Dr. Benjamin Carson's speech at prayer breakfast

I love Dr Ben Carson... God Bless him..

He is a great guy. I met him one time during a fund raiser dinner for pediatric brain mapping research in Balto when I lived there...He is a very gracious, and humble guy for sure, and a great conversationalist....

Okay, we are a little far into the weeds here. Listen, the bottom line is that Dr. Carson outlined an alternative view to Obama's agenda, and what was the fall out for that? He (Dr. Carson) was ripped in the liberal media.

Nothing new here, a conservative, or free market African American speaks out, and is immediately attacked.

Ripped? Did I miss that or is thus a goal post change?

No, just trying to get it back out of the weeds, and on topic.

But that wasn't the topic. The OP doesn't present the media picking on Dr. Carson. The OP merely shows the speech with a comment from you about the look on Obama's face. I admit that isn't much of a topic, but it is the one in the OP. Where does the "liberal media" come in?

In the reporting of this speech....

In the reporting of this speech....

I've seen no evidence of this. Listen to a very good and respectful discussion with him on NPR today.

This isn't news. These are entertainers trying to rile you. It's their job. Why would anyone take this seriously?

So Beckel, isn't involved in politics? He isn't a liberal? What?

Robert G. "Bob" Beckel (born November 15, 1948)[1] is a progressive American political commentator and an analyst on the Fox News Channel, where he currently co-hosts The Five. He is also a columnist for USA Today where he writes "point–counterpoint" style articles with friend and political opposite Cal Thomas.

Beckel was the campaign manager for Walter Mondale's 1984 presidential campaign.

Beckel is a graduate school professor of politics at the George Washington University.[5]

Hmmmm....So it seems it would fit what I said....

He isn't worth listening to and doesn't represent the news media. He plays a character in order to illicit controversy and rabid response. Anyone reacting to these types of entertainers, be they left or right, are part of the problem, not the solution.

Well, isn't that convenient for you...I say that liberals attacked Dr. Carson, you ask for names, I give you one, and as usual you dismiss it immediately....Sorry Joe, that is simply just too dishonest for me to continue with you....It's a waste of time to discuss anything with an ideologue such as yourself because you will constantly play the silly game of asking your opponent to meet a burden of proof that you yourself don't have to show...I'm not doing it anymore.

Dr Carson is definitely a man that deserves respect and admiration. He went from poverty in Detroit to becoming a renouned neuro surgeon at Johns Hopkins hospital. You may not like his politics but you do have to admire him. For those interested, there is a movie about his life entitled "Gifted Hands." Cuba Gooding plays Carson. You can rent it on Netflix.

I expected you to actually give me something. He's a paid liberal on Fox paid to play the fool. Do you seriously believe he speaks for any thinking liberal?

J, this is not a game on my part. It is a serious critique. Using entertainers who are paid to manipulate conservative sheep is not the way present a serious argument. I'm still waiting for you to present something real.

"Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) -- said his speech was too political for a religious event like a prayer breakfast."

Dr. Ben Carson: White House asked for advance copy of speech, request denied - National Social Issues | Examiner.com

How 'bout Jan Schakowsky? She a paid clown too, other than being who she is, that is....

“Our politics have become so polarized and corrupted that a president of the United States cannot even attend an event devoted to drawing people closer to God and bridge partisan and cultural divides without being lectured about his policies,” wrote Cal Thomas

Dr. Ben Carson Blasted for Attacking Obama Policies at Nat. Prayer Breakfast | The Afro-American Newspapers | Your Community. Your History. Your News.

"We can have a meaningful debate over whether or not Carson’s policy ideas will work. The content of his proposals having nothing to do with why I was bothered by the speech. I was troubled by the speech for three main reasons:
1. As Stackhouse notes, Carson used his speech at the NATIONAL PRAYER BREAKFAST to talk about health-care and other controversial topics that tend to divide rather than unite. Such a speech was inappropriate on such an occasion. I might add that conservative columnist Cal Thomas is with us on this point.
2. Carson disrespected the office of the President of the United States with his speech. There is a time and a place to criticize the president’s policies and a prayer breakfast is not one of them. Again, I agree with Thomas: Carson owes Obama an apology.
3. At the end of his speech Carson told a patriotic story about the War of 1812 and the bombing of Fort McHenry. In the process he came very close to duplicating the historical error made a couple of years ago by evangelical pastor Dudley Rutherford.
Carson defends the speech here, claiming that “someone has to be courageous enough to actually stand up to, you know, the bullies.” I don’t disagree, but not at a prayer breakfast. He also claims that his position on health care “comes from the Bible.” I was unaware that the Bible offered a specific health care plan."

There you have a few libs using the event to attack the dissent, and shelter the do nothing, failure we today call President. I assume you have google...Look the rest up yourself.

The fact you're working so hard and off your claim shows how wrong your claim was. Your claim (post 174):

He (Dr. Carson) was ripped in the liberal media.

In post 180, you specified reporting. This claims requires as support a significant part of the media criticsing Dr. Carson.

Re. Schakowsky is not the media. And the only criticism there was the venue and not the message.

Your other article is not even mainstream, and hardly anything that would be supportive of your claim. Yes, you can find someone who says anything. But you made an overriding claim that the "liberal media" attacked the dissent. You have not demonstrated this is true or significant.

Gee, what a blistering "attack"!! :lamo

You'd think a guy who gave a speech on political correctness could handle criticism, but I guess the rightwingers who support him can't handle it.

Haha! That's funny right there.

The doctor has handled it just fine.

true, because the anti-PC whinings of the Dr and his supporters are a "fine" way to demonstrate their support for speech that isn't politically correct
