Senate Confirms Hagel as Secretary of Defense

I have no problem with it....In the end the POTUS is entitled to choose his cabinet....Too bad this is a transparent ploy for Obama to just place someone in there that he can push around.

And if Congress doesn't like his cabinet appointees, he can always appoint czars.

The Democrats did not unilaterally oppose every Bush nominee and everything that Bush attempted to do. In fact, that was the problem with many of the Democrats....they were so afraid of their own shadows that they caved to Bush on everything.

Really? Then who were those people in the Senate filibustering GWB nominees?:bs

Hagel is a nice guy and a fellow vet but in all truth he is not qualified to be POTUS.

I'm not talking about judges. Judges have often been held up by both parties. I'm talking about cabinet members. When Republicans even oppose a Republican it screams volumes about the party of NO and their efforts to oppose everything that Obama does.

And now that hes confirmed? Tempest in a teapot.

28 judicial nominees and 6 executive nominees were filibustered.

Please list all cabinet level appointees that have been filibustered please.

I'm open to you showing us what legal precendence shows that Hagel is not qualified.

Perhaps he'd have received less republican friction to his nomination if he had the distinguished track record of heading up the International Arabian Horse Association.

"Cabinet level" was not part of the discussion.

The discussion is Chuck Hagel's appointment to a cabinet level position is it not?

That is not the question I was asked. Nonetheless, here's a couple who were filibustered although Repubs mustered the votes for cloture. Kempthorne (Interior) 2006, Portman (USTR) 2005.

And now thanks to the GOP...

Cornyn told The Cable, "There is a 60-vote threshold for every nomination."

He must be a joy to live with.
