Top U.S. commander in Afghanistan under investigation, scandal widens

The craziest part, is how the FBI knrw about the affair before Patreaus became DCI and didn't tell ANYBODY.

Broadwell said that the CIA were olding Libyan prisoners in Benghazi and that was the reason for the attack..

We don't know if that's accurate. There is an ongoing investigation into the events in Benghazi.

I agree.. but why would Broadwell say that in public while she was in Denver.. Pretty crazy if you ask me.

I don't know her actual motives nor whether the information was accurate. Those are things that depend on the outcome of the investigations.

Well lets not forget Holly Petraeus (the wife) was using her time, intellect and abilities back at home in an unglamorous and tedious volunteer position of helping military families get out of financial trouble by using her brain to advise, lead, and help them wade though financial messes created. General Betrayus might have not just lost his glory yet also a good woman who loved him.

I just cannot help but wonder with all the aides exclaiming of Paula's brazen flaunting of her unprecedented access if she also undermined the mission by disrupting the team effort and morale.

Who the hell was she to be speaking on Libya security and "secret" supposed prisons in the embassy. Her fb page taken down had information and ...good gawd threatening another female not to get near Petraeus.

I could understand how people far away from home and working diligently could fall for each other ... yet it sounds as though she approached him went after him and he took the bait and put her in positions of biographer when she was unqualified. This was not an accidental "falling in love" ...yet a strategic planned putting in place of an unqualified person.

Jeesh I am disappointed ... other people say he was a show man and she was flaunting ... I am saddened by this.

Our own military and tribal leaders even commented her tight scanty clothing was not culturally acceptable in that region ... from the simple to the sublime this woman was not an asset.

Did any of our tax payer money go towards her ... travel expenses, security, lodging etc?

First that I have heard this - do you have a source for this new information?

It has all the makings of a thriller spy adventure. Where/who's the spy. Women, sex, access, generals, admirals, provileged info, security leaks, and Mid East wars. Wowser!

All relieved of duties, quit or under fire in the past few weeks. All high ranking. Can anyone add to the list? Sounds unprecedented to me.

*Gen. John R. Allen, the top American and NATO commander in Afghanistan

*General Patraeus-CIA Director

*Rear Admiral Charles Gaouette-Command of Carrier Strike Group 3

*General Carter Ham- Commander AFRICOM

Carter Ham is working on the Mali situation..

Rear Admiral Gaouette has rumors flying about everything from sexual misconduct to mutiny.

Patraeus is in hotwater because of his affair.. and you have to wonder about any general who can send 20-30 thousand personal emails in 2 years.

I don't know...roughly 34 emails a day...I think my old boss had more than that.

From WaPo:

When stories move quickly, a single detail can sometimes take on a life of its own. The day’s developments surrounding CIA Director David Petraeus includes one such detail: the number of e-mails that General John R. Allen is said to have sent to Tampa socialite Jill Kelley.

A defense official originally stated that the e-mails, sent since about 2010, numbered 20,000 to 30,000. It was quickly reported that this number in fact refers to the number of printed pages of correspondence, which actually number “a few hundred,” Craig Whitlock and Rajiv Chandrasekaran reported in today’s Post.

PSA: Gen. John Allen did not send 30,000 e-mails to Jill Kelley

Pretty crazy indeed since it seems likely that she was just parroting something she heard on Fox. I don’t have the link handy but given something else she said at the time, that seems to be here [non]source.

EDIT: The crazy, CRAZY part is the shirtless FBI agent friend of Jill Kelly who started this investigation at the personal request of his friend, then got yanked off the case because his superiors’ [supposed] of concerns of personal attachment/involvement with the case (something to do with a topless pic he emailed to Kelly). So what does buff FBI guy do? Calls the Cantor in the House, who thus learns about the investigation before the GD President since somehow it hadn’t made it up the chain of command to the WH yet?

Falcon Crest? Toss in Dallas, Dynasty, and General Hospital and you are starting to get close..
:shock::doh

No kidding, FBI careers need to stop because of this garbage.

What a bunch of fools.

No, that was Allan, and it wasn't 20-30k e-mails. That's how many pages that came out when they printed the e-mails. If you've ever printed e-mails, sometimes you can annoyingly get 4-5 pages printed for an e-mail that might be two or three paragraphs long.

I like GEN Petraeus, but IF (big IF) it turns out he leaked classified information to this woman then he should be prosecuted. What is good for Private Manning is good for the General. Now, his service to his country should of course be taken into account when it comes to sentencing.

But once again, that is a big if. While I wasn’t the least bit surprised he cheated on his wife, I would be surprised to find out he leaked classified information. But this story is getting crazier by the day so who knows?
