Winter nor'easter sweeping into Northeast

We've had well over a foot of snow here in Toronto, just today, not counting last night, and it's still coming down pretty good.

Count us here south of TO in Rochester NY as having already a foot easily with another foot expected overnight. I've snow blowed my driveway twice already to stay on top of it as my plow service doesn't plow during the storm.. Go figure.. LOL

Great sleeding weather tomorrow though. kids will love it.

it's smart to get the traffic off of the roads, just in case.

I always like to keep ahead of things, but can't with this one - I shovelled three times last night and just finished my fourth go today - each time today it was about 4 to 6 inches - this old back has had enough - supposed to be warming up and sunny tomorrow so should be one giant pile of dirty slush in a few days but for now stranded inside. If you're in Rochester, that means the storm must be circling around Lake Ontario and heading south now to meet up with its other parts coming north.

Good luck to you and hope your kids have lots of fun!

Thanks Brother! I lived in Edmonton for a few years in the early 90's and their winters were bad, but nothing compared to Sudbury ON. Man-o-man, Sudbury winters are brutal, but snow machining is booming up there. :)

This, what we have here today and expected overnight is nothing. I suspect a Sudbury native would call it a light dusting. :)

The whole country laughed at Toronto back in the 90's when the Mayor of Toronto called in the army to assist in the clean-up after a large storm - we haven't lived that down yet - yesterday, the current mayor was even asked if he will consider it again and he gave an emphatic NO.

We have about an inch and a half, maybe 2 inches so far. It's been accumulating rather slowly so far. From here on out, it's really supposed to pick up, and I believe they said a couple of inches an hour all night long. I can really see that it has picked up now too. Up to 2 feet expected.

Central NJ got 8 inches of snow from Nemo. Roads are already plowed, nothing major happened in the area. Just more snow than we usually get. We usually get 3-4 inches from large systems and during blizzards this is a normal amount to expect. There was worry we could get a foot of snow or more, but that happened more up north. I heard Long Island is bad on the radio this morning.

32 inches, or up to my waist, in the front yard and road. And still work is hounding me to come in.

Gives me a lot of respect for the US Postal Service. Neither rain, nor sleet, nor gloom of night, nor Easter, can stop a mailman from making his appointed rounds.

OK, guys, you can shoot me now.

I'm a Southern boy so its difficult to relate.

Hope everyone makes it through this safely.

My Bro-in-law who grew up in Michigan told me snow is really fun until it doesn't stop, shuts down the roads, kills your power ( ice I guess ) and makes you a prisoner in your own home.

After its cleared ( piled up by the city or state ) in parking lots it turns into a mushy brown muck.

*pictures or it didn't happen*

Just kidding. A friend on mine who lives in the Newtown area posted a bunch of picks on his FB. No Thank you. Southern by the Grace of God

I'm just popping in to let you know that we have about 2 feet of snow here. I lost power last night and just got power back about 1/2 an hour ago.

It was a long cold boring night. Brrrrrr! Very cold. I have electric heat so I had NO heat last night.

Anyway, I have a LOT of shoveling to do, so see you guys later! :) Good luck to everyone!

Oh, and BRAVO National Grid for getting the power on so quickly!! Thanks guys!!

I have to say, I love the ocean when it's windy and stormy - something about it just captivates me - but I'd hate to be living on the other side of that roadway at the time the pic was taken.

Beautiful day here in Toronto today after snow-mageddin yesterday - also love a bright sunny day following a big snowfall.

Thanks! :)

Lol! Yes, always eggs, milk and bread. So, if you start a business like that, don't forget about the eggs, bread and milk! :2razz:

It's really kind of silly because if you lose power, your eggs and milk are garbage.

What? It's a snowstorm. Put the stuff in a cooler and put it outside. When we lived in the Chicago burbs the snowdrifts near the door looked like they were growing beer bottles.

So do you think anybody up there learned anything from the hurricane or will they be sitting around hungry and cold waiting for FEMA again?

snow is great when i don't have to commute over it. that doesn't happen very often, though.

usually, it involves sitting at work, watching the radar, waiting for 4 pm, and hoping that my 40 minute commute doesn't become two hours of white knuckle excitement, or worse.

i hate commuting.

That would only be a problem if the door was on your second floor.

i think i'd consider it a problem, but one with a solution. i'm pretty good with a shovel after many Midwest winters. however, i'd still prefer not to see that. hope that the homeowner is able to dig out.

shoveling snow burns 430+ calories in an hour. when i wake up and see significant snow, i know that means it's cheeseburger time.

Friend West of Hartford Ct. sent me this. I'd say 2 feet +

I didn't have to do that thankfully.

What makes you think I would know?

Wow! That's a BIG snow drift. Lol!

I always used to include Beer in that list...:) And no, your perishables are not bad if you lose power, at least in winter....The great thing about that is a cooler on the back porch packed with what you want to keep cold will serve just fine.....Also, break out the grill for cooking and fire up the fireplace....

Heck, we were prepared enough, as a truck driver, I have a lot of things that can either run on batteries, or charge by plugging them into the the car, including a TV, so, as long as you can stay warm, and prepare meals, we used to use the time to get a little family time, playing cards, and games, and such....;)

Yes, it is the perfect time for these kinds of things. While everyone else is running around like a bunch of crazies at the end of the world.. you can be starting a camp fire, roastimg mellows with the kids and telling stories. I know growing up, the most memorable times in my childhood was playing card and board games as a family. These kind of things seem to not happen as much anymore because of the internet and video games.
