First Openly Gay Senator Elected

You know when I noted that I figured Kagan would vote anti gun if that issue came before her because she is a liberal jewish lesbian who taught at a liberal institution I was called a "bigot" by one person. But I agree with you, an out of the closet gay is probably going to side with gays on gay issues.

But if someone opposes gay issues would it be justifiable to vote against a gay because you might believe a gay would do just what you said

what's it like being gay in texas? are you open about it and are you in an area where that is an unpopular thing to be?

First, saying "a gay" is sort of ... degrading.

LGBT rights are a huge thing to me, and many times I vote based on that. I'm sure lots of people vote based on one or two major issues that concern them. So I would naturally vote against someone who opposes LGBT rights. That sort of tells me something about that person's character, that person's level of open-mindedness, and that person's beliefs.

I'm bi, and by "open" do you mean do I rub it in people's faces? No, I just live my life as most people would. I used to live in the "bible belt" of Texas where some of my friends who came out have been cast out by their parents. It's a really sad, restrictive environment to grow up in, in fact it's quite backwards.

Sorry I don't keep up on what is the current political correct terms. Gay people I know call themselves gay. I guess in other places that is no longer the current term of choice

and no I never said OPEN means rubbing it in someone's faces-most gays (or whatever I should call them these days) have no use for say the flamboyant in your face types who seem to try to shock people as much as possible

yes I did, you said I didnt answer, i did, that fact has already been proven

you again dodge my questions LMAO :laughat:

Repost your answer, please?

One day we'll have an atheist in the WH.

One day we'll have a woman as president in the WH.

One day we'll have a president who is neither a republican or a democrat.

Perhaps one day we'll have a president who can balance the budget.

What's your point?

The more we break down, and step over the IGNORANT biases that some people have towards others, the better chance we'll have of getting a president who can actually accomplish something wonderful.

Yeah, who's going to be the First Lady?

No vision? You want to explain that one? Is it because I have that terrible habit of seeing everybody as equals?

Sorry if it is over your head. It's something you either know or you don't. Just like discrimination.

I'm sorry but I just can get excited by stuff like this it's like "first senator to use missionary position gets elected", or "first senator to like role play gets elected", I'm really not caring what politicians get up to in their bedrooms.

Um...I think people tend to notice gay people for things aside from how they have sex. You know...by things like...I dunno...having a significant other of the same sex!

For example...if a women who you work with shows up at the office party with her girlfriend, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't have to know too many things about what they do in the bedroom to get the picture that she might be gay.

And there might be other indicators as well...such as they might be raising kids together or they might hold hands and kiss.

Just thought you might wanna know...because arguing that being gay is just a sexual act is...well...pretty stupid.

"gay" not "a gay" ... as if gay people are wild animals

It would be probably be as stupid and as pointless as telling me they do other stuff too, when I already know, so it's just as well I never argued that, isnt it?

I think maybe you missed the point of my post, so let me try & clarify for you.

One I was younger being gay wasnt just about your sexuality, it impacted on your whole life, in fact it could be incredibly dangerous where I lived as there was a very popular pastime in that era known as "queer bashing", where people went around physically assaulting (or in some cases even killing homosexuals).

Even someone like me, who isnt homosexual, risked physical violence, just for having friends who were, & to try & give you a flavor of the atmosphere of that time, & that place, I saw a couple of people, after being "outted", just vanish.

It was that bad, that unpleasant, that dangerous, that these people would rather abandon their home, their job, their families & vanish, than live in a world where people knew they were homosexual.

That was the culture of fear that existed, & the amazing thing was, in that culture, in that environment, some people risked even more violence to campaign to change things, & this is where we start to get to my post.

You see I remember some of these people, & I remember this one day, I remember this one guy who had just had a bit of a beating & I remember him saying something like "One day people will care!" & I remember the answer was something along the lines of "No, the real victory will be the day we've passed all this & nobody cares".

Welcome to my world, I moved passed things a long time ago, I dont care about someones sexual orientation, & certainly not in this capacity. If you think its essential to discuss a politicians sexuality then go right ahead, but I think its pretty stupid, & pretty irrelevant, & I really cant get excited about it.

so

can we no longer say 'a anyone'? is this like the next step in political correctness? :doh

No, it's the next step to speaking English.

In the expression, "Are you gay?" the word 'gay' is an adjective and describes an aspect of your overall make-up. In the expression, "Are you a gay?" the word 'gay' is a noun and defines you as that one thing. See the difference?

Using the expression, "Are you a anyone?" would mean that you cannot form a simple question in the English language.

ok but does an inability to grasp basic english now automatically imply some kind of discriminatory sentiment?

...are atheists allowed to run for office in US elections?

How many atheist Presidents have there been?

Currently in Australia, the Prime Minister is not only a WOMAN, but an atheist unmarried woman living with her boy friend who happens to be a hair dresser

The Australian PM also supports Gay civil marriage

The USA has one of the lowest levels of atheism in the world at around 6%, very similar to nations like Iran and North Korea

I guess Australia will get the respect it deserves. Sorry but the sad truth for you is many other countries don't respect that. They'll think Australians are a bunch of ******s. The hair dresser really messes it up. BTW, you need to tone down your comparison. I'm going to assume you're Australian since you're too chicken to reveal your location.

youre right of course

It's far more credible and honest to be a war mongering nation that has attacked about 37 nations since the end of WW2 and slaughtered about 23 million civilians

Nazism lives on in the fascist hands of the US Corpocracy

And pretending to believe in a Christian God, when the bulk of the American people bascially worship Beelzebub's way of greed, materialism and immoral slaughter, is the ultimate form of self delusional hypocrisy

enjoy your next hair cut (if you still require that service)

Yeah, but she's a pretty **** PM, I wouldn't recommend it.

Not being Australian it wasnt my position to comment in that regard but I dont care what sex they are, what theyre relationship status is, what their sexuality is, or whether they can cut hair, I am kind of more interested in if they can do the job or not.

That's my point. Sure she's a red headed, unmarried, childless atheist, but none of that is helping her govern the country, and she's not doing a very good job at all.

Really? You know this as fact?

You know how entire countries view Australia?

Why is what she does in her bedroom an issue of any kind?

Why are people clapping for her election just because she is a lesbian?

One day we'll have two men in the White House with children.

Better than having two children in the White House with no men. . .
