Michelle Obama surprises Oscars by presenting Best Picture award

I'm looking for an argument and all I see is vague platitudes. When you get an argument, get back to me.

Sarah Palin are two words that tear your argument to shreds.

She is non-traditional (her daughter is an unwed teenage mother), she is outspoken in her beliefs, and she got more hate from the left than Hillary and Michelle could ever get this perverse PC world we live in.

(Oh, and, conservatives kinda liked her. So much for that paternalistic "keep em in their place" nonsense you were ramblin about)

Too bad Sarah Palin, as well the other shining star, Bachman, are complete idiots and unfit to be politicians.

There are a lot of women republicans, I am certain that are extraordinarily intelligent, well mannered, well spoken and well informed on all topics. Hell, even on this forum you see women who identify as conservative who would be a far more superior candidate for the republican nomination than Sarah Palin or Bachman, from a quality standpoint.

It's great that you passed a value judgement. I despise the woman myself. But, alas, she is a woman, with a non-traditional family, who was loved by many conservatives. So that 50's era paternalism is bunk leftist drivel unworthy of a second response. I'm sorry I even gave it the legitimacy of my time.

LOL, she is traditional. She's all about tradition. Of course there were a few "oops" moments that made here look non-traditional.

Can anyone in here name who these racists are who attack the Obamas because of their skin color?

Where are all these hateful bigots?

Cause I sure know a lot of folks claim these racists exist.

But where are they?

Please, name names.
Well, I do recall someone saying that obama is an light-skinned black man with no negro dialect unless he wanted to have one.
I thought that was pretty racist.

Actually there is some great video evidence confirming the bolded. Speaking to a (church?) group in the deep south 5-6 years ago. Don't see where there is anything "racist" about it. But it is sort of funny to listen to.

Being loved by people is necessary requirement to be President, but it shouldn't be a sufficient one.

Attention whoring at its finest. Pathetically low class, turning the White House into an extension of Hollywood.

pathetic jealousy, if the republicans had such a representative for their party they would be cooing and crowing like crazy. If the Romney's had won and his wife would have presented the Oscar for best film they would be cheering her on and saying that it was perfectly fine.

I wonder, when Laura Bush was a guest host on the Today show, whether these same republicans were acting as immature about that then too.

The republicans are envious because unlike them, Michelle Obama is actually liked by the US people.

I like the idea of the President doing interviews before the Super Bowl, no problem with that, as he's talking policy mixed with a little football to a huge audience. I don't think what Michelle did here was horrible, just a little weird and below a first lady's dignity to present an award at one of the most pretentious events out there.

I'm not Americanized - I'm not "right wing" - I'm not a zealot - I'm simply a man who sees a charlatan leading the greatest country on earth and the rest of us out here are worse off because of it. Perhaps you're pressed up too close to actually recognize it.

The question should be how can so many Americans not see this man for what he is.

and in the spirit of admitting our errors...I will admit that I was wrong in suggesting that others have had a more prominent role. I was under the belief that Reagan had appeared in person, at least that was my recollection. In checking I discovered that his was done via tape as well.

Even if Reagan had appeared n person he was actually part of that business.

Michelle Obama has nothing to do with the Hollywood crowd and should not have inserted herslf into the show.

I wonder what she will do when her husband leaves the White House. The spotlight will dim. What will she do?

Can we also say that the academy is racist because they never asked a white first lady to present the best picture award?

How do you know she inserted herself, rather then them asking to insert her themselves?

Why did Laura "insert" herself, by your seeming suggestion, into the show when she was part of a video montage for the Academy Awards? Why did George Bush and Laura "insert" themselves into American idol. It's not like they were "part of that business".

The answer? TV shows like to get a big catch like that, and those politicians realize that those shows reach a TON of people and can potentially be used to push a message, so when an option is presented to go onto American Idol to push for Charitable donations to the Military or to go onto the Academy Awards to push the benefits and importance of the arts for our youth, they take it because it's very little effort to reach a very large population...a population typically not actively engaging in political channels so sometimes may not be as easily reached.

It was reported they asked her.

She should have said no. She has nothing to do with the Hollywood crowd and she had no place presenting that award, or any award.

Did Laura Bush present the Best Picture award?

You can have your opinion but the reason they asked her to do it is she is tight with the Hollywood crowd. That never would have happened with a Republican first lady. You can't argue that point.

It was reported they asked her.

So they interjected her into it, and she accepted.

She should have said no. She has nothing to do with the Hollywood crowd and she had no place presenting that award, or any award.

So what if she has nothing to do with them? Why must someone "have something to do with them" to become involved? Bush has NOTHING to do with the singing industry, but it was perfectly reasonable for him to go talk on American Idol. WHY should she not have done it? Or is your ONLY reason seemingly that she wasn't involved with it in the past?

If that's the reason, are you suggesting the first family should never be involved in anything they don't personally have previous experience in? So for instance George Bush shouldn't have gone Biking routinely with Redskins coach Jim Zorn because George Bush was not involve in the world of Football, so he shouldn't have "inserted" himself into it by starting that act up. Or even more, no President (other than perhaps Ford) should ever have Football teams (or other sports teams) to the White House...I mean, there's no reason to "insert" the white house into the worlds of sports when they have no expereince with it.

Did Laura Bush present the Best Picture award?

So where's your exact line? Participating in a video honoring a hollywood figure....okay. Participating in the presentation of an award....not okay?

You can have your opinion but the reason they asked her to do it is she is tight with the Hollywood crowd. That never would have happened with a Republican first lady. You can't argue that point.

So? Suddenly you're all for political correctness and a private body should be forced to either act 100% evenly across the board or people should just boycott them essentially? Are you saying that any group that would never ask a Democratic First Lady to attend should never ask a Republican one either? Or is this standard just for things you disagree with and when it applies to Democrats?

... I wondered into that lame part of DP again. 15 pages of people complaining about the First Lady, who's job is to essentially do PR, doing PR.

She is non-traditional (her daughter is an unwed teenage mother), she is outspoken in her beliefs, and she got more hate from the left than Hillary and Michelle could ever get this perverse PC world we live in.
I still think Republican John McCain's joke "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because Janet Reno is her father." is in a level of its own.

Were GW and Laura Bush part of Hollywood when they appeared on American Idol? No, they appeared to promote charity.
Michelle Obama appeared to help promote the arts in school.....same idea.

Oh...and Reagan had long not been a part of Hollywood when he appeared at the Oscar's.

I have no problem with the first lady appearing at the Oscar's for a good cause....If hollywood and liberals are tight, maybe they can raise some scratch for the kids....

The First Lady takes no oath, receives no salary from the tax payers. She can do whatever the hell she wants, for all I care.

Did you hear she went sleeveless. The audacity. Laura Bush would never have gone Sleeveless.

I'm not surprised, at all that Michelle did this. Some of their first big backers were Hollywood, that's no secret. The Obama's are good at rewarding their friends and supporters that's no secret either. Now weather or not she was invited or she invited herself remains to be seen, but they are hand in and anyway, so it was probably not even that big of a deal within the two camps. The 2012 campaign would have probably failed without George Clooney and Sarah Jessica Parker, which in turn made a venue for other wealthy celebs to join in and back the President for Re-election. I don't know why the right is going so crazy about it. If they don't like these crazy thing that the President is doing, they could have done something about it, but no. There was too much infighting inside the Republican Party to even back a single candidate. Too many conspiracy theorist cried that Romney bought the election. They are saying it's state run propaganda and brainwashing. I didn't see any propaganda here! Unless if you consider viewing Michelle Obama on TV propaganda well then your a lost cause. Now, I think when she went on Sesame Street, that was a little too far but it's not like others didn't do the same thing.
