White House Press Secretary Jay Carney announced this afternoon that President Obama will unveil a “concrete package” of gun control proposals including assault weapons bans, high capacity ammunition magazine bans, and closing loopholes on background checks.

“They will be joined by children around the country expressing their concerns about gun violence and school safety, along with their parents,” Carney confirmed.Source

I personally think using children to illicit an emotional response from the US in order to make the announcement go over smoother is a pretty despicable tactic. I'm reminded of:

The tactic is transparent, and cheezy... reflecting the character we have in the White House. He's no uniter, he's Marxist who would fit better, far better with the Communists in the Greek parliament.

But hey... when ignoramuses of Parasite Nation elect a Marxist, regular Americans have to do everything in their power to send Republicans in Congress a clear message... slow down or stop our Supreme Leader or your ass is grass.

If Republicans are not willing to defend The Constitution of the United States of America, and with it America, then what good are you? You're simply an extension of Parasite Nation. We do not need Republicans to "get along", we need them grow a form a firewall against Parasite Nation and their Marxist leader.

Kids don't know **** about life, the Constitution or guns. The only reason he got letters from them is because their liberal teachers gave them an assignment in English class.

Obama is a despicable human being for taking advantage of these children to further his liberal agenda.

He should be ashamed of himself...but he isn't.

Do you have any idea how many people, including children write the president? He doesn't bring any of the others on TV with him. He's bringing them up there as an emotional ploy to smooth over his upcoming very unpopular executive orders.

We don't look to children for our answers on constitutionality, or really even answers on anything. I'd put the chances of them writing the president over gun control without provocation from a teacher or parent at about zero.

I wonder if before he signs it he'll turn to the children and loudly proclaim "I'll protect you from those bad evil men with guns!"

Not really, some of us are pretty big on intellectual honesty and if you need kids as props to make an emotional appeal, your argument is already intellectually dishonest at its best.

So we should create legislation based on what children write in letters to the president?
Is that it, we can by pass the whole, graduating, going to college and learning part?

We shouldn't ask any questions, because children are involved?
We shouldn't point out the pathetic appeal to emotion this is?

Besides tugging at the heart strings, this tactic also helps the Secret Service protect him. It is less likely that someone hating him will take actions against him with the children around. Saddam Hussein used to use that tactic himself.

Strangely enough, this doesn't massively bug me outside of the standard "political pandering" level of outrage that....let's be honest here....both sides have a tendancy to invoke. This was predicated in part of being an issue "about the children" from the start so this isn't out of line with what their focus has been the whole time. If it just suddenly was like "Oh yeah! Kids at the announcement!" then I'd perhaps be more disgusted...but given that the focus has been largely around "children" this whole time, this doens't really seem like anything other than standard political theater. It's hard to get upset about **** that happens routinely...be it kids, soldiers, poor union workers, or ailing small businessmen.

Nothing new here. It's the same old line the Democrats use when they are planning to shove something up America's arse: "It's for the children." The Clinton's used it until even the kids got sick of hearing it. But it plays well in the media and media "thinking" is what works in a nation too damned slothful and doltish to think for itself. Later tonight after the announcement, Americans will be arguing over which broadcast network was less biased in its coverage of the President's announcement. :roll:

The sad, sad, truth is it works or the government wouldn't use it. And so it goes.

Ive always believed that emotions make you weak. Im not saying to completely ignore your emotions but for them to intentionally invoke citizens emotions and make us feel "bad" about wanting our fundamental rights is an irresponsible abuse of power and influence. It really disgusts me. Why cant we just all look at concrete facts and make educated decisions.
