60,000 patients put on death pathway without being told but minister still says controversial end-of-life plan is 'fantastic' | Mail Online

Up to 60,000 patients die on the Liverpool Care Pathway each year without giving their consent, shocking figures revealed yesterday.
A third of families are also kept in the dark when doctors withdraw lifesaving treatment from loved ones.

The "care pathway" is where they sedate patients and then withdraw life sustaining care, basically killing them off.

Put the government in charge of health care and then see what happens when the government gets short of money.

The BHS basically pays a bounty for every patient finished off this way. 130,000 patients are killed this way yearly, apparently almost half of them without consent.

The British Health Minister calls the pathway "a great step forward."

It is a great step forward, in my opinion. When someone has a terminal disease and is in the last stages, it is absolutely foolish to keep spending tens of thousands -- hundreds of thousands -- prolonging the inevitable. It is horribly difficult on the person as well as on their families. There is only one reason for doctors to treat clearly-terminal illnesses: they make more money keeping you interminably alive than by letting you die a peaceful death.

As for paying them a bounty. That's just pejorative bull****.

They were treated like dogs waiting to be put down, says son of death pathway couple | Mail Online

That's not their decision to make, these people aren't dogs. That's the patient's and the family's decision to make. You really want a doctor to diagnose you as terminal, then put a pillow over your head? Or would you like to maybe get a second opinion or choose how you want to spend your last days?

"A great step forward"? Good grief Maggy what a way to start the new year. Letting people die without their consent is murder!

I read that article. If it is true, they're killing off people who aren't necessarily terminal, just very old... and in some cases letting them starve to death apparently. Horrible.

There's a difference between giving a dying person enough morphine to shorten his final suffering, and letting someone starve needlessly or killing off a man just because he is 90.

Its the Daily Mail..... hardly the best source for credible information.. especially when it comes to the NHS.

Isn't it great..you work all your life..and when you become a burden..you get topped!!

It is exceedingly difficult for family to make that decision. Most families? They can't do it. Actually? Loving pet owners are sometimes kinder to their dogs than they are to their mothers.

This is the end of life planning the Obamacare had, before they got caught and were forced to remove it.

So you want any random doctor to be able to sentence you to death without telling you? Do you know how many people have fought a terminal diagnosis and lived on?

Yep, children do that with their aged parents every day here in the United States. "Here. You take her. She's too much a burden on our family. But you'd better treat her better than we did."

These families were free to take their loved one(s) out of the hospital at any time. Why didn't they? They could have fed them and given them water. Why didn't they? The one guy says he watched his mother die over 33 hours. Hello? Why didn't he take her home and make sure she got food and water on her own then? Why didn't he feed her and give her water at the hospital? These sensational stories make me ill.

A glaring omission from these Mail articles is exactly why the medical care facilities decided to put these seniors on the pathway. If the patients gave their consent, need the family be consulted, especially if the dying person does not ask for them?

These are ****ty, alarmist articles that do no service to understanding what the pathway is and how it can allow people ease from suffering without the moral problem of euthanasia.

I agree Maggie...when I was a child it would have been totally shameless to put your mother or father into an ante-chamber of death anyway..

Don't they lie and put a spin on everything?

Yes..according to other newspapers..etc..

But if they were lying..wouldn't they have been fined and/or closed down by now..

I cannot remember them ever have being sued...

Freedom of the press. They are the Fox News of the newspaper world except they don't even try to hide they have a huge bias.

Quality over quantity. I did clinicals this last semester in a nursing home. I promised my mom she would never set foot in such a place afterwards. These people are sitting in their waste and some with feeding tubes because families don't have the guts to end needless suffering, and because it isn't socially acceptable. THAT is tragic. And what's more: many of these families don't even bother visiting their "loved ones" because they're too busy or perhaps it makes them feel uncomfortable. It's truly pathetic that human beings are allowed to live like that. No dignity, self respect, or hope.

Read the article.

This reminds me of the good old Terri Schiavo case. Supporting life confined to being braindead in a bed or picking your nose in a cell is effort wasted. There's no reason to stall them from reaching the gates of heaven or hell if they can't change their destination.

But having said that I think that euthanasia has been practised for decades..

My Aunt who was a nurse in the 50's told me that severely handicapped new born babies were often left in a side ward..Nil by mouth..

My Grandmother..who was suffering with an aggressive cancer..was in the front room in a bed..the doctor arrived..told us all to say goodbye..even though my grandmother was sitting up and lucid..

30 mins later..she was dead..

LOL You must think Elvis is on the moon then. Tabloids lie all the time and no one sues them.

I'll believe it when someone other than the British equivalent of the National Enquirer reports on it.
