Jerry Brown: California's deficit is gone

Statements like this make me crack up over the obvious ignorance many people have about budgets. The statements show that the person doesn't even have the most basic understanding of what a budget is

If they had that understanding, they'd know that a budget is nothing but a set of assumptions AKA projections. Criticizing a budget because it has assumptions is like criticizing a bird because it flies

You're pretending that revenue has never been "lower than expected" after a tax increase. That there will be no change in tax payer behavior after the tax increase. Good luck with that. Like I said before, you have more faith in Moonbeam than Morpheus had in Neo. It's hilarious.

Get back to me when Brown's magic pixie dust pays off CA's debt and 500B in unfunded liabilities.

Are you saying that the PROPOSED BUDGET(and any budget is proposed) isn't the first time, since the 1990's that the state could propose a budget and see a surplus instead of massive deficits?

Obama's Economic Team predicted we'd be at around 5% Unemployment if we passed his Stimulus

How did that turn out?

How has CA made a comeback? This is hilarious. You have more faith in Jerry Brown than Morpheus had in Neo.

He has proposed a budget based upon a multitude of assumptions, accounting gimmicks, and offsets, meaning he's not counting the inconvenient facts such as 500B in unfunded pension liabilities, existing massive debt, cities going bankrupt, and massive waste/fraud/abuse being committed in the Entitlement System.

It's always the same with you Religious Fanatics that believe in Government like a God. A liberal politician makes a declaration/proclamation and you believe it, regardless of past failure. Nearly 25% of the population of the state lives in poverty. Each resident of the state represents about 10K in outstanding debt. About 1/3 of CA residents are on welfare. It has the highest sales tax and income tax in the entire country and was voted the worst state to do business in by Chief Executive Magazine

Another Triumph for Texas: Best/Worst States for Business 2012 | ChiefExecutive.net | Chief Executive Magazine

When Moonbeam pays down the debt and finds a way to cover all those unfunded liabilities let me know. Right now you're propping up a fairy tale and drinking some seriously strong kool-aid. The problem is Brown spiked the punch.

Really?

How have those Obama "budgets" turned out genius?

You could have saved yourself a lot of typing if you just said what you actually thought: "That's impossible, Jerry Brown's not a Republican!"

He tried that once, and was justifiably kicked to the curb.

He tried a lot more than once.

I was quite a big fan of his back in the 1992 election. All the way back then he was extolling the virtues of keeping money out of elections. There was no internet drives and the like back then so he, at every speech, would give out a 1-800 number for people to call and donate and he wouldn't take small donations from any one donor. This man walks the talk far more than most politicians.

What does a stimulus passed to pull the our nation outta THE GREAT BUSH RECESSION have to do with a PROPOSED budget?

Ahh the lame blame Bush card again. Haven't seen this tired, cliche laughable dodge about a billion times whenever you clowns can't refute facts.

Apparently you missed the recent Economic report that places all the blame squarely on Democrats

New Study Blames Community Reinvestment Act For Mortgage Defaults - Investors.com

Democrats and the media insist the Community Reinvestment Act, the anti-redlining law beefed up by President Clinton, had nothing to do with the subprime mortgage crisis and recession.

But a new study by the respected National Bureau of Economic Research finds, "Yes, it did. We find that adherence to that act led to riskier lending by banks."

Thanks for playing! :2wave:

You need a new schtick. The whole "Dodge noted" trolling you do to almost everyone nonstop is played out. Not to mention it doesn't hardly ever seem to apply.

You couldn't possibly find a more bias writer to feed your debunked ideology?

Notice how many are bringing statistics to the argument while you bring op editorials?

Living in your sheltered bubble while digging up confirmation bias hackery is the ultimate dodge noted.

You gotta follow the dots...and the recession starts on bushes watch but I can see why you want to avoid the mere mention of his name.

Would it make you feel better if, when following my dots, that lead me back to the President whose economic policies of starting unfunded wars, combined with ill-advised tax cuts during said wars who started the worst recession since his soul mate Herbert Hoover was President?

If that is the case i would be more than happy to refer to bush as "the president who got the least votes and still served two terms".:2wave:

I looked up your Truman quote in your sig. It's even a better quote when put in a fuller context:

“Republicans approve of the American farmer, but they are willing to help him go broke. They stand four-square for the American home--but not for housing. They are strong for labor--but they are stronger for restricting labor's rights. They favor minimum wage--the smaller the minimum wage the better. They endorse educational opportunity for all--but they won't spend money for teachers or for schools. They think modern medical care and hospitals are fine--for people who can afford them. They consider electrical power a great blessing--but only when the private power companies get their rake-off. They think American standard of living is a fine thing--so long as it doesn't spread to all the people. And they admire of Government of the United States so much that they would like to buy it.”

-- Harry Truman

TL;DR

"Republicans are the party of small government and self-reliance. I'm a giant douche"

I see... so are publicly admitting that single paragraph is out of your reach? That's rather interesting.

there really should be a requirement that one have at least a higher single digit iq to register on DP wouldn't you think?:(

"Democrats are the party of handouts. They want to buy votes by promising people things--healthcare, retirement, government job, free tuition--that they themselves don't have to pay for. It is enslaving the poor and minorities to a lifetime of government dependency, which serves none but those they continually re-elect. They believe deficits don't matter, lest they should think beyond their next re-election. And finally, they seek to characterize America's historic achievement as not the achievement of the people--"you didn't build that"--but rather as their achievement, creating through government all that is good in our country."

If mine is rubbish so is yours.

yet Democrats were the only ones that have managed to balance the budget since Ike.go figure.

Which Democrat was it again who first said that deficits don't matter?

Do you say that everytime someone calls you on the verbal diarrhea that you think is debate?

I don't like Jerry Brown anymore than most people, but if a Republican governor made these claims you wouldn't be able to worship at his altar fast enough.

Your dodge is also noted. In fact, you should work for Chrysler as much as you dodge.

Admittedly, I'm a Jerry Brown fan, but it is Jerry and the Legislature that accommplished this feat, working together. No obstructionism. could there be a lesson here?

Accomplished what ? The ability to lie about next year ?

This is for the liberals. Reality check time.

Never happened. Ike was the last President with a surplus. Show me the National Debt totals for any two consecutive years where the latter year was lower than the prior since Ike.

You can't do it. Cause you have forked tongue like Jerry Brown ........ aka liberal ignorance ......... ;)

I wonder if Whip could tell us where the budget for the Federal government is...I mean, it's been Obama's entire term, and NO budget at all.....Did Obama change parties?

I think that the best Whip could do is pass us all another cold beer. Not necessarily bad, but not high on the scale of "what I am best at" either.
