Al-Jazeera buys Current TV from Al Gore.....[W:187,319]

I didn't 'deal' with him at AJ. I commissioned him to make programmes for me when I was running a BBC documentary channel. He later went to AJ. He's no longer there, he's back at the BBC. His name is Paul Gibbs. Google him.

so you lied... got it...

so you lied... got it...

I never claimed to have dealth with him at AJ. I said:
When I had dealings with AJ, about 8 or so years ago, their Head of Documentaries was Jewish, recruited from Discovery Channel iirc.
I said I had dealings with AJ, and he was the HofDocs at the time. I was dealing with the features department, not his department. He and I had worked together previously. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

in afghanistan we had both al jazeera english and arabic, and both were the most unbiased, truthful i had ever seen in mainstreammedia.

ithink aj is under attack because they tend to filter nothing, from beheadings,to govt corruption,to internation conflicts no other msm will cover but insteadshow a story about a mass shooting ora pregnant women goingmissing or other forms of sensationalism over journalism.

to topit off,al jazeera in arabic with subtitles covered more european news and american news than european and american msm.most stories of importance willnever see msm.

No, Al J is under attack because of Bush and Rumsfeldt. They could not control the station during the Iraq occupation and in Afghanistan (like the rest of the worlds media). Al Jazeera stood for quite a few embarrassing stories for the US military occupation forces and in return Rumsfeldt started targeting the station with verbal, legal and military attacks. It thankfully did not shut them up one bit and they continue to expose the parts of the US military occupation forces that were corrupt and did bad things. They also had the nerve to give a voice to the insurgence forces (mostly non Al Q) which pissed off the US even more.

Before Iraq, Al Jazeera was actually a favorite of the US administration and was openly backed as a force of change in the middle east. That of course changed when the US starting invading and Al Jazeera started asking the hard questions.

Really, i always thought AJ arabic was under the same management.

Same owner, not management. There are some crossovers with some journalists. And in fact many of the journalists on Al Jazeera in Arabic come from liberal Arab countries.. Egypt, Lebanon and even Syria. They are not brain dead radical muslims from Iranian's and Saudi's .. which is what most American's think.

egypt is definitely not a liberal country. Also, I've been reading and watching AJ for a little over 5 years, so I am aware it isn't some radical news outlet.

"Views of harsh punishments also vary across the Muslim publics polled. Majorities of Muslims in Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan and Nigeria say they would favor making harsh punishments such as stoning people who commit adultery; whippings and cutting off of hands for crimes like theft and robbery; and the death penalty for those who leave the Muslim religion the law in their country. In the other predominantly Muslim countries surveyed – Turkey, Lebanon and Indonesia – most Muslims oppose these measures.

About eight-in-ten Muslims in Egypt and Pakistan (82% each) endorse the stoning of people who commit adultery; 70% of Muslims in Jordan and 56% of Nigerian Muslims share this view. Muslims in Pakistan and Egypt are also the most supportive of whippings and cutting off of hands for crimes like theft and robbery; 82% in Pakistan and 77% in Egypt favor making this type of punishment the law in their countries, as do 65% of Muslims in Nigeria and 58% in Jordan.

When asked about the death penalty for those who leave the Muslim religion, at least three-quarters of Muslims in Jordan (86%), Egypt (84%) and Pakistan (76%) say they would favor making it the law; in Nigeria, 51% of Muslims favor and 46% oppose it. In contrast, Muslims in Lebanon, Turkey and Indonesia largely reject the notion that harsh punishments should be the law in their countries. About three-quarters of Turkish and Lebanese Muslims oppose the stoning of people who commit adultery (77% and 76%, respectively), as does a narrower majority (55%) of Muslims in Indonesia."

 Al Gore taking oil money isn't even the best part.

Oh, what is the best part?

They rushed the deal so that it wouldn't get hit with higher tax rates. :lamo

I thought that didn't happen, and he ended up paying the higher rate.

And you are brainwashed it seems.

My post is very factual. Maybe you dont remember the famous Rumsfeldt attacks on Al Jazeera for showing civilian deaths by US troops during the Iraq invasion and occupation? Oh wait.. that might not have been shown on your favorite propaganda channel.. Fox News.

No, but it's Friday. Fish-frying day. Go sizzle!

Some of those deaths were probably slaughters by government forces (and let's not pretend they never did that) orchestrated and physically arranged for the purpose of propaganda. Of course, the idea that Saddam and AlJ might not be legit has never crossed your mind? This, of course, is aside from the basic nature of such "journalism", as the obvious purpose is not to report the news but to emotionally sway the public and encourage terrorists.

You thought those images of the "truth" were very important, didn't you?

This would be a channel for the low information types to worship.

Disagree with someone politically = hope they die soon.

Nice ethics there.

When people with such a notion get power, watch out.

Travis struggles with words of more than 4 letters. Don't hate on him for not understanding that 6-letter word.

I'm not a Chavez fan. And I'm not a Burlesconi fan either. I don't want them "die soon" however.
