Seniors Outraged Over Christmas Tree Ban - Local News - Wichita Falls, TX | NBC News

Residents in a Newhall senior apartment complex are protesting an order from management to remove their beloved Christmas tree from the community room because, they were told, it's a religious symbol.
On Tuesday, Tarzana-based JB Partners Group Inc. sent a memo to staff at The Willows senior apartment building demanding they take down Christmas trees and menorahs in communal areas.
The company has owned The Willows for four years, but this is the first time it's given such a directive to staff.
On Wednesday, two dozen residents in the 75-resident complex gathered in the lobby to place a neon green sign that read: "Please Save Our Tree." "We're all angry. We want that tree," said Fern Scheel, who has lived at the complex for nearly two years. "Where's our freedom? This is ridiculous."

Simple solution: In addition to the Jewish and Christian symbols include symbols from other winter-based religious and secular celebrations.

It is sort of curious that management didn't first require that they call it a Holiday Tree instead. Personally, I prefer "Festivity Conifer," but that's just me.

So A private company with private property and private assets is not allowed to make their own rules?

Obviously the senior facility has customers not of a christian bent and want a religious icon free environment.

I wonder how these same residents would speak if muslim resdients wanted to put up an Allah is great/Mohammed display during Ramadan.

They should have just called it a Holiday/Hannakuh/Ramadan tree and be done with it.
 
Every year there are three or four incidents of Christmas trees and nativity scenes being taken down. If that qualifies as a "war" on Christmas then I just don't know what to say.

Forget the substitute BS like "Holiday Tree" or "Yule Log." That's just atheist and homosexual nonsense. Forget about property ownership, if you own a rental, you CANNOT deny renting to those liberals that everyone knows will destroy your property because that is their culture. You can't even evict them when they don't pay their rent.

What kind of worthless clowns would deny old people their Christmas Tree, EVEN if they have the power to do so? Talk about elder abuse. I'd be looking for a new place to live.

This is a good illustration of the meanness of the liberals. Must be all little old white ladies in the home. How brave the loons are.

What are the Godless loons winning with this sort of meanness anyway? Everybody in my neighborhood already has all their trees up and lights put out on the house, scenes on the lawn. Any of you fruitcakes notice that you can't even get into Christmas Eve Mass because it's so crowded, more people every year. My children and I came out of Midnight Mass one year just as it started snowing, it was absolutely beautiful. If you don't have God, don't have Christmas, don't have faith, all you have is yourself and we all know the barrenness of that empty shell filled with hate, don't we?

Americans love Christmas, let the soulless fruitcakes stew with hate. Their hearts have nothing except to hurt helpless little old ladies at Christmas and justify their viciousness with false intellectualism on forums like this.

Just so I got this right, in your opinion a CHRISTMAS TREE isn't a religious symbol?
 
I admit I'm utterly baffled by even the existence of the concept of a war on Christmas. The Christmas season extends from Thanksgiving all the way to January 1st (that's 34 days), and is widely celebrated with varying symbols, including but not limited to Jesus, Santa, Christmas trees, menorahs and a billion other things. Easter, on the other hand, is celebrated with varying symbols, like Jesus and a rabbit that leaves chocolate in your sock drawer, lasts one day, yet Christmas is the holiday Fox News spazzes out about like clockwork? I suspect most Christians roll their eyes every time they hear "war on Christmas" every year, so I'm calling shennanigans. I suspect some marketing gimmick over this, and that Fox News isn't just catering to paranoid viewers but money is more directly involved somehow.
