Govt. borrows 46 cents of every dollar it spends

Those "2 unfunded wars" would not have been necessary had Bill Clinton done his job as Commander in Chief.

Oh dear, this meme. Clinton contained Saddam and Iran without spending $3T and invading, giving the region to Iranian hegemony. Bush accomplished all that in a couple years.

Why is it that conservatives only know now to invade, spend trillions and assist our mortal enemies.

By the way, what president armed Saddam? Wait for it, wait for it . . .

A whole $17M?
Or is that, like, $16.5M rounded up?

98 - 0 vote on $631 billion dollars of new spending. So don't tell me anyone in Congress thinks we have a debt problem.

That was the point.

This only supports (as opposed to proves) the idea that no one in the Senate believes there's a debt problem.

No it means that educated people realize that we have a longterm debt problem and a more pressing shortterm growth problem, and that solving the latter will help solve the former.

Conservatives are like ER doctors who want to treat the diabetes of a patient who came in for injuries sustained in a truck accident.

Becasue Obama will never see a bill if He doesn't.

Yes but the left says congress controls the budget. So according to that logic why is Obama talking to anyone. I know he is the commander and chief and is supposed to lead and all that, but!!!!!!

Once again you amaze me. I think he was talking about OBL, who Clinton let go.

Congress does control the budget. If Obama wants someting in/from that budget, he has to talk to Congress - especially if that Cingess opposes His policies.

And your going to solve that short term growth problem by throwing trillions at a problem and hope something sticks. You've already threw over 6 trillion of borrowed money at the problem with no results. Now that didn't work so lets throw another 6 trillion of borrowed money and see it that works and so on. And all along the way we need more entitlements, no spending cuts, god forbid, we need more entitlements and free stuff. The people demand more entitlements and free stuff.

He does not have to talk to congress, especially the House leader. He may go to his controlled senate and let them know what he would like and then let the senate and the house battle it out. But then Obama says he will not sign a bill that does not have tax hikes in it. So much for congress controlling much of anything.

No, the Constitution says Congress controls the budget, not the "left."

And the POTUS is the CIC of the armed forces, not of the budget.

All bills for raising Revenue (that is, taxation) shall originate in the House of Representatives.

Perhaps wars fought "off budget" would be more accurate, or wars charged to the national MasterCard.
They were not included in the budgetary process, but they were funded thru the approproations process.
All of the spending was specified by law and accounted for in the appropriate CBO spending tables; none was hidden from anyone in any way.
This process is therefore a big deal only to dimwits that might some day aspire to be halfwits.

Fighting wars on credit is a big deal, particularly when the wars were unnecessary to begin with.

Both points are debateable - my point was that the fact the wars were not funded in the defense budget means, literally, nothing.

When you concider that Bush started with a surplus and burned through that surplus and added trillions to the debt, you get a better picture.

Obama is on track in his 8 years to have spent us into an increased 10 to 12 Trillion of added debt, doubling the the debt of every President before him combined, and you want to play semantics?

Obama called Bush 'unpatriotic' for in his words....

Now you tell me how, or why we shouldn't apply his own words here to what he is doing?

This only supports (as opposed to proves) the idea that no one in the Senate believes there's a debt problem.

When Congress (while not agreeing on anything else) can unanimously vote to continue military spending almost as much as the rest of the world combined, it was enough to convince me the national debt was of no real concern.

When that happens, please let me know.

It happened December 4th. You are welcome!

So... did you fail US Government, or have you just not made it that far in school?
The SENATE, not CONGRESS, voted 98-0.

So, again, when Congress unanimously votes to continue military spending almost as much as the rest of the world combined - please let me know.

In your laughing you evidently missed the bill has already passed in the GOP controlled House. Its a done deal!

So the GOP can stick their fake concern about deficit spending where the sun don't shine!

It seems they're hoping for some trickle down economics, but it only trickles down to the Presidential cronies.

Yeah, they cut $4 billion. What's that? About 15 minutes of spending?

Both parties win, but not the American people.
