Hostess threatens to lay off 18,000 employees unless strike ends[W:521]

And this is why unions exist. So that those who have money and power cannot exercise that power over everyone else with impunity.

ROTFLOL... tell that to the unemployed this morning.

Unions are usually highly unrealistic... this one had the ultimate reality check... Ugh...

"What's in your wallet?"

The owners have a few brands they can sell for top dollar... they can sell off equipment and buildings... and those brands will be produced in other states at a cheaper cost. Who the hell wants to stay in Kommunistika Kalifornia?

The company could have continued had management done their job in the first place.

The biggest company liability is the pension. Id say that falls under a mutual blame category. Management overpromised and the unions wanted too much.

We opened a pack of "Sweet Sixteen" Hostess min chocolate covered donuts this AM. Last Hostess product we'll buy.

Once again another group that had a initial good premise turned extreme. You can toss unions in with the NRA and the Sierra Club.

I don't see it that way, the company was wanting to treat it's employees the best they could, and not outsource to Mexico. In the end they found from severe competition they could not continue those pay packages. When the union was asked to downsize the pay packages they said "NO". Now the stupid greedy union workers are out of a job making nothing. And you can bet who ever takes over that company or moves it to Mexico, there will not be union workers at the plants. And if moved to Mexico it will not be American workers.

If the bakers' union hadn't stayed on strike they'd still be in business. What the heck are you talking about?

It's an amazing thing the left does, blame people years ago for current things. Be it Hostess, or be it 'Bush's Fault!'

It's like living in the present scares them or something. ;)

Maybe those 18,500 collectivists out of work will think twice the next time they have a job and start making outrageous demands.

You mean like, just three short years ago, in 2009, when the union made concessions of over a hundred million dollars in labor saving costs to the company and the thousands of union members that lost their jobs?

Think twice? It seems as though they did and decided not to be played again.

Outrageous demands? You mean like pensions, so they don't have to depend on SS for their retirement?

The workers will survive, they'll find jobs and management will walk away with their usual 'golden parachute'.

Because venture capitalists sunk it all into debt. Hoping to make a buck off that.

Yeah, here's a couple of articles on it.

But it's much more fun for the usual suspects typical union bashing, cut workers pay/benefits to bare minimum, then bash again when they don't make enough money to pay federal income tax or don't have enough retirement so that they have to survive on SS.

Twinkies eBay: Hostess Treats On Sale For $200,000 Amid Twinkie-pocalypse Fears

While it will be possible to buy Hostess treats from stores for "a few more days" until already baked products run out, the inevitable -- and wildly inflated -- "black market" of Hostess products has already reared its costly head on the Interwebs in preparation for the impending Twinkie-pocalypse.

One eBay seller is auctioning off a full box of Twinkies at a starting (and staggering) price of $200,000 (shipping included):

Twinkies eBay: Hostess Treats On Sale For $200,000 Amid Twinkie-pocalypse Fears

iLOL

From what I have seen presently, a box ranges, with variances, from about $20.00 to $10,000,000.00.

Do you even know what you claimed?

Let me help you out.

Because the above (a four year period :doh) doesn't support it at all.

You done dancing yet?

And obviously the worker was getting paid too much. $20 dollars and hour to make ****ing Twinkies. That is too much.

That stat wouldn't have anything to do with modern technology or faster, more efficient machinery now would it?

Spot on. But reality will never set into the deep recesses of the minds of those that have an agenda.

Well exactly. Why shouldn't they be asked to sacrifice something for their past mismanagement?

Instead this thread goes where almost every union related thread goes...."But but... JOB CREATORS! Unions are overpaid greedy cretins who just want to take all of the money!"
The Capitaliban myth that the rich create jobs is like saying that vampires create blood.

Have a chart comparing that to their competitors? Bet you don't.

What about a chart showing the cost of regulations too? Bet you don't have that either.

Yet. Regardless...you always have better ways...you always are so much better at the notion of job creation than those that have actually spent...oh...I dont know...decades actually CREATING jobs....so...why this timidness? Why is it when challenged to actually stand by your own ideas do you fail to do so?
They only create jobs in foreign sweatshops. If labor cost justifies that, why not hire foreign CEOs to come here and give the empty suitcoats a taste of their own medicine? I'm sure an Indian CEO would work for a fraction of what our bloated fatcats get. Even the Japanese top brass only get 11 times their workers' lowest wages, while the American Capitaliban get 456 times what the people who actually do the work get.

As a business owner and employer I invite you to put your superior business ideas and strategy to play and hire 18000 recently unemployed bakers. They and about 23 million Americans eagerly await the actions and deeds of the enlightened folks that always know better yet never seem to DO better.

Bah, he's an idea man, a visionary -- you can't expect him to actually DO anything.

The most valid statement on this topic.

Anyone who believes they can do it better, do it.

Unions are trying to get better wages for workers. You do realize, of course, that workers have become 300% as productive as they were in 1947, but have only received about a 100% wage increase since then? Workers are giving Corporations far more than they're getting in return.

Get used to workers fighting for better wages - nationwide. Your beloved CEOs get better pay as time goes on. Workers are people, too.

Sorry, but reality isn't what Gina Rineheart says it is.
Capitaliban hero Herbert Hoover started out in the same business and place and with the same attitude that Rinehart squats on before dropping her load on her nation. This is what happens when such conceited thieves get political power. Despite all the expensive and widespread propaganda they buy that says otherwise, guillotine fodder like this don't earn their wealth; they get it by luck or cheating. The more loot they get, the easier it is for them to steal more. This hidden economic process is like the disaster that would be caused if the NBA champions got the #1 draft pick.

They know they can't do it better. They don't have any desire to try to. All they want to do is hunt down examples of success and destroy them.
