North Korea confirms arrest of US citizen

No, actually no they're not more honest than a circus.

Remember North Koreans believe Kim Jong Il is basically "Jesus" and his father, Kim Il-Sung is basically God. Remember North Koreans believe Kim Jong-Il invented the hamburger and could regularly shoot a perfect round of golf, among other insane accusations the typical North Korean is fed by the government owned media.

North Korea is the definition of a cult of personality... You do as you're told and believe what the state tells you and if you don't then you and your family will be murdered or locked in anyone of their numerous prison camps.

There is a reason why there is a DMZ littered with land mines - and it's not to keep people out - it's to keep people in. People are forced to live in North Korea - they don't choose to live in North Korea.

North Koreans are brainwashed to believe that they are the pinnacle of the world and the most advanced nation on earth - while every other nation is starving and wants North Koreas resources....

Of course when you visit (which is nearly impossible) you have to pretend you believe all of it despite the fact it is all a bunch of BS.

look, you took that way to seriously. I am really surprised i actually have to explain this to someone but you need to take a step back. Really, you took that seriously and OMG was that wrong.

actually, I have a problem with your need to define an interest in traveling to NK with support for the regime and it's policy.

See: http://www.debatepolitics.com/break...firms-arrest-us-citizen-3.html#post1061290720

Also, I am unsure how you could come to the conclusion I am trying to protect NK's image when I have already called it a totalitarianism **** hole.

Yet, your activity in this thread clearly shows you do care, and based on some rather bizarre assumptions that have no basis in reality

No~!!! And all this time I was planning to snort meth from the dear leaders cleavage. Yes, we all know that, and such was even stressed every time someone noted an interest in traveling there. Which is why your accusations of such amounting to support for the regime seem so freaking bizarre and divorced from anything called reality

I find this truly shocking ...

I don't believe it ...

What's your problem man.

We're on the same page yet you're attacking me?

Are you really this bored?

If it really matters to you, I find totalitarian/authoritarian dictators fascinating and evil - Kim Il-Sung, Kim Jong-Il, Pol Pot, Stalin, Ho Che Minh, Hitler, Castro, (I could go on forever here with the names)...

I don't care where people go, nor do I understand how (or why) you have a negative opinion on my position especially when we both agree that North Korea is a totalitarian ****hole cult of personality that's Disneyland for those who are interested in socioeconomic philosophy and/or anthropology.

We're on the same page yet you're attacking me?

lol, you just accused me of taking issue with the "facts" on NK and you're accusing other people of supporting the regime for denoting an interest to travel there.

look, you took that way to seriously. I am really surprised i actually have to explain this to someone but you need to take a step back. Really, you took that seriously and OMG was that wrong.

so the whole thing about dwarvish, nationalist unicorns was a lie?

so the whole thing about dwarvish, nationalist unicorns was a lie?

i hope not because then there would not be any unicorns. They are just keeping all the unicorns to themselves and need to be invaded so we can free the unicorns. We could have Mattel sponsor the invasion and when we find the unicorns we can paint them pastel colors and draw pictures on their butts.

And in your vast experience, how long did you spend there?

Do I really need to go to China to believe the opinions of people who I trust and love who have lived there?

All I was implying was that they're pretty authoritarian when it comes to their own but they give "guests" a pass on minor infractions (that wouldn't even be illegal in the US).

In short they're not going to give a US citizen an infraction for spitting on the sidewalk and they wont "jail" a US citizen for minor "cultural crimes" that would get a Chinese citizen locked up.

The Chinese want our business, and the last thing they want to do is screw with people there who are on business or even US citizens in general.

lol, you just accused me of taking issue with the "facts" on NK and you're accusing other people of supporting the regime for denoting an interest to travel there.

I've never once even asserted anyone here supported the regime.

I just don't know why anyone would want to go to North Korea when they're not going to get anything but a propaganda tour.

Why go and waste all the money to attempt entry when even if you're allowed to do so you will continually be lied to.

It would be like buying a ticket to a real life 1984...

I've never once even asserted anyone here supported the regime.

indeed you did, and I even quoted one such post above

I just don't know why anyone would want to go to North Korea when they're not going to get anything but a propaganda tour.

the same reason someone would still want to go to soviet Russia under the same conditions. Because it would still likely be an interesting and bizarre experience you're unlikely to ever repeat.

You mean Disneyland (not a circus) - that was what Kim Jong-Il was obsessed with - Disney movies.

That is if you were trying to pun Kim Jong-Il in your original post.

On a side note,

Kim Jong-Il actually abducted (seriously) a South Korean film star and director and forced her and him to make a "Godzilla" propaganda film.

No, I never asserted that anyone supported DPNK..

Russia today is normal and is hardly a totalitarian country, anyone can go to Russia.

I understand your point and I agree with it -- yes it would be amusing to travel (anywhere), however I don't see the point if you don't get the entire experience because you're entirely restricted. They won't restrict you in Russia.

I suppose it would be interesting to visit the old USSR when Stalin was dictator during WWII.

WOW dude. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't get him to go into your unicorn hole.

lol, you got to be kidding: I didn't claim modern russia was a closed society, I clearly wrote "Soviet Russia". Also, the majority of your disagreements here are so freaking bizarre and seem to require a complete lack of basic comprehension skills

are you trolling us?

actually, in NK, the access and travel to many places, like unicorn holes, is heavily regulated.

Dude...

The lack of logic here is astounding.

Why would someone want to go to a country when they damn well know that what they're experiencing is a lie?

Do you comprehend that?

There is nothing bizarre about my question or as you put it "disagreements" - it's a perfectly logical question to ask.

Yes, I know Soviet Russia...

Are you trolling me? because you're the one making a big deal out of absolutely nothing. I want to talk about North Korea and you're getting bent that I state facts...

You're trolling me...

Dude...

The lack of logic here is astounding.

Why would someone want to go to a country when they damn well know that what they're experiencing is a lie?

1) how would a disagreement on the desirability to visit NK denote a "lack of logic"?

2) because it would still be a rather unique and bizarre experience. And while they would present you with a pretty manufactured image of the people and state, you will still be able to draw your own inferences about the society

Because you're the one making a big deal out of absolutely nothing. I want to talk about North Korea and you're getting bent that I state facts...

Didn't I just address this?

You're doing it again...

Go eat a hot dog - call it a Polish sausage and call it an authentic Polish meal just for giggles, because that is about what a visit to North Korea would be.. How logical is that, pretending a hot dog is a Polish?

for the above analogy to be correct, I would have needed to assert that the experience of a NK tourist wasn't heavily controlled. I have done nothing but the opposite: no one described the hotdog as anything but a hotdog

I did - I said the hot dog was a Polish sausage.

I'm not sure how that makes sense or addresses MY argument
