadline. The releasees are not cattle. ICE made a political statement. Please tell me one single negative outcome of waiting until the deadline to do what they did.

It costs money to feed and house prisoners, many are not kept in federal prisons but state and county facilities that charge rather impressive rates to hold federal prisoners. I'd opine the politicians so upset by the release are more upset their district will lose a federal teat to suck on.

You seem enthralled by governance by crisis. Rather than wait for the shortfall why not get out ahead of it? Why not be proactive in planning? When did putting into place a plan BEFORE the fan is turned on become a bad thing?
