Not just a bunch of businesses... "dozens"... which was followed by more inanities claiming government regulation helped his business... ROTFLOL...
Hey... he's your typical government loving leftist... and as we know... Leftists are liars.
There is only one who I respect, and that's Denis Kucinich... because he is the very rare Socialist who tells you what he and his party want to accomplish. He reveals the nutso ideology of the left... and FOXNEWS was smart to hire him. Of course... the leftists will lament they picked a loon to represent the left... but the left is loaded with loons... it's just that this one isn't a pathological liar.
And for those who say regulations don't harm business... Just Say No. Half a brain is a still a bad thing to waste.
BTW sangha... fitting avatar.
Since the rightwingers think it's impossible for govt regs to actually help a business, here's an example
One of my businesses involves importing a food product, pumping it out of the barrels it comes in into my own, smaller containers, and then selling them. Several years ago I was informed that I would have to comply witih HAACP regulations. HAACP is a law passed after 9/11 meant to insure the safety of our food supply. In order to comply with those regulations, my partners and I had to purchase more than $70K worth of equipment (not just pocket change) that sterilized itself and insured that the product would not be exposed to any contaminants.
This was an extraordinary expense, and it did not add to the profitability of my pre-existing sales. However, by complying with HAACP, my company is now able to sell our products to a large # of companies overseas without having to go through harrowing licensing procedures. Instead of having to go through the bureaucratic hurdles that umpteen nations place on imports, now all I have to do is show that I am HAACP-compliant. Before HAACP, we wouldn't even *try* to sell overseas. We didn't even think about it. Now, it's nearly as easy as selling domestically. As a result, we have expanded our sales.
Another example: I used to be in the ice cream business. Dairy products are highly regulated. Spilled milk isn't just something to cry over; It's considered a hazardous material. While getting the business up and running we were subjected to numerous inspections and we were instructed to change all sorts of things (ie equipment, processes, etc) While all of these things cost money and time, in the end, they protected the product from getting contaminated, which protects the consumer from being sickened, and protected my company from liability.
Another example: I run a web-based business that supplies financial info to the financial services industry. I download a data file from a govt agency, perform some calculations on the data, and then post the info on a website where my customers can query it, or download the entire file. This business would not exist if it weren't for the regs which require the govt to collect the info, and supply it to the public (for a nominal fee).
