Clinton To Face Congress on Libya Assault.....

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton faces tough questions in her long-awaited congressional testimony concerning the assault on the U.S. diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.



Clinton is the sole witness Wednesday at back-to-back hearings before the Senate and House foreign policy panels on the September raid, an independent panel's review that harshly criticized the State Department and the steps the Obama administration is taking to beef up security at U.S. facilities worldwide.

Clinton's testimony will focus on the attack after more than three months of Republican charges that the Obama administration ignored signs of a deteriorating security situation in Libya and cast an act of terrorism as mere protests over an anti-Muslim video in the heat of a presidential election. Washington officials suspect that militants linked to al-Qaida carried out the attack.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said Tuesday that Clinton would focus on the Accountability Review Board's independent assessment of the attack and the State Department's work to implement its findings.

"Systematic failures and leadership and management deficiencies at senior levels within two bureaus of the State Department resulted in a Special Mission security posture that was inadequate for Benghazi and grossly inadequate to deal with the attack that took place," the panel said in its report last month.

The report singled out the Bureau of Diplomatic Security and the Bureau of Near East Affairs, saying there appeared to be a lack of cooperation and confusion over protection at the mission in Benghazi. The report described a security vacuum in Libya after rebel forces toppled the decades-long regime of strongman Moammar Gadhafi.....snip~

Indeed.....Time for Clinton to pay the Piper, before she leaves Washington. Now is the time to bring down all that Incompetency down around Clinton's Ears. The FBI has been dragging their azz on this issue from the get go. Might have to do with.....that they shouldn't be investigating Anything concerning Intel and on Foreign Soil in the first place. Don't expect her to talk about why Stevens was out on that Street 2 hrs earlier with the Turkish Ambassador, considering the Turks had removed all Embassy personnel during the Gadhafi Clash. Also they should make that distinction over that Militia and who they think was connected to AQ over the attack. That would be the same militia that was providing security for our people and then later set up Roadblocks and were firing on our people.

One other issue they need to bring up to Clinton and Obama.....Why have they not asked for the Head of the Sunni Cleric in Egypt who Never saw the Anti Muslim Film.....But yelled Fire on All the Worlds a Stage. Clinton needs to answer that question considering she talked to Morsi. If we can lock up the guy who made the film over his probation. Then we should be able to lock up that Sunni Cleric in Egypt. If he refuses.....then we should send a hit team to put two in his hea. Thus making sure such will never happen again!

Finally, hopefully she won't try and squirm away from answering questions.

She will assert her "disappointment" with the outcome, point to a few underlings that "made mistakes in judgement", claim total ingnorance of "the details" and assure all that changes have been made in the areas found to have been "less than perfect". This will go exactly as the fast & fuzzy hearings and investigation did, people died but nobody at "the top" had any "direct involvement" and executive privilege will be used to assure that the official "top level" non-involvement story remains intact. Nothing to see here folks, move along...

McCain says there was a cover and has been moved to this Committee. Rubio and Rand Paul are the other two that are expected to take it to Clinton. Especially Rand Paul!

I don't like the fact that she can hide behind the FBI investigation. None of them should be able to do this if being forced to testify before Congress and or any Congressional Committees. She should have to answer those questions as she was there before the hapless FBI was assigned to this Issue. Also they should ask her wheres the Autopsy on Stevens Body?

"I take responsibility," Clinton said, echoing comments she first made in a TV interview on October 15 and stressing that she has accepted all of the recommendations of an independent review panel that ultimately held lower-level officials responsible.

The official inquiry concluded that the State Department was completely unprepared to deal with the attack, citing "leadership and management" deficiencies, poor coordination and unclear lines of authority in Washington. The inquiry did not find Clinton personally at fault.

A separate Senate committee report said the State Department made a "grievous mistake" in keeping the Benghazi mission open despite inadequate security and increasingly alarming threat assessments in the weeks before the attack.....snip~

Sen. John Barrasso, R-Wyo., a member of the Senate committee, questioned the status of the FBI investigation and whether any individual has been implicated.

"My last understanding is that there is no one currently still being held for questioning, no one's been prosecuted for this or held accountable even though the president promised that to be the case," he said.....snip~

Not exactly. Bush wanted forced democracy which largely had unintended consequences. A more peaceful, or at least organic growth would better. Still painful, still not a certainty to bring what is best for us, but better.

So you know the intimate details of Hillary's "democracy" from her testimony enough to be able to say "Not exactly"? There is not Obama policy on democracy in the ME that has been made public. There has been no effort on the part of the Obama Admin to facilitate democracy in the ME, unless you want to give them credit for the Arab Spring which is really a fallout of the efforts over the last ten years.

By facilitate, do you mean invade? And both sides do a lot of inaccurately taking credit for events they have nothing to do with. There were moves toward democracy long before Bush, and some have rightly argued he hindered them. But the point is, this is best left to them, and facilitating should be mostly though partnerships and aid, and not invading.

it would seem from the testimony that hillary has a much better understanding of the volatile nature of the area than Bush or any republican presently. Republicans harshly criticized her, and President Barack Obama's administration more generally, with one saying the Benghazi attack and the U.S. response displayed "woeful unpreparedness" for the events sweeping the region and another saying Clinton should have been fired.

Clinton at one point said that she had not seen requests from U.S. officials in Libya seeking additional security.

"Had I been president at the time and I found that you did not read the cables ... I would have relieved you of your post. I think it's inexcusable," Republican Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky told Clinton.

"It's wonderful to see you in good health and as combative as ever," Senator John McCain, an Arizona Republican, told Clinton, who responded by laughing. He then went on to say that he categorically rejected one of her answers and found others unsatisfactory.....snip~

Anybody who wanted to know the full story, could have easily turned on Fox News, Gone to Drudge or any right wing source and you could have heard about the four dead Americans.
