If things are so much better, why are we looking at gun control? Why are people popping their corks and going off the deep end. Just because people are being pacified with a government check, it doesn't mean things are better. It means they are pacified.

If you believe some of the people on this site, then yes...assault weapons are killing people every day as the gun of choice in gangs all across the country. But thats not what I said. THIS TYPE of incident...3 people dead, 4 people dead, 2 people dead, 5 people dead...yes....it happens EVERY DAY. For example...the day AFTER the school shooting 3 were shot at a hospital in Alabama, 5 people were killed in San Diego. On the 10th of December, 5 were killed on Tule River Indian Reservation, 7 were recently gun downed by a woman in Detroit, 4 more in California on the 2nd...etc.

This happens every day. Every day young black men die in gang related violence. What is the response? Crickets. As tragic as the 'mass shootings' are we are talking a handful compared to the number that are killed by people every day.

True. But saying this is an over reaction isn't accurate IMO. So many people die in car crashes every day it's rather crazy but when a plane goes down and takes a bulk amount of folks with it, it turns heads more. Or a car pile up killing 20 will turn more heads than a car crash that killed 2.

This thread isnt ABOUT 20 innocent children...it is about a rather common daily occurrence that gets absolutely ZERO attention. Perhaps because its uncomfortable...frequently involves handguns and not 'assault weapons' and of course..often involves minorities, gangs, etc. Cant discuss the problems there.

Add up all of your 'mass shooting' victims...how do you think that compares to your average 'day in the life' of many inner city communities?

No it wasn't, but I was responding to your assertion about all the shootings in the ghetto not being worth mentioning. Shootings in the ghetto was not what this thead was about either. Just thought I would respond with something that puts everything back in perspective. So what did I do? I responded with something not about this thread to something you already brought up that was not about this thread either. Sorry, but I'm not going to let you have it both ways here. You want to go outside the scope of this thread? Fine. I'll do the same. Thank you.

My point was pretty direct. This stuff happens EVERY DAY. Nary a word. I didnt rush to equate it to the children shot in Connecticut...y'all did. My point was relevant to the scope of the thread.

Sort of like a years worth of threads and posts about Trayvon Martin...and silence about the 8 people that on average die every day due to black on black violence.

Oh...hey...another comparison...sort of like feeling the need to start the occasional thread on instances or random acts of white folks committing racist type acts while ignoring every other group out there.

Exactly my point. There was no logic or common sense to anything suggested by the NRA today, and this tragic even proves it.
 
This happened 5 minutes from where I live and work. It's pretty crazy, I've said my piece on my opinion on gun control, but to have this happen literally a few minutes from where I was born and raised and reside is unreal. This is an area where things like this just don't happen.

Yes, and many of these shootings are not directed at the average person. They are gang related and are targeted shootings. Which leaves most of the regular populace out of danger unless you happen to get caught in the crossfire. However, these gangs and the criminals that comprise these gangs get these weapons from legal owners who sell them to them.

Correct, it's not. But HIS reference at least had to do with his point in relation to the topic of this thread. Namely, that suddenly when it's politically beneficial to talk about gun deaths due to the recent large shooting incident, we see posters jumping to post threads like this and news stories getting attention covering stuff like this. Where as 3 weeks ago, three people getting shot in a shootout with cops wouldn't likely have gotten posted here because it wasn't a hot button political topic at the time so nothing could be gained in scoring political points by posting it. THAT was his point I believe.

do you have proof of that, many gangs have fully automatic weapons. those don't come from legal owners. they come from international black markets and from our own military and police arsenals

Not mocking you but I literally hear this almost every single time this happens. I guess because when it happens where unexpected it's what makes the news. As Vancemack says this happens all the time... I guess it's just not so newsworthy when it happens in expected places.

mainly governments or governmental operators. example, a guy I went to college with is a wealthy "broker" of "commodities" in Dubai. He noted he had 16,000 brand new (circa 1972) M16 rifles for sale when we ran into each other in NY about 28 years ago. He had bought them from the Communist government in Vietnam and was looking for buyers. its stuff we left over there and the NVA captured. He also had stuff from other similar sources.

let me tell you how it works

weapons are reported lost or destroyed all the time by soldiers. a Government Inspector I know was tasked with doing inventory on an army arsenal. He decided to make his inspection 2 weeks earlier than reported, this was a base overseas. He found 35 M16A2 rifles and several SAWs in perfect working order but they had been listed as

a) lost in combat
b) destroyed in war games
c) demilled (destroyed) by an armorer due to reaching maximum service life

in other words, people had made these guns "disappear" on paper so someone could steal them and no one would find them missing

Thanks for emphasizing my point. Its just gang violence so...its not like their victims are 'real' people...even the kids and innocent bystanders.
 
Maybe a law should be passedi making roadside ambushes illegal?

Yes, so we need to ban weapons and put tons of manpower into controlling the import of illegal weapons.

If your track record on enforcement is anything like the track record regard gangs, thugs, and violent criminals, you will excuse it, ignore it, or blame the problems on someone else.

This does not meet the definition of a mass killing:

"The victims were shot at separate locations, and investigators said they are processing five different crime scenes."

The victims had the right to self defense. Perhaps they were not armed.
