Four die in shooting in Aurora, Colorado

I don't think this was a spree killing. I think it was a hostage situation. In fact, I suspect it was a domestic dispute.

In any case, I don't know what, if anything, is going on there. I'm sure many people will assume that it is entirely the fault of people being armed or not armed, though.
 
Nothing out of the ordinary I suspect. I doubt this incident would have made international or even US national news if it hadn't happened to occur in the same place as the high profile shooting previously.
 
Apparently the guy was on drugs.
 
Anyway don't blame the gun. It's just a tool.

When the tool makes it easier to arrive at the undesired result it is entirely logical to include it is the discussion of root causes. When an examination of the evidence at hand also suggests the tool is used more often to illegal and/or antisocial ends than positive social ends it becomes downright illogical not to include it in the discussion of root causes.

Please note the very purposely used plural in “root causes”.
