Man with strange watch arrested at Calif. airport

Yeah, that's totally the equipment someone trying to sneak a bomb on a plane would wear. It's so subtle, you can hardly tell that it's unusual. The TSA must had their eagle eyes on.

and yet, if you were on a plane, and a middle eastern fella speaking farci to his buddy whips THAT exact object out...you telling me you wouldn't be the least bit concerned?

What if he was wearing it like a regular watch instead of concealing it and whipping out?
Would I be concerned then?
Just curious.

A bomb is nothing more than combustion under pressure. A 40lb propane tank is a bomb big enough to level a decent sized house.

Very simple. You take something that combusts, put it into a box, light it, and run.

Oh, and run! That's where the 15 year old me went wrong!

Any watch with an alarm could be modified to be an explosive timer, my brother did it, just take the wires from his old alarm clocks speaker and hooked to to an model rocket electrical igniter. Granted he was igniting a rocket engine, but you could easily use it on other things.

If a timing device is going to be considered bomb making material we are all going to jail lol. Later on my brother realized it was simpler to just wrap a fuse halfway down a cigarette as a time delay. Better start arresting all the smokers.

You can be assured that if someone lights up in an airplane...they will be arrested.

Hey guys, I caught a terrorist!

-Said no TSA agent, ever.

This is an awesome meme.

The Steampunk excuse won't do here because of the fuses and wires. I say we shoot the bastard and get on with our lives.

A toggle switch... Some electric fuses... And a watch... Ohhhh sooo scary.

Did your Light-Bright terrify you as a kid?

For reals... Its not like the guy was trying to conceal it. He had it on display upon his wrist I assume? I could see questions being raised. But jailing the guy and calling it "holding" over this crap is ridiculous.

If this dude would have been brown hed be in guantanimo bay and almost noone would feel pity for him. I think the average American is that racist against arabs and most dont even know it.

If he was brown it would have been airport + turban + watch with switch and fuses = indefinate detention and the news would have fluffed up how a terror attack was stopped.

If he was brown? As in Mexican, Asian, East Indian, Native American or just a customer of the local tanning salon? No, but if he looked Middle Eastern, he'd have been scrutinized more carefully, no doubt. Now, why would that be, I wonder? Hmm... any ideas anyone?

Second look at that watch, I believe every part of it is in my computer. Nothing he had on his wrist doesn't go through the checkpoints 2 Million times a day.

You have toggle switches and large fuses in your computer?

Fuses - Yes, on the mother board, sometimes in the power supply.

Toggle swith - turns wifi on and off.

You do not have THOSE fuses in your computer unless you are running something other than a PC and I doubt the toggle switch like that is in your computer either.

No I do not have the exact toggle or fuse, but my computer has components that do exactly the same thing. Truly, there are toggle switches on every computer. If you are at your desktop now, the on off button is a push toggle. My laptop (Asus) has a on/off switch right on the front that turns the wifi on or off. It works exactly like the one on his watch.

Fuses...why you would need these for a bomb...not sure, but you use a fuse to protect other components of a circuit from non-normalized currents/voltages. They are everywhere in your computer. So no, why I don't have THOSE fuses, I surely have the equivalency.

That being my original point, he had nothing special on him that doesn’t go through the checkpoint millions of times a day.

Because the fuses could have contained explosives disguised as a fuse.

He could of...

He may have...

He didn't. He was carrying a fuse. Please don't get me wrong, the watch looked menacing. However, it didn't have one single component that doesn't go through everyday.

Everything that goes through that checkpoint could be an explosive. Who knows, they could start putting rectal bombs in babies. They already used it Saudi Arabia (just not on a baby) and we know they have blown up women. Why not little children?

The illusion of safety is just that. This guy needed to be picked up. This same guy would have been picked up in 1995, 2000, or 50 years from now.

Apparently, the first time he tried to fly with it he contacted a TSA supervisor who said it was fine. And he flew with several times since then.

What could not have contained an explosive disguised as something else?
I suspect that the human body could contain plastic explosive disguised as fecal matter. Cavity searches all around?

I think the TSA truely failed by letting him through with it on. He should have been notified to stowe it. I think it being out in public would be disturbing the peace charge. It just doesn't seem like a rational thought to bring that device to the airport and onto the plane in plain site. It is harmless, but I think it could cause mental distress to others.

The fact they only charged him with possessing materials to make an explosive device is pretty clear that they don't have anything on him.Practically anything could be used to make an explosive or explosive device.

I being a rocket surgeon can quite litteraly make a bomb out of Bisquick pancake mix. Making something explode is easy. Making something explode in specific fashion not so much. I make rocket fuel out of granulated surger. If you can burn it likelyhood is you can explode it. Hell this basic physical science 101. The charges they have on this man are fricken riduculus. Is this man out yet or is he still in jail?

Oh dear, I forgot to add the //sarcasm// notations. I didn't expect to be taken lierally when I suggested shooting the guy for watch possession. In a brighter world, the Steampunk comment would have been self-explanatory.

This will teach me not to make assumptions about innate comprehension skills.

I cause people mental distress by being as pleasent looking as the ass end of a leporous baboon with a serious case of diarhea. Mental distress,:lamo. If they distresses over a funny looking watch they may well have a hotline to their pychatrist. I dont know who the hell cares about their mental distress, but I can assure you I for one dont. **** their mental well being. If they cant get along in life without some mental anguish along the way, they may as well put themselves out of their misery.
