Papa John's CEO: Obamacare likely to raise costs, employee's hours being cut [W:387]

Reddit's in a tizzy over this. People don't realize that when you impose extra costs on employers they will pass those costs on, either raising prices or cutting workers and pay. It's not hard to figure out. If you really want Papa John's employees to have health insurance, don't create a system that so strongly encourages employers to control healthcare. All the system is good for is driving up costs and creating these stupid news controversies. I don't really care that much, though. Never been a fan of Papa John's.

We've been saying it on boards like these for years, but some folks just can't put two and two together. They want everyone everywhere to be paid more and for everything everywhere to cost less, and think government will accomplish that for us.

Jet,
I noticed you didn't come close to touching one question. Didn't even get within the same continent. Why is that?
Is it because there is no defense? Just as Obama could not defend his failed economic record?

Well than I guess that makes two of us now doesn't it.

Go through my posts... I'll throw out a one liner... but go through my posts.

I'm an unabashed Conservative, a former Socialist and know Socialists will never be won over with one liners.
Your views are based on a fictional universe that exists only within your own mind, you don't live in reality you live in a partisan fantasy universe where the Dunning-Kruger Effect is in full swing with you.
I noticed you answered my questions from the last post... more ZERO calorie beer.

Really?
Politically you are utterly incompetent.
ROTFLOL... Jet... as a young man I made a point to learn about politics. My parents never told me who they voted for... they figured I'd be a responsible citizen and figure it out for myself. What a gift. I was indoctrinated by Socialist propaganda, but learned my way out of it.

I may seem incompetent to you because you are a member of Parasite Nation, and I despise it. I understand. But deep down you know you are lying to yourself. And that... is the worst person to lie to. Might make a nice public show with other members of Parasite Nation... but it's just more ZERO calorie beer.

For years I have read your tripe on this forum that has almost 9/10 been devoid of any factual relevancy related to our living universe.
For years I have posted fact to debunk Socialism, that Bush lied on Iraq, and defending America from Parasite Nation. I know I'm not popular with Parasite nation, but this isn't about being popular with people who are wrong headed.

My aim to to defeat you, to shame you, to expose you for what you support... which is decay, dependence, and a desolate existence. I prefer Liberty... personal responsibility, charity... FREEDOM.

He was able to offer a million free pizzas because it was a promotional tax write off. Just like most companies get a tax write off for airing commercials.

Wait so you're just going to exclude me and say I'm whats wrong with America when I'm just trying to make enough to get by working at Papa Johns and the government happened to give me something I didnt' want?
You specifically? No...I dont blame you for whats wrong with America. I blame anyone that thinks they are entitled to free **** and expect others to pay for it.

But...as I said...the beautiful thing about this country is that anyone can go out and create their own business and provide all the free **** they want to...provided they dont create another 16 trillion in debt for those 'free' services and pass them on to future generations.

Problem is the republican party has lost its way... and it appears to me that they would rather tank the economy and blame Obama than go to work. Every Tom, Dick and Dodo is making excuses for his business decisions...

Except Christie and he pulled off a hell of a deal with panasonic in Newark.

No Papa John's is a political sham of a statement. He has already said 14 cents and now after the LOSS of Willard he doubles down on the mean petty spirit by reducing hours. Adding 14 cents per pie vs hurting his employees across the board.

he is an example of how bitchy some millionaires can be. he is to the policies of the current President as Joe the Plumber was in the first election. Speaking of Joe, what happened to him?

Only a few on the radical right he guys like this pizza man as beleaguered or downtrodden.

The House sent 20 bills to the senate... none were taken up.

Obama had both chambers for 2-years... what did it reap? No budgets and spending like Michael Jackson in a toy store.
Except Christie and he pulled off a hell of a deal with panasonic in Newark.
I don't know this story; tell me what did he do to get Panasonic to NJ. I'll guess... You'll have to copy and paste for the answer... it's invisible.

Tax breaks... and other breaks...

Christie Leaning on Tax Subsidies in Hunt for Jobs

Panasonic received $102.4 million in tax credits to move its headquarters nine miles within New Jersey. Goya Foods picked up $81.9 million in credits to build offices and a warehouse in Jersey City, two miles from its current complex. Prudential Insurance obtained $250.8 million to move a few blocks to a new tower in Newark.

'Giving' people is one thing. Being forced to provide for someone else is entirely different. And unless you are paying for your insurance as a component of a benefits package (part of your mutually agreed to equitable compensation) then yes...you are being a parasite...if you are draining others resources against their will. If so, then you are not. Shocking you dont understand that.

I assumed people knew what I meant when I said that. Paying the cost of it and paying company's rather than straight out of pocket is what I meant.

Papa John's CEO: Obamacare likely to raise costs, employee's hours being cut

That doesn't answer the concerned question though. Do you pay for your insurance as a component of a fair and equitable compensation package or was your employer "forced" to pay for it?

LOL for the peanut gallery. Because minorities came out and supported the minority face over the white face does not mean that the GOP lost its way. It just means more people wanted their Obamaphone than wanted to takeaway their Obamaphone. Serious candidates do not come out and challenge the sitting POTUS because the task is daunting under the best of circumstances. Good Luck getting the minorities to come out for your next lily white democratic nominee.

It's called a profit margin.

Not even a week since the election and Obama's cover story is already being written.

You probably aren't aware the many of these "deadbeats" are seniors and veterans... of all colors.

Maybe Conservatives should all go and buy Papa John's pizzas to support this brave man for standing up to evil Libbos. Like they did for Chick-fil-A.

FYI, Papa John's are franchises. So those are all independent businesses regardless of what the CEO says.

Prove it. Where in the tax code is this a deductible business expense?

I'd agree with that, except that the solution shouldn't be making healthcare a privilege.

He ups his price by 14 cents and voila he has restored the sacred profit margin. Hell do some 'new and improved' BS and raise the price 24 cents.

This isn't about a profit margin, this is about a wealthy man hurting his employees to make a spiteful political statement.

I would do just that but ours is in the "liberal" part of town and I would hate to get mugged by them twice in the same week.

Suckers.

Wouldn't you be embarrassed to say you had to cut employee hours rather than pay for their healthcare if you lived where the owner of Papa John's does?

This large and over the top mansion is owned by the founder and CEO of Papa John’s, John Schnatter. The house is 40,000 square feet and it resembles a castle. One interesting feature on this 16-acre estate is the 22-car underground garage, complete with an office for valet parking, a car wash and even a motorized turn table to move limousines. The home also has a state-of-the-art exercise suite and a huge 6,000 square foot carriage house. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any information on the inside of this interesting estate.

Edit: I say that because, as someone who's had a number of full- and part-time employees, I would be.

I'd agree with that, except that the solution shouldn't be making healthcare a privilege.

Government involvement in healthcare is what makes it so much more expensive or inefficient. The best example of free market healthcare is plastic surgery, which is not covered by most plans. This has led to large reductions in cost in that industry. If you want to help people who can't afford healthcare, sure, but overall healthcare costs and efficiency would be much better if largely left to the market.

Prove it. Where in the tax code is this a deductible business expense?

I'll have to dig a bit further for proof, but this link states it in general:
Qualifying Deductions
Other than unnamed and anonymous efforts, a business can deduct most of its advertising and promotional expenses from its taxable income. This includes outdoor advertising; fees for TV, radio and online marketing; costs associated with using advertising agencies or marketing firms; and the costs of copyrighting ads, logos and marketing slogans. Other promotional expenses that are deductible include printing business cards with company logos, printing fliers, holding special events for customers, sponsoring sports teams and making donations that result in public recognition.
Tax Deductions for Advertising & Promotion Costs

I have to get my lawn mowed today, so I'll have to wait until later to find it in the tax code.

This isn't about a profit margin, this is about a wealthy man hurting his employees to make a spiteful political statement.

When a new law is passed that raises costs on employers, those employers are going to pass the cost onto someone else. They can either raise prices or reduce the amount they pay for employees. Businesses are out to make a profit. To expect them to react to rising costs in any other manner is dumb.

Prove it. Where in the tax code is this a deductible business expense?

If you don't understand legitimate business expenses, no one can help you. Advertising/Promotion is a tax-deductible expense.
