Census: U.S. Poverty Rate Spikes, Nearly 50 Million Americans Affected

Interesting how you cannot counter any of my statements....
As I am sure you have noticed, you were asked to present a rational, objctive argument to support what you believe "should" be - and you have, as yet, completely failed to do so.
As such, what you believe "should" be in no way requires a counterargument as it has yet to be shown anything other than your sujbective opinion.

They very fact that you continually avoid presenting that objective argument indicates that you know you cannot supply such a thing, and so you hope to misdirect the conversation in an attempt to obfuscate that fact.

So, my statement remains - absent an objective argument, only the unthinking will agree with you.

So, my statement remains.

The only thing that remains is your failure, your incompetence and the corporate chains that encircle your slave ridden limbs

People knew the number of people on welfare is rising under the current administration and voted for that status quo direction to continue. The "will of the people."

In what seems the new "its about what's in it for me" values, I'm not unemployed. Other adults of "us" aren't either, exception my wife and she shut down a notably lucrative growing business to get the government off her and instead just rely on government benefits, aid and entitlements - which are definitely higher than the poverty line... the government doesn't count "you could have a business" as one possible employment, just "jobs."

... so what matters is that we're doing ok. I think that's the correct way to look at this topic.

Besides, that's only 1 in 6 poverty. That means 5 in 6 aren't. 5 out of 6 making it ain't bad, is it?

I was wondering when "it's Bush's fault" would show up. Sure enough, in the first liberal post to the thread.

I know. Everything he did vanishes the minute he leaves office. As as Obama goes, nothing he did will matter. I get it.

However, I didn't say Bush. So, your silliness is just that. Silliness.

Says he who cannot back up his position of what "should" be with an objective argument, thusly garnering support only from the unthinking among us.

Yep, it's really time Republicans stop blaming current conditions on what transpired over the last four years. We all know that the world is wiped clean on election day.

Agreed, sadly. Like Maggie Thatcher observed, it works fine until you run out of other people's money.

You're the one with the guns in your signature - perhaps you can enlighten everybody in here as to how violently you can impose your derranged fascist corporate ideologies upon the masses so that the delusional elite Plutocrats can enjoy skimming off the vast profits from the efforts of their crushed slave classes?

and of course the banksters never seem to run out of money - and when they stuff up everything with their fascist corporate greed they run to the State for bail outs and subsidies

Interesting how you demand market discipline and rational economics for the state and tax payers, but socialistic corporate welfare and artificial protectionism for the elite unaccountable unelectable Plutocratic fascists that enslave you into your cell of delusional freedom.

Their propaganda is so effective and relentless that you cannot even see the chains that encircle your limbs.

You may want to quote Goerge Orwell rather than the Iron Maiden

(I also notice that you refuse to quote Maggie Thatcher's views on global warming - you are aware that Maggie held a Chemistry degree and warned the world as early as the late 1980s that human induced global warming effects are the biggest threat to human civilisation? I suppose you pick and choose what fascist remarks you wish to publicise - isnt that correct Mr Diogenes - a nick name that has ancient Hellenic integrity - why are you using it in public?)

You do realize there's been legislation by Obama to put anyone on welfare. Nor has there been objective to suggest more people want to Ben on welfare. I challenge anyone show any such thing.

You're the one that knows he cannot objectively support his opinion, and that only the similarly unthinking will be persuaded by same.

...again you refuse to tackle the issue in hand

And everybody in this Forum has witnessed first hand WHY you cannot mount a sensible argument to support your greed based fascist ideologies

I suppose that is why you value firearms so much

How else could you implement the slave based fascist corpocracy upon the good people of the USA?

Blame it on Obama again? The United States Army is developing a weapon that can reach and destroy any location on earth withing an hour and now you have 50 million americans struggling to survive?

...again you refuse to tackle the issue in hand
This issue at hand is your ooinion of what "should" be, an opinion that you recognize you cannot back up w/ any objective argument.

As such your opinion is no more persuasive to a thinking person than your opinion that mustard is good on strawberry ice cream.
Thus, there's no need to mount a sensibe argument to counter your opinion becasue you have not presented a sensible argument in support of your opinion.

I'm sorry that yo do not like the fact that you cannot present an objective argument in support of your opinion, and that, absent that objective argument, thinking people will reject your opinion out of hand - but those are the facts, and there's nothing -I- can do to change them.

Provide for the common defense.
Promote the general welfare.
Provide and promote do not mean the same thing.

FRAUD ALERT.

Art 1. Section 8
The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and
Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general
Welfare of the United States
; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be
uniform throughout the United States;

Have you ever bothered to read this thing?

Your intentional intellectual dishonesty is of no interest to me or any other thinking person.

Translated: you've been shown to be totally ignorant of the Constitution and thought that the general welfare clause was only in the preamble, not Article 1's enumerated powers. But I bet you keep posting this nonsense.

So tell us, can you see the word "promote" in this clause? I do. Look closely at the bolded text.

"Poverty" doesn't mean what it used to mean. To be impoverished for a family of 4, means less than $22,800.00.

Although certainly not wealthy living, to be in "poverty" in the United States, is an income over 300% higher than the average income for nearly 80% of the countries of the world and three times the average income in the world - with that including calculating the wealthiest countries. Our "poor people" are on average 300% better off than over 75% of the people of the world.

In addition, a person is to receive food stamps in that same family up to an income of $29,976.00.

I would describe that as low income, not as being "impoverished." I don't see $1800 a month, plus food stamps, plus childcare assistance, and medicaid as being "impoverished." Low income yes, impoverished no.

It also is notable that what the federal government defines as being in poverty in terms of benefits is HIGHER than the census counts as poverty by 130%.

Actually, adjusted for inflation and cost of living changes over the years, the poverty level mimics the first thresholds released in '63 and '64.

Comparing levels of wealth across national borders is quite meaningless. It serves only as a convenient method in which to minimize the plights of those at home and act as a diversionary tactic of sorts.

The census is run by the Federal government, and acts as a mass stat shop, in order to form estimates of benefits doled out by the HHS and other bureaus. Their definitions of poverty are in fact, the exact same, the difference you speak of is the method HHS uses in order to calculate at what level above the poverty level one no longer remains eligible for federal assistance programs.

You seem to have some serious problems. I hope you seek help.

This is actually the fault of the unions.

They have forced us to send American jobs to China as fast as we can.

Blue collar Americans are overpaid.

Total BS!
