Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about[W: 55]

1.)She told the entire world where said person was at said time, what they were doing, and how much they spent. 2.)You want I should do the same thing to you, sometime? Sure, THIS time, it seems innocent enough.
3.)But you do understand why this sort of thing can't be allowed, right?

Also, credit receipts are the property of the restaurant, not the folks that work there.

1.)really, where do you get this info at and if it is out there what part of it is private(lawfully protected) and not public?

2.) do what to me? you havent explained what you are actually talking about that is a crime or exposing my "private" info

3.) no i see no reason to make a legal issues out of her picture at all and no reason why it shouldnt be allowed. Also what do you mean by allowed. You want laws to stop a person from taking a picture that displays a note given to you?

4.) says who? your opinion? a law? what says that. I had a girlfriend that worked at a restaurant and she brought ALL her receipts so she, she (as all waitresses there) were responsible to tally things for something at the restaurant and it was a good idea to also track your yourself.

so again i ask and state.

what personal information?
theres no legal action here for the info she posted.

please explain what you are talking about that factual or even supported by the article.

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

The waitress should not have posted personal information about the preacher on the internet, so I agree with her firing. As for the preacher's reputation being ruined? He did that himself, by being a douche bag.

Looks like her reputation is now so bad, people think she's a guy.

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

I once had horrible service at the restaurant located at Howard Johnson's New Center in Detroit. About 45 minutes after I ordered, my food still wasn't there, so I asked her politely how long it would be. She replied "You'll get it when I'm damn good and ready to give it to you". So I left her a 2 cent tip. The waitress went ballistic, and was throwing dishes and smashing them, while calling me a ********er. The police had to be called. LOL.

This is why I won't eat at ANY restaurant where they forcibly make you tip. In my world, you get tips if you deserve them.

Don't know if this was mentioned, I was away for a while...

Apparently the waitress who posted the info didn't even wait on the Pastor.

Oh.. well then that's kinda going out of your way even more so then extra. That's akin to you telling someone a secret for them to tactfully diffuse a situation and them blurting the secret out. As in she put business on front street that wasn't even her business that the originating "victim" might not have wanted on front street. There is nobility in whistle-blowing but not when its as trivial as a non-tip blamed on god.

The best way to keep a secret is don't tell it to anyone.

You certainly don't want to post it on Facebook.

Get him Mr. Pink.

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

We should do away with tipping and the waitstaff should be paid a living wage and just add it to the bill. If a server is bad then call for a manager. The notion that tipping creates better service is just insane. what is happening is that you turn the wait staff into independent contractors to each of their tables. Why not just add to the bill.

But in the current environment if you can't afford to tip you can't afford the place you are going to. Eat at McDonalds.

Do you think the pastor was a jerk? YEP absolutely
Do you think the waitress should have been fired. Tough call, depends on the employee handbook, i wouldnt have fired her but at the same time not sure i can point to anything saying she shouldnt have been fired.

I would have suspended her and thats it.

That Pastor is ghetto and a jack ass and YES, she should have been fired NOT suspended.

She's not in High school, she's working for a private Company in the Real world.

It took me about 10 pages to realize this was from last year. wtf? :whothere:

 moving on....

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

I'm torn....posting someone's information online isn't cool...but the pastor was a corncob.

Every business gets bad customers. I've fired over 800 customers over the years. But I know better than to publicize information about them on the internet. The waitress was dead wrong and received the correct punishment. The company's reputation can be harmed by this sort of thing. The waitress should have put the the $5 or $6 behind her and smiled more sincerely at the next customer. That is her job.

Re: Applebee’s fires waitress who posted receipt from pastor complaining about auto-t

I would have fired her. She's an idiot. Her judgment can't be trusted. She published information and an image online that strictly belongs to her employer. Oh, the so-called pastor's an idiot, too.

Though I agree she is eligible to be fired, given the totality of circumstances, there is no way I would have fired her. Rather, I would publically decline the pastor's business.

You're giving her the benefit of the doubt when there is no doubt.

Should a server be allowed to take a photo of a customer she thinks is wearing an ugly dress and post it on her Facebook? How about a "Look at this stupid hairdo!!! ROFLMAO!!" Perhaps snap a pic of a particularly obese person and comment on how many trips he made to the all-you-can-eat buffet? Respect privacy.

The server who did this deserved to be fired. Life isn't fair. Sometimes the people we serve as waitstaff stiff us. We don't have the right to publicly humiliate them. She was wrong. She got what she deserved.

Ok, I would probably uhmmm.... "ask her to resign" to maintain work place discipline and to prevent "ugly dress photos". She would, however, be eligible for re hire.

Some people have a soft spot for animals, I have a special dislike of pastors and priests behaving badly as it impacts the public perception of Christianity. As a result, I have sympathy for the waitress.

I agree with you, but does this respect for privacy (in public, they are still in public regardless) apply elsewhere? How about the "People of Walmart" site? The photos aren't taken by employees, they're taken by customers ostensibly with no company affiliation whatsoever, but do these people in the pictures deserve no less a courtesy of the same respect?

I'm not altogether sure it is actually legal to automatically add a tip to a bill. But so far, no one has tested it. The tip is a gratuity that is voluntary. IMO, there are legal problems with forcing a gratuity which, for other customers is entirely voluntary. I don't think it has made it into the courts and given the amounts likely will not, but if it ever did, I think the practice would be found to be illegal.

One could argue if it wasn't posted on the menu. Most restaurants do, though. It's their terms of service. Nothing illegal about it.

Big parties often stiff waitresses, many times quite by accident. It's good policy.

This sums it up.

I seem to recall that it has been tested legally, and rulings have come down all over the place, so it depends on your jurisdiction.

If he felt comfortable letting the waitress know what he thought, why would he be against letting the world know, too?
