BBC News - Fiscal cliff: US urged to tackle budget deficit

US politicians have been urged to do more to sort out the budget by the two largest credit rating agencies.

The warning comes despite the US narrowly agreeing a deal to stave off the US "fiscal cliff" of spending cuts and tax rises worth $600bn (£370bn).
Rating agency Moody's said lawmakers would need to take additional steps to lower the ballooning budget deficit.

[h=5]We just raised taxes but the deficit is still too big. Are we going to raise taxes again, do nothing, or cut spending?[/h]

Obama & Co. will try again to raise taxes (again exempting their supporters) but they will probably fail. Republicans will make noises about cutting spending, and will go nowhere. They will compromise by doing nothing and the country will continue its decline toward the status of Cuba or Venezuela.

I expect the next step will be Obama wanting to raise the corporate tax rates to 39% as well (not that it really matters because very few pay that rate) and the trust rate to the same (which will screw every trust in America because they cannot pack up and run overseas like corporations can); paired with more spending for the things they want and some token cuts to the things only the GOP want not to be cut, and a demand for a unlimited debt ceiling for the next 4 years.

we really do need to address spending, and while we're looking at entitlements, we also need to look at our military role on the world stage. we're spending more than most other nations combined, and it has to stop.

See now you were making a point right up until the part where you went into the paranoid universe of the right wing zealots who believe that the US is headed towards a marxist state....

It's just silly.

He gave meat puppets who pretend in front of a camera (Hollywood) tax breaks

I guess it really does pay to pump out radical Marxist Propaganda. Obama will cut your taxes if you make him look like Jesus to the brainwashed masses

We're already in a Marxist state. Gramsci's plan worked. Brainwash people through the Culture. Through Hollywood, Big Music, Academia, ect.

I have family who are administrators, teachers ect in the CA Public School System. All of them are proud open Marxists/Communists

They LOVE Obama and know exactly who he is.

Said the Greek 10 years before his economy collapsed by over-generous entitlements and having an unsustainably large public-sector work force. Certainly things our centrist president wishes to avoid...?

I like when conservatives compare the US to Greece. It makes it easy for me to not waste my time debating people that clearly have absolutely zero knowledge of the topic they are attempting to discuss. :)

Nah. I can just see a little farther into the future than you can.

I love it when someone pretends they know wtf they are talking about, toss out a few insults, and then leave the thread without making a single point of any substance

:2wave:

Let me guess, you contend the Euro Zone disaster is the result of insufficient stimulus spending by their respective governments, those otherwise exemplars of fiscal responsibility?

And that, if only government-spending-led economic growth were allowed by those evil budget-balancing Germans, the problem would just go away.

And, indeed, their economic model is much distinct from that of the American president?

Please, fill me in on why I have zero knowledges of the subject.

Well, you apparently don't understand what monetary policy is, for starters.

Pot calling the kettle black

You are wasting people's time with your buffoonery. If you're such an economic genius, enlighten us.

Not Marxist, but a trend towards destructive redistributive socialist policies sure.

Whats silly is the narraitive of higher taxes or even taxes on the rich being taken seriously.

Obama will continue to try and cut loop holes, go after investors and increase corporate tax rates as the American economy crash's down around him.

Eventually our credit will be down graded and interest rates and bond yields will climb.

And that will be it. No Mas from the once great American economy as we wont be able to be able to service our debt anymore.

So you tell me. Whats Obama trying to accomish here ?

No I think it's the past you're looking into.

Good old, cold war era paranoia.

Canada was a key part of NORAD. Guess you guys were stupid, huh?

What I was actually referring to was the paranoia of people thinking marxists and communists have "taken over" their government...

Obama is a Marxist/Socialist/Collectivist

He has been surrounded by them his whole life.

Frank Marshall Davis - radical marxist/communist (his childhood mentor)

Bill Ayers - Marxist/Communist Obama started his political career in his home. Worked with him on several projects in Chicago including the Annenberg Challenge

His parents were Marxists. Look it is what it what it is. These are all people closely associated with the Frankfurt School of Marxists. Obama has been surrounded by these people his entire life.

Alice Palmer - Political mentor to Obama - Marxist

Dr. Quentin Young - Close associate to Obama. Marxist/Communist

There are many more. I know people personally who are Communists. They teach your kids in school. They are openly proud to be Communists. These people OWN the Public School System. They have the keys to all the doors. They hold all the power. Their agenda is real. Somewhere along the way, because of Political Correctness apparently, it's "not cool" to point out that people are Marxists/Communists or something. Like it's not a real ideology that people believe in, or somehow it doesn't exist. Sorry, you are mistaken. Maybe you want to keep your head stuck in the sand. Frankly, that's not my problem, but don't think you can call people silly while you wallow in your ignorance.

You can characterize it any way you want to. Doesn't really matter at all. I'll go ahead and keep calling a spade a spade.

Oh, I was told credit agencies don't care about debt. Silly me.

Must've heard it from a conservative.

"Reagan proved that deficits don't matter" -- Dick Cheney

The hilarity of calling Dick Cheney a conservative aside, it was actually from one Hauchbaum and Galvin of this very forum. I don't know Hauchbaum's affiliation but Galvin was listed as "very liberal."
