4 dead in Blair Co. shooting; 3 troopers injured

As much as I hate to say it, we've had it too easy, for too long. People don't understand how to live and survive anymore in tough times, and imo, it's to our detriment generally.

Yep. It is why I grow a big garden. I consider it training for if and when I have to in order to survive.

This happened 5 minutes from where I live and work. It's pretty crazy, I've said my piece on my opinion on gun control, but to have this happen literally a few minutes from where I was born and raised and reside is unreal. This is an area where things like this just don't happen.

Not according to the gunnies. This person in thier view was a loon and the area is probably infested with them. We need guns in barbershops.

I however tend to see it your way

Sir: to be frank with you, there will be times that a person that's packing (so to speak.) may be able to make a difference, but most of the time it would be better off if that person stay out of it because that person may harm others in the process. I don't care how much training one gets on the shooting range; it doesn't prepare them for the emotional impact of that very moment when the shooting starts. If you do not believe me try going to ranges where they simulate that sort of thing where you have silhouettes of good guys and bad guys popping out in front of you; and to intensify that situation the instructor will give you a limited amount of time to get through the course. I think that you will find out just how many good guys you will hit in the end.

I agree with this completely the current system has no way to detect these type people and won't until someone gets a clue as to human behavior in stress situations. Of course that will take time and so the NRA and gunnies will oppose it even if it will save lives./

See this is to me as unreasonable as the anti-gun side.

The idea that the answer to gun violence in the United States is more and more guns in the hands of more and more people.
How can it make things worse?

If we were all packin', this sort of thing wouldn't happen as much.

There will always be bad people in the world. The only thing that will change will be the ability of decent people to protect themselves.

Great idea. Now every drunken bar fight can escalate into a massive shootout in a crowded area.

No we need to ban cars and trucks or roads because taking things away from people who do nothing wrong makes the most sense

Maybe when a baby is born we should just amputate the trigger finger. Hell, maybe we should just amputate the entire hand because it is about as logical as banning guns.

Think about all the creative ways one could die from a hand. The simple fact we can grip is dangerous enough, not to mention our big brains that allow us to concoct ideas.

Compared to school shootings and highway ambushes, how many times do bar brawls escalate into a, "massive shootout in a crowded area"?

I don't recall too many of those threads.

Or, is this another, "meteor in your living room", argument?

Install guns on cars, guns on buildings, guns on trees with cameras.. Then put guns on the guns so that the guns can protect themselves from other guns.. Then, you need to have guns pointed at those guns to protect themselves from themselves and other guns guns.

Haha greatest quote ever. Love it.

This thread isnt ABOUT 20 innocent children...it is about a rather common daily occurrence that gets absolutely ZERO attention. Perhaps because its uncomfortable...frequently involves handguns and not 'assault weapons' and of course..often involves minorities, gangs, etc. Cant discuss the problems there.

Add up all of your 'mass shooting' victims...how do you think that compares to your average 'day in the life' of many inner city communities?

It's gets plenty of attention. It's a classic argument that no one ever talks about the black on black violence or intercity violence in general. My guess is ethnocentrism. If you watch Fox News, you won't hear much about it. You would need to watch local media and it even comes up plenty in pop culture:

No one is ignoring that type of violence. You just aren't hearing the discussions.

That's because most people in bars aren't carrying.

Actually, all you have to do is observe this site. People have even made excuses over why it is ignored. Or maybe we are getting different screen sets and yours is littered with threads about day to day violence. You should link to some of those. Shouldn't be hard, seeing as how so many people...you know...'care'.

More people in bars are carrying than a school house. How do bar room massacres compare to schoolhouse massacres?

That's apples and oranges. There hasn't been a bar room massacre because no one has cared to go do it. Are you trying to say that it hasn't happened because of some fear that a random redneck might be packing?

Local violence in general doesn't make mass media. It's all over the local media and it's heavily talked about in pop culture. The discussion of urban violence is not new or hidden, you just aren't looking in the right place or your mind is trained to look for conspiracy from listening to too much Fox News and Limbaugh.

Hey, maybe now that Christmas is over Fox can quit focusing on the "War on Christmas" and you can talk them into spotlighting local violence.

Yeah they own me because I laugh at the idiots that watch it. It's funny.

Go back to your war on Christmas, brah. Can't think of real arguments for real issues, so better to make up their own. ;)

And yet its only people like yourself that CONTINUOSLY default to FOXNEW NOX NEWS OHMIGAWD FOX NEWS!!! :lamo

As if they were somehow a part of this discussion before you felt the need to run hide there.

What else am I supposed to say to a group of people who think only black people cause riots and that there is such thing as an ObamaPhone? You can't argue with people who have their head up their ass and Fox News makes that happen.

The only thing you can do is point it out and laugh, and that's what I am doing. I'm sorry if my pointing out that your number one source of news is a piece of garbage offends you.

Of COURE I am pointing and laughing at you. Your comments are ridiculous and you are laughable. Your response to the fact that day to day violence is completely ignored here is "FOX NEWS FOX NEWS OHMIGAWD FOX NEWS!!!" Dood...that you cant see how laughable you are is...well..kinda laughable too.

What are you talking about? My response is that it is reported. It's reported nationwide... locally. Where people give a ****. And of course there will be the occasional 60 minutes or special, but it would be kind of hard for national news programs to cover every local murder.

The murders themselves are discussed locally. The problem itself is talked about nationally. It can be seen widely in pop culture. So again, if you aren't hearing about it, the problem is with you and the terrible choice of news/media that you watch.

It it is outlawed and you refuse to give them up then it would be treated the same as any other criminal action would be treated.

yeah great idea-50 million well armed newly created criminals

In 1990 or so Cincinnati required anyone who owned an "assault weapon" to register it. less than 100 were registered. At that time I had access to the 4473 files of two major gun dealers both within 15-20 minutes of the city limits (there were almost no gun stores in the city proper due to a waiting period that had been passed earlier which killed the stores-only one storefront dealer remained and it was the local cop shop)

I knew for a fact that at least 1000 people had "assault weapons" based on the sales of those two stores And That only included 2 of the 6 biggest gun shops within a 15 minute drive of the city. One expert figured there were well over 10,000 weapons that met the AW definition of the code. so compliance with the registration law was about 1 percent

My point...people here continuously ignore the day to day violence and only focus on glitter deaths that they can exploit (you have had a few times at bat...maybe NOW you can show me all that concern expressed here about the day to day violence? Nah...I didn't think so) and your response was to blame the fact that people here and politicians and ALL of the anti-gun set ignores day to day violence was to invoke Fox News. Laughable. 50 threads about the school shooting. 40 threads about the Colorado theater shootings. A years worth of threads on Trayvon Martin. Day to day gun violence, 500 dead in Chicago this year alone, 3000 dead by black on black crime...nary a one. Crickets.

did not the anti gun hysterics claim that if we allowed people to carry weapons concealed every fender bender would result in shootouts

it was an idiotic prediction then, just as yours is now. ITS Illegal to be drinking and have a gun on you

thus we have a law to prevent what scares you

There will always be bad people in the world. The only thing that will change will be the ability of decent people to protect themselves.

those who crave a nanny state government don't want us to be able to defend ourselves, they want us to cower and hope big brother will protect us

those who are afraid to protect themselves are annoyed and their timidity accentuated when we say NO to BIG BROTHER and affirm that our personal safety is an individual's duty and responsibility
