Two Gunmen at Newtown, Conn., Elementary School Shooting, One Dead [W:449/490/584]

Well, as the father of a child who went through a tough adolescent, early adulthood, the ending of your article where the police talks of creating a paper trail is false. I know first hand.

Actually, that was the social worker, and I'd seriously question the advisability of getting the police involved, even without having had such an experience.

The writer questions that idea, too, further down in the article.

Yes, with a little effort, and research, a parent can move to the help the child needs.

Quiet and Submissive? Wow, that is definitely two things I don't want in a child. Obedient to rules, yes, submissive, no way. And quiet is usually a condition in children brought on by social isolation and an inability to show/control emotions. Both very bad things, unless you are trying to create sociopaths and psychopaths. Quiet when appropriate, that is learning social discipline, quiet all the time, bad, bad, bad.

Another term for discipline or obedient to rules is "submission to authority", pure and simple. Part of the social conditioning process is to learn to submit to authority.

Yes, of course that can be overdone, but the fact remains that submission to authority is a primary goal of our education and conditioning process.

As for being quiet, some personalities are just that way. What were the old 'humours' they talked about way back--sanguine, phlegmatic, and a few others. Some people don't talk much.
