Intern on Menendez's staff was undocumented alien and sex offender

Re: Congratulations Senator Menendez

Well, from reading the article it's obvious that nobody could have possibly known that this guy was here illegally, or a sex offender which kind of begs the question.....was the Senator even trying!!?

Re: Congratulations Senator Menendez

All Democrats hire illegal aliens and sex offenders to staff their offices. Moreover, generalizations are valid logical arguments, despite what your high school debate coach may have said.

Is using E-verify or a simple background check is asking too much? I realize that this is an unpaid, volunteer position but, surely, working inside the office of a U.S. congressman should require at least some minimal scrutiny/security procedures. You hardly ever find what you are not even looking for.

The rest of us live under different rules.

Our politicians are god-like beings who are above the law and incapable of error.

Didn't they tell you that in programming school?:)

Not all of them, only those on the left. Do you not remember the fit that the press (and demorats) threw about Romney not properly vetting the citizenship of the employees assigned to his place by his lawn maintanence contractor?

Re: Congratulations Senator Menendez

Because interns have an effect on policy.

In what bizarro universe is this important?

Re: Congratulations Senator Menendez

Are you saying that the right are ethical and the left dishonest? That's unlikely - politicians are politicians. If you're from the right, you can only see the bad behavior of the left and vice-versa. Stand back from all of it and you'll see 100% scumbaggery all around.

I am not saying that at all. I am saying that the press is much more apt to persue the "faults", real or perceived, of those on the right.

Re: Congratulations Senator Menendez

I would naturally assume that the media that supports the left would ignore the left and pursue publicity of the misdeeds of the right.

It's really unfortunate that our media is partisan, just like our SCOTUS. This rabid partisanship means tat the population is constantly misguided and that the matters that are important and should be cooperative are overlooked.

I can't even imagine a solution for this. Has it always been like this? Or were we more cohesive as a nation in the past? I should remember these things but like so much else in life, I didn't know that I should remember this.

Seems it wouldn't've helped as the guy is a minor.

AP Exclusive: Gov’t arrests illegal immigrant, registered sex offender working for US senator - The Washington Post

“We certainly wouldn’t have known through any background checks since he is a minor about any sex offender status,” Menendez said in an interview Wednesday with MSNBC. “Once it came to our attention, our New Jersey staff director let the young man go.”

The prosecutor’s office in Hudson County, N.J., said Sanchez was found to have violated the law in 2010 and subsequently required to register as a sex offender. The exact charge was unclear because Sanchez was prosecuted as a juvenile and those court records are not publicly accessible. The prosecutor’s office confirmed to AP that Sanchez registered as a sex offender, although his name does not appear on the public registry.

The following is very interesting:

Authorities in Hudson County notified ICE agents in early October that they suspected Sanchez was an illegal immigrant who was a registered sex offender and who may be eligible to be deported. ICE agents in New Jersey notified superiors at the Homeland Security Department because they considered it a potentially high profile arrest, and DHS instructed them not to arrest Sanchez until after the November election, one U.S. official told the AP. ICE officials complained that the delay was inappropriate, but DHS directed them several times not to act, the official said.

Whether or not he is a RSO, he is still 18 and here illegally.
