Popular D.C. Burger Joint Forced to Shut Down

I'm noticing a curious shift away from personal responsibility to a keen over-reliance on the federal government's policies, and it ain't the restaurant I'm talking about.

I was noticing this, too. This place couldn't possibly have failed because of a bad business model, or because everyone likes Five Guys or Potbelly instead
 
Restaurants come and go, especially in big cities. No big thing.
 
Since 2 of his 3 restaurants were shut down for not paying rent, it sounds more like an owner who was either pocketing cash, or his management wasn't paying the bills and pocketing the cash.

Business fails under republican administration: you failed and you deserve to fail because you're a failure.

Democrat administration: the government screwed you somehow!

Obamacare is destroying small business all across the country

Worker hours are being reduced to 29 to get around the regulations.

Wow, what some Republicans think of Obama is beyond me. When businesses were going under at the end of the Bush administration, I didn't hear a peep from them..................


And I think I know why................


Republicans believe the stereotype that a black president's wand is bigger and more powerful than a white president's wand. :mrgreen:

The rightwingers can't decide if Obamacare is placing unbearable burdens on businesses or if it's easily avoided by shifting workers hours

So, you can't understand how an employer, who has cared for their employees, might not want to cut their hours, but is at the same time faced with a new governmental burden forcing them to either close their doors or make the cuts?

No contradiction, just a lack of understanding on your part. Perhaps a willful misunderstanding, since you obviously don't appreciate the position those business owners are in.

As the owner of several small businesses, I know more about it than you. How many businesses do you own?

In my lifetime I've started, owned and sold over 20 businesses. I know more about it than you do. And I understand being inbetween a government rock and hard place.

It doesn't sound like you've done a good job of running those businesses if you're finding yourself in such difficulties. I've never had any problems complying with the law, even though my businesses have been in industries that are highly regulated

Have you ever run or started your own business?

I know of many construction companies right now that plan on laying people off and reducing hours because of Obamacare. All the petty insults in the world can't change the economy reality that Obamacare is having on small business. You were warned this was going to happen, but you didn't care. The only thing that matters to people like you is ideology. That somehow a magical politician is going to pass a bill and everything will be fine. Wrong.

So, there never been a new government regulation that caused you to make a Hobson's choice? I don't believe you.

Yes, I've started and run many businesses. Haven't had one fail yet. And I've never had any problem complying with the law either

And I'm not alone. Every year, thousands and thousands of people start new businesses that succeed. Many of them are people who immigrated to this country. If they can do it, so can anyone else.

It takes a rightwinger to blame the president for their own failure to run a succesful business. It's just a part of their principled belief in "personal responsibility" (for everyone but themselves)

None of my businesses were ever harmed by any govt regulation. In fact, almost all of those regs benefitted my businesses. At their worst, they were benign.

Wow, the only way any of that is true is if you don't give a crap for your employees. In that case I had you pegged wrong, I thought you were more employee oriented and less robber baron.

It's obvious that you've got nothing substantive or factual to argue. That's why you have to imagine that I've done something wrong with respect to my employees, though you know nothing about them, or if I even have any employees.

This is why I don't believe you. You came off saying you've owned these businesses, as if that was relevent, but now you modify that to say you may not have ever had employees? Despite what they're telling you, addressing envelopes at home is not a business (for the purposes of this discussion).
