In December, school officials put her in a room with one of the boys who had been sexually harassing her and admonished them to 'discuss their issues.'
K.J. left that classroom with a gash over her right eye.

We can all be horrified at this story coming out of NYC, and the actions, or shall I say inaction of the teacher involved in this tragedy. But the larger question here is that of the mother who says that she tried to get her daughter removed from that situation before this happened, only to be either ignored or rebuffed by school system officials that thought they knew better. We hear nothing in this story of what happened to the teacher who did nothing during the attack, or if the administrators in question were suspended as well. Why? My personal thoughts are that the Union is protecting these scumbags, and proponents of the Union wonder why it is that anecdotal evidence is so often used against unions in today's conversation, well, just read this story, it is appalling.

Nothing will happen. Schools always blame the victim.

Re: Mentally challenged girl, 15, 'gang raped under her desk during class as teacher

The mindless ineptitude of putting a mentally challenged girl in a classroom full of violent juvenile delinquents should have been enough to fire that entire school's staff. I sincerely hope that criminal charges are filed against not only the offenders, but the staff as well for creating the environment that endangered her.

They did fire the teacher and rightfully so. If the teacher was only feet away as the article states then the teacher should be arrested for accessory to a crime.

Am indifferent to the Union's role in this sex crime. I really don't think it exist to prodect scumbags as such. The union has its pros and cons and a big con is keeping inadequate teachers employed.

I just don't want this to become a kicking teachers thread because of the lack of supervision by this one teacher. Kind of like when one moron goes on a shooting spree and everyone attacks all gun owners.

You have to remember that the state always knows what is best for us and for our children. We mere private citizens can't be trusted to do what is best and we NEED the state to guide us and provide for us so that bad things don't happen.

Wait, what?

Ok I get it. Conservatives don't even read articles when it comes to teachers. Teacher bad, union bad.

And the idea that schools always blame the victim... :lamo. How on earth does that mesh with the idea that schools are this place of horrifying, overbearing political correctness?

Re: Mentally challenged girl, 15, 'gang raped under her desk during class as teacher

Again with sourcing the filth that's the Daily Mail. While I have no doubt it happened, the details of the story I can doubt.

I have two children who spent 12 years each in public schools. I know what happens in schools. Investigating the hell out of something is not a repercussion. They will do nothing. If the woman is suspended it is with full pay. If she is fired the ANA will have her back in less than 6 weeks.

Is that nothing

Re: Mentally challenged girl, 15, 'gang raped under her desk during class as teacher

The article appears to be based upon the lawsuit filed so it is all one-sided and hyped up so I'd take it with several grains of salt. That said, I oppose mainstreaming mentally challenged kids--always have, always will.

I was wondering how you would be able to exploit this for politics. How low can you go...

It's just not enough. They need to give the two perps a few days in jail with Bubba, the famously horny 300 pound Bubba with a 60 IQ. That woud be justice.

 What? Surely you must be joking....This incident is what it is, I am here to discuss it....You don't like that it was brought up? Now that is politicizing it if you ask me.

Did you read the section of the story where a school official thought it would be constructive to have the girl sit down with one of her attackers and talk it out, "the Girl left that day with a black eye".....Yeah.....hmmmm.

That is not something the school can do

Seriously?

You read this story and THAT is what you have to say?

Fabulous use of satire!

People who run the schools in this country are idiots. My brother always said that anyone smart enough to be a teacher is smart enough to do something else. That is why the schools are failing. They are all idiots. The smart people do something else. Where I went to school those who flunk out of Nursing always declare El Ed as their new major. It's all they are able to pass.

That is not something the school can do

Yes it is. All they have to to do is call in law enforcement. But the won't. To do so would make it public and expose them for the idiots they are.

The girl or her mother can also bring in law enforcement, and by all accounts should be the ones that do it. The girl and her mother would be the ones to press charges.

So now it is my fault you went political in the first post? That is an interesting spin...

This isn't about me....Is there something you'd like to constructively say about the opening article/story that happened in NYC school system? Or would like to continue down this path of personal attack?

Re: Mentally challenged girl, 15, 'gang raped under her desk during class as teacher

One mentally challenged girl in a room full of juvenile delinquent boys with violent tendencies? Sheer idiocy. The Administrators should be sacked and banned from ever working in the field again. The teacher was fired, but I would say she should face criminal charges. Gross negligence or child endangerment, or something along those lines.
