Two Gunmen at Newtown, Conn., Elementary School Shooting, One Dead [W:449/490/584]

Reports of the second gunman are unconfirmed at this point. The nightmare may be over. What a tragedy, though. Imagine taking a gun and shooting up a Kindergarten class, what a monster.

I have not heard a # of wounded yet. It could get worse still.

Those damned anti's will be all over this now, huh?

Yeah, let's not focus on the tragedy of several young children dying and instead make a statement about the impending gun control nonsense.

Sincerely hoping the injured/dead don't consist of students. Makes me nervous that a group of kids is unaccounted for. What kind of evil propels somebody to shoot up an ELEMENTARY school?

I'm getting sick of this ****. These kinds of shootings are becoming too regular. I don't know who, but who ever has the job of examining patterns in the shooters needs to get working and find a way to help stop this. And I don't want to hear any BS about "well, some people are bad and you can't stop them." That argument is almost as bad as "God did it."

If there was ever an argument for public square death sentence this is it. Tie them to a tree and let the residents have at it.

I'm serious.

Tim-

God dammit, not another one.

When will it end?

I actually have a keen interesting in criminal psychological profiling and have a (very, very minute) level of knowledge on the topic. What I read most often is that family and friends will almost always acknowledge warning signs in the shooter, but don't report them because "they never thought they'd do something like this".

I don't know how to remedy that. I really, really wish somebody did, though.

an elementary school? this is just unfathomably awful.

There are reports that the suspected 2nd gunman is in custody and a police press conference will occur shortly.

I can't imagine anyone doing something like this in an elementary school. It just seems unreal to me. These are innocent little kids who didn't do anything to anyone. It makes me want to have my kid home-schooled, to be honest.

You're simply not going to stop people from going on rampages with some sort of weapon, be it a flamethrower, golf club, firearm, front end loader, pipe, chainsaw, axe, etc. There will always be a way...and now, the weather forecast for tomorrow in your area

Can I just say that everybody who helped secure the children and staff and prevent even more tragedies deserve a damned ticker tape parade when this is all over? And whoever killed the first gunman (assuming self defense and not "friendly fire") should be honored (even if posthumously).

Newtown certainly seems like an upscale area:

1:17 p.m: One shooter is described as 24-years-old, armed with four weapons and wearing a bullet-proof vest, sources tell abc news.

....wow.

if they thought a second gunman was on the loose, making those kids walk in a single file line across the parking lot like in the pic is stupid, or hoarding them into a corner of a room like one article said......you just put multiple targets in a small area

A while back someone did it at an Amish grade school. Bad people do bad things and quite often they head for the easy targets...probably because they're too much of a ***** to go after a target that might be able to defend itself. I mean, seriously, how often do you hear about a police station getting shot up?

That makes sense. Whenever I follow stories like this, they often follow the same pattern. At first, the people interviewed say, "I never thought he would do this; he was so nice/normal." Then, a few days later, all the skeletons in the closest come out with all the warning signs.

Interestingly enough, I understand why people don't report those signs. There was a kid in college who had a mental breakdown and a few months later threatened to kill (mostly) everyone in our dorm. None of us who heard him say it reported it to anyone. We just tried to calm him down and then we ended leaving him alone to sleep it off. He never did anything, but I regret not doing more now that I'm older. It was just an awkward situation where someone who's upset just says something out of frustration and it's easy to brush off. Moreover, even if you do think it could be serious, you don't want to report him and then have that attention set him off. Ultimately, in order to get people to speak up, somebody has to change significant aspects of our culture.

Don't you think this particular event sets a new precedent, though, considering that it was done in a ****ing elementary school? Also, can we at least wait to discuss the anti and pro gun bull**** until all victims are accounted for?

I just don't buy that. Violence is the effect of many causes. We need to find those causes and decrease or eliminate them.
