Retired Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf dies

WASHINGTON (AP) — Retired Gen. H. Norman Schwarzkopf, who topped an illustrious military career by commanding the U.S.-led international coalition that drove Saddam Hussein's forces out of Kuwait in 1991 but kept a low public profile in controversies over the second Gulf War against Iraq, died Thursday. He was 78.
Schwarzkopf died in Tampa, Fla., where he had lived in retirement, according to a U.S. official, who was not authorized to release the information publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity.

Nothing much I can add, I liked him.

Another decent fellow. May he rest in peace and may God be with his family.

Rest in Peace, General.

A teddy bear who was also a warrior elite. Before the computer age, Stormin' Norman introduced many of us to the beginning of the high-tech age. A clip that all of us who saw it will never forget. "The luckiest man in Iraq".

Thank you General Schwarzkopf. One of a kind you were.

Never heard of him before today.
But RIP

Either you're being disingenuous or you are inexcusably ignorant of recent American history.

I fear we will lose George H.W., his commander in chief, soon as well.

Let me add a bit to Norman's pedigree. His Father was also a General in the Army. At least two star. But more to history. His Dad has also been head of the New Jersey State Police, and headed up the invesitgation into the kidnapping and murder of the Lindbergh baby. He's a Jersey boy, and I lived not far from where Norman grew up.

He kicked Saddam's ass on the cheap, at the direction of the Elder Bush. A technique unfortunately not learned by the Junior Bush <sigh>

Sorry dont know many generals.

He was pretty well known for the success of the operation.
Happened in the 90's, decent guy he was, considering other people in the public eye.

On par with Colin Powell, in terms of manner and respect.

I'll give you a pass, you're likely a good deal younger than many here, including me. :)

If we do, we can bury them both in the same pit and save taxpayers some money. Extra graves cost $$.

True, they're both insignificant blips.

Rest in Peace, General. You will be remembered.

This clearly identifies you as someone who should be shunned.

Libertarians like me believe in saving taxpayer $$.

If bush and his camouflaged neocon-inteventionist sidekicks want graves, they must pay for it themselves, or else accept a common pit* .

(* - no more than 4 ft. of depth should be covered by taxpayers. Further digging must be paid for by the families of the deceased)

May General Schwarzkopf rest in peace. IMO, he was probably the nation's finest post-WW II general and ranks among the all-time greats.

A great man, a great soldier, and a great American.
