CIA Director Resigns

Re: CIA director Petraeus resigns over affair

Agreed.

Disagreed. Clintons VAWA made past behavior relevant where it had not been earlier.

I don't see how dates w/Jennifer Flowers and Monica Lewinsky cigar tricks rise to "violence against women" but ok.
Seems we're getting off track.

Re: CIA director Petraeus resigns over affair

For god's sake people, the full explanation is in the thread not once, but twice. Read the ****ing thread. Since that is too much to ask: the woman he had an affair with got or was given access to his email account or emails and may have been able to access classified information she should not have seen because of it. This was discovered in a CIA investigation that has gone on for some time and was not specifically looking for this particular case.

I may have been a a little behind on the story but I did know about the FBI investigation and read she was only suspected of being exposed to classified info. Patraeus wasn't under investigation and she has not been charged with anything yet. I'm not ready to believe everything the gov leaks as 100% because they're so honest with the public. I still think it's awful convenient that Patraeus no longer will appear before the Senate and Mike Morell will instead. And I bet even if this is ONLY exactly what they say that there's many, many other stories related to sensitive material, especially CIA that we will never know about.

Re: CIA director Petraeus resigns over affair

Shades of J. Edgar Hoover:

An honest, honorable general is scheduled to give testimony that would be damning to a dishonest, less than honorable President.

The President wants to have the testimony make the President look good, a seemingly impossible task. So..........the President gets something dirty on the General and tells the General the testimony that the General is to provide under sworn testimony, all lies, but it makes the president again look like a hero instead of a clown. Refuse, the President tells the General, and the President will ruin the General's marriage and career by publishing the indiscretion.

The General, like so many honorable men when faced with blackmail, refuses to lie and instead, publishes his own indiscretion and resigns. Now he can give honest testimony if subpoenaed if he doesn't die in an accident first.

So why didn't Clinton resign?

I was not aware that Clinton allowed, accidentally or on purpose, any one access to classified information they where not supposed to have.

Re: CIA director Petraeus resigns over affair

And that will make it more difficult to impeach Obama. How convenient.

Obama is not getting impeached. Don't be silly.

It appears that wasn't the case with Patreaus either. It seems that the FBI initially mistook emails to his girlfriend as irregular....it turns out there was no compromise of classified information. See Nota Bene's post on the matter.

I stand corrected.

They don't. But VAWA allowed testimony regarding prior bad acts, and Clinton lied.

Clinton lied? You've got to be kidding? All politicians lie it's what they do....lol

I wish we could make them pay for all the false campaign promises they make. But unfortunately people want to hear lies or we'd vote in an honest person. Hmmm....

Well, isn't that just a stroke of luck for Obama? And a week before hearings on Benghazi too....My goodness....Obama needs to give me some lottery numbers for next week, he's so lucky it is amazing.

Clinton lied under oath in a court of law in front of a federal judge. Not even politicians can get away with that.

Uhhh, apparently they do actually.

Perhaps I should have said they can't get away completely with a felony. He lost his law license, but that's pretty small potatoes compared to what us ordinary schlubs would get for that offense.

Again, he shouldn't have had to but agreed he should've said nothing instead of lie in court. It is in my estimation a stale mate and more of a flaw in the legal system to allow it to get that far.

Seriously, you don't think lying to a whole Nation of 300+ million is worse? I guess false promises are considered part of the game and not a bad thing.

Did you know that they can still issue a supina(however the hell it is spelled)? So much for that nonsense of yours.

Re: CIA director Petraeus resigns over affair

You're probably right, but not because he doesn't deserve it.

What crime has he committed? Kicking your asses is not a crime.

Re: CIA director Petraeus resigns over affair

Congress could decide to call him as a witness. No problem there.

I'm convinced that powerful men can't keep it in their pants.

I don't disagree with that and I sure as hell don't blame them; I would use my position in the government to get laid, too--in a heartbeat ;)

However, the part that is fishy, is that powerful men usually do a better job of keeping it under wraps.

The use of government computers for personal use is a very serious charge and apparently there were a ton of them which as I understand it is how the FBI got involved in the first place.

The Clintons had access to 500 RAW FBI files on political opponents.
We know the Clintons lie under oath... both... Hillary on The Amazing Cattle Futures, and Bill was impeached for lying under oath.

Of course they never saw the files ROTFLOL; they were merely found in the WH.

Had Nixon done that he would have been impeached.

Re: CIA director Petraeus resigns over affair

The opportunity for blackmail exists with pretty much every one. It does not make it particularly likely. With the rest of the facts involved, the chance that the issue here is blackmail is vanishingly small. All those details are in this very thread. Is English your second language?

Flying three jet airliners into strategic targets in one morning was also considered pretty small.

There's nothing wrong with sending email from a govt computer....I haven't seen anything that said anything transpired on a govt computer, though.

and you'd see another Executive privledge combined with a metric ass ton of the 5th amendment.

..Subpoena..

This whole story sprang out of the the smoke screen originally floated that a demonstrating crowd burned the Embassy. When you start out spinning too quick you wind up back peddling from that point on.
