Top U.S. commander in Afghanistan under investigation, scandal widens - Yahoo! News

The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan, General John Allen, is under investigation for allegedly inappropriate communication with a woman at the center of the scandal involving former CIA Director David Petraeus, a senior U.S. defense official said on Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The shocking revelation threatens to fell another one of the U.S. military's biggest names and suggests that the scandal involving Petraeus - a former four-star general who had Allen's job in Afghanistan before moving to the CIA last year - could expand much further than previously imagined.

The U.S. official said the FBI uncovered between 20,000 and 30,000 pages of communications - mostly emails and spanning from 2010 to 2012 - between Allen and Jill Kelley, who has been identified as a long-time friend of the Petraeus family and a Tampa, Florida, volunteer social liaison with military families at MacDill Air Force Base.

I don't know how this General is involved but according to the article he's been emailing Jill Kelley for 2 years with over 20K pages. Unbelievable and what a weird turn of events.

Ir sounds like more than just an affair ...Petraeus put an unqualified person with unprecedented access in place for the biography of his life. I am disappointed in "Peaches" as she called him.

Not so much because of the affair ...yet how he let her infiltrate and undermine the team ... and ultimately her cat fighting and bullying another female friend of his led to this investigation. clearly she publicly flaunted on fb, with social beahviors and even speaking inappropriately about the terrorist strike in Libya.

I have lost respect for him.

I bet his wife will give him more combat than he saw in the mideast.

It's really strange how this other general seems to have some kind of relationship with his family friend (Kelley) the one who was being intimidated. Makes you wonder what the hell kind of love triangle and twists were going on with these top officers?

I see a movie in the making.

I see a movie in the making.

No kidding. It's going to be a drama filled soap before this story completely unwinds. Here's a good article showing most of the players. And this Jill Kelley is quite a number.

Here's a quote from Broadwell's father. Interesting, not sure again how true.

But Broadwell’s father said Sunday his daughter is the victim of character assassination and implied the bombshell story is just a smoke screen for something bigger.

“This is about something else entirely, and the truth will come out,” Broadwell’s dad, Paul Krantz, told the Daily News outside his home in Bismarck, N.D.

“There is a lot more that is going to come out,” said Krantz, claiming he was not allowed to elaborate. “You wait and see. There’s a lot more here than meets the eye.”

WTF?! When did the war in Afghanistan become Falcon's Crest?!

Holy crap. First our secret service get caught up with the the Columbian hookers and now we got out top generals in some kind of love triangle-hexagon.

This was not a conspiracy at all as suggested by the Republican losers. This was all due to something Ted Nugent called cat scratch fever.

Once again make a note of it, all men are jackasses. Some bigger than others.

Robin Williams nailed it:
"
"God gave men a brain and a penis, but only enough blood to run one at a time."

I agree. One of the kindest wishes you bestow on a fellow American is "May you never be the subject of a Movie of the Week"

It would seem we have at least 6 people (counting wives) who have not had that wish granted.

Least she is pretty, unlike Lewinsky. She looks like a standard "****ed her way to the top" sort, surrounded by obliging powerful white men.

I hope that the investigations will be thorough and objective. Concrete decisions should be made strictly from the information found, not sentimentality for personalities or their past contributions to the country. If sanctions against these generals e.g., revocation of security clearances, among other possibilities, or other measures are necessary, then so be it. The nation's security and its interests are far more important than any single individual or group of individuals, much less their legacies.

Wonder why Broadwell wanted to take the General down?

If she leaked classified information, she might have been trying to elevate her own significance rather than take anyone down. If General Petraeus gave her classified information, and we don't know that, he should be held responsible. That he had a distinguished military career and made great contributions to the U.S. would not and should not excuse any leak of classified information, if it occurred.

Oh I agree totally...

At this time, there is probably much still to be learned. Certainly, I don't have enough details to go beyond what I stated. I hope for a thorough and objective investigation and, afterward, necessary steps being taken based on the information found.

Broadwell said that the CIA were olding Libyan prisoners in Benghazi and that was the reason for the attack..

This could get nastier.

So let me get this straight: All of them are married to someone else and none of them are gay?

Well, not ALL men. There are plenty of men that don't do stupid **** like this.

Let us not forget that these men didn't commit adultry withoit the help of a woman.

It's not just Petraeus & Allen, see NY Times Concern Grows Over Top Military Officers’ Ethics.

It sounds like there's a lot more scandals coming. Pres. Obama is going to have a lot distracting him & I suspect a lot of his top officials will decide to head for the exits.
