That is what I am asking.. what aint true? I get conflicting information on what the whole issue is.... if it is the Israel issue then it is true... provided we are talking about the same thing.. hence me asking!

Iran's Foreign Ministry says it is hopeful the appointment of former Nebraska Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel to lead the Pentagon would improve relations between Tehran and the U.S.

Asked about Hagel's nomination, ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said Tuesday that Tehran was hopeful that there would be "practical changes" to U.S. foreign policy, and that nations would change their attitude towards the U.S. if it respected their rights.

Hagel's nomination is causing jitters in Israel, on the other hand, where some view the former Nebraska senator as unsympathetic or even hostile.

Netanyahu's office refused to comment on the appointment, as did officials in the Israeli foreign and defense ministries. But Rivlin's comments reflected what has been a common sentiment among analysts and commentators here in recent days. In their evening news broadcasts, Israel's three main TV stations on Monday all portrayed Hagel as cool toward Israel.....snip~

They could always call up Kerry. :) He isn’t on their Gentiles We Do Not Deal With List, is he? Or they could do the adult thing and suck it up, respect this country’s sovereign personnel choices, and in the process not making things any worse with Hagel than they supposedly are. Likely it just requires someone other than the hardest hardass doing the talking with Hagel.

The ad claims Hagel voted against sanctions on Iran. It’s true that Hagel opposed unilateral U.S. sanctions, but he has voiced support for multilateral sanctions, such as those imposed by the United Nations.

The claim that “Hagel voted against labeling Iran’s revolutionary guard a terrorist group,” is also accurate, but incomplete. Hagel has repeatedly called Iran a state sponsor of terror, but he opposed a Senate resolution to designate the revolutionary guard as such because he feared it was a precursor to a military attack — which he opposed.

The ad uses an outdated quote from Hagel calling military action against Iran “not a viable, feasible, responsible option,” to suggest his position is at odds with Obama’s. The quote in the ad is from 2006. Since then, Hagel has said the U.S. should keep “military options” available.

Chuck Hagel, who co-chairs the Obama administration’s Intelligence Advisory Board, says the United States should offer Iran “face-saving ways” out of the nuclear crisis and let Arab countries to take the lead in ousting Syrian president Bashar al-Assad.

In a wide-ranging interview March 9 with Al-Monitor Washington correspondent Barbara Slavin at Georgetown University, where Hagel teaches a weekly class, the former Republican senator from Nebraska hinted that private approaches to Iran were already occurring. He praised President Barack Obama’s handling of foreign policy and said Obama could do even better in the first two years of a second term.

Al-Monitor: Do you still consider yourself a Republican?

Hagel: I don’t know what the Republican Party is. I know why I registered a long time ago; my first vote was in the Mekong Delta absentee in 1968. But we’ll find a new center of gravity... After the American people speak in November, that gives us some new possibilities. If the president is re-elected, like most two-term presidents, your fifth and sixth years can be your most productive.

do think Obama’s done a good job overall. There are a lot of things I don’t agree with him on; he knows it. I have the honor and privilege of seeing those guys a lot. [Vice President] Joe [Biden] is a good friend. Obama and I got to know each other pretty well in the Senate even though he wasn’t there very long. As you know, he asked Jack Reed (D-Rhode Island) and me to go to the Middle East with him so we spent a lot time [together]… I have the highest regard for him in every way. I think he’s one of the finest, most decent individuals I’ve ever known and one of the smartest… I try to remind my Republican friends when they hammer him that this is a guy who inherited the biggest agenda of problems in this country ever inherited by a president since Franklin Roosevelt and maybe worse. Roosevelt didn’t inherit two wars that were messes with a global financial crisis. Everywhere you look, this guy had problems to try to dig his way out of it. And I think he deserves some credit.

Maybe we aren’t as far down the road as we could be, but I don’t think we’ve gone backward. We’ve gone in the right direction. Any president … first two years of his administration he’s really dealing with the previous administration’s budgets… That’s why I said it’s the fifth and sixth years of a two-term president that give him the biggest window.

Al-Monitor: If he’s re-elected, what would you like to see him concentrate on in terms of foreign policy?

It seems Hagel doesn't know what he is, let alone who he himself is......but then talks about how he has a Picture of Eisenhower in his Office. So what he has a Pic of Eisenhower in his Office. He even admits the first 2 years into a Presidency that President is dealing with budgetary problems in those first two years. So Chuck Wagon.....got an answer as to what happen with you fessing up to who this Economy now falls on. Did he want to have a talk with Obama about that too?

A Middle East peace brought on by Obama????? "Say What"????? Is Chucky Cheese here delusional?

I don't have any problem with Hagel being a Moderate Republican who says he is Conservative. But could he please take his tongue out of Obama's azz!!!!!

When you're being nominated for a cabinet position by the President of the United States and you accept your charge, you would be a damned idiot to air many of your differences between the President and yourself. Should he had taken your advice, he would have embarrassed the administration, Hagel wouldn't likely be a supported candidate, and this would have accomplished what?

Yeah.....Obama had difficulties with Israel these last 2 years, so it's common sense to pick someone who also has some difficulties with Israel. That will help with negotiations and smoothing anything over and everything over. Someone that Israelis have a real High Respect for. Yep nothing like some good ole common sense....huh?

It would stop Obama on playing on the divisions within the GOP. Which can be only a good thing.

No, it wouldn't. It would bolster them. Hagel would only bring the issue once more to the forefront, make the Republicans look like those who cannot support bi-partisanship, and the White House would pick another moment to play on divisions in the future (it's what I would do if I were him). You can't expect for the White House to deal with Hagel's hypothetical rebuttal to the President by saying, "well, damn..I guess we can't try to alienate moderate Republicans from the rest of the Party to get some legislation through...or trash the Party for being extreme." Hagel doesn't get the last word on the next four years.

Hagel is a good choice. He was an infantrymen in Vietnam and he seems to understand the implication of sending people off to war.

The only reason that people are really opposing his nomination is because he failed their litmus test for unconditional support for Israel. Believe it or not, the U.S. isn't supposed to be Israel's puppet.
