AP poll: Majority harbor prejudice against blacks

I'm not even going to line-by-line you.

Racism IS hatred or disgust and negative treatment of a racial group. You're pretending it's all OTHER things - and it's not. Other things have their own reason, their own category and their own definition and intent. . . Racism is specific.

Quit that **** - your view is exactly why some people cry 'that's racist!' when someone uses the term 'black hole' :doh Or like the idiot the other year who told me I was racist because I said "[Fast-food version] of Chinese food is disgusting" . . . please, pull BACK and put some perspective on your thoughts because you're way off base.

IN other news, there is so little real and substantive racism left in the United States that race-baiters have decided to make up an entirely new category of racism to whine about: "unconscious racism".

All you need to be unconsciously racist is to be white. Now isn't that special?

My question is how do you know that racism is at a low number when you are not the recipient of racism towards blacks? I live in Dallas TX and I have experience really good relationships with white people but I have had my fair share of bad experiences with whites as well. Now I will say that it is also a good number of racist blacks as well. Unfortunately, I have some in my family. My Grandmother said that compare to the 50's it has gotten better but we still have a long way to go.

I've got two eyes and two ears that work tolerably well, and I pay attention to people.

To be perfectly honest, my eyes and ears have seen and heard more racism by blacks against whites than vice-versa, in the past decade.

I don't understand what the big deal is. Many things influence us throughout our lives and we all have our own bigotries, all of us. The problem with things like this is it is trying to say far to many are racists when they are not. Someone having a preference for being around "there own kind" are not necessarily racists. Now if you take something like the aforementioned and add they want to seperate the US into racial states etc, that's racism.

Are racists around? Of course. You don't need an online study to tell me that. Don't however try to convince me that 50% of the population is racists. I have been many places and around the world and people hate on many things, race can be one of many things. Hell I run into more religious discrimination than racial.

An online study where anyone can say whatever they want is not convincing. Really when I have personally seen white separatist groups purposely screw with polls etc like this, I just take it with a grain of salt.

I have seen as much from both sides. The problem is with whites it is more undercover, and with blacks more open. I figure it's because blacks figure they can get away with it while whites tend to be ostracized.

You probably have a point at that. For a white person, saying anything that might remotely be taken as racist is a good way to find everyone you know avoiding you like a leper.

No doubt my friend, no doubt.

I have two adopted black sons and I've gotten many more harsh comments and nasty looks from blacks than I have from whites

if they are going to call you a racist no matter what you say then it really doesn't matter what you say, so you might as well say whatever you want and to hell with them

Hey, I genuinely DON'T want to offend anyone. I have several friends who are black and I value them... of course, they aren't the kind to be all hypersensitive and get easily butt-hurt, which is good given my warped sense of humor. :)

But I have regrettably known some folks that were so touchy it was almost impossible to talk to them at all. :(

I don't go out of my way to offend anyone. but if I speak the truth and someone gets butthurt over it....**** 'em ;)

The problem with racism is most people are really trying to move on and look forward, but the Democrats won't let us. Without racism...Jesse, Al, Louis, and half the media would be out of a job.

I find very little animosity between blacks, white, and Hispanics that see each other, work together, live close to each other, have kids that play ball together, or go to church or school together on a daily basis.

Those that do carry that angst tend to be on the fringes of society and not in circles I'd bother frequenting anyway.

In truth, there's FAR more animosity between blacks and Hispanics anyway. It's a stilted subject.

Getting along etc I agree on, but it is there. It is not just the media etc perpetrating a lie. Racism is still out there, in greater numbers than we care to admit. It comes from all communities and different types of people. Just because you don't see it, does not mean it's not there.

Have you ever been outside Texas? Blacks and Hispanics get along about as well as any other diverse group. If you go by just Texas white people also have a bigger problem with hispanics.

Erod your theory is incorrect for the most part. No disrespect, just sayin.

I guess what you call racism, I call just general observation and resulting opinion. There are stark differences between the state of the black community versus that of the white community, and racism has nothing to do with it.

And you could not be more wrong about Texas. People do get along well here; it's a lie propagated by northeasterners.

I travel a LOT. The most racist place I've ever been is Boston. By a mile.

Agreed but that is not what I am talking about. The only thing that will help out with that is black people.

Well how can you say blacks have a bigger problem with hispanics when that is blatantly not true? White in Texas due have a bigger problem with hispanics due to immigration. Tell me I am wrong?

If Boston is the most racist place you have ever been, well you need to go other placed, lol.

It's institutional in Boston. People of opposite races barely look each other in the eye, let alone talk to each other.

One of the least racist places I've ever been is Jackson, Mississippi. While people live on opposite sides of town, during the day you see see them everywhere TOGETHER, at lunch, playing golf, fishing, hanging out. People are so much less sensitive about their funny little differences.

I live in South Carolina, the state that kicked off the War Between the States by bombarding Fort Sumter.

SC is around 1/3rd black, or close to it, so whites and blacks are constantly interacting, working together, shopping at the same stores, etc.

I would say race relations here are very good. My boss is a black guy (and a great boss too btw), I know lots of black business owners and managers. I see white grandparents in their 70's walking around Wal-Mart with their mixed-race grandchildren almost everytime I go there... and you have to understand this is a HUGE change from 20 years ago, when a mixed marriage was likely to result in being disowned by the family.

Yea Boston can be bad. It depends on where you go in Boston though like anyplace else. I was just funnin with ya on that one anyway.

The South tends to be less racist overall than the North. Chicago for instance is a very racist town. I am talking about both sides no less. Yet I go to Oklahoma and it is peaceable etc between the races. Of course people aren't living stacked on top of one another either. Ahhhh so many things affect the situation.

I think the real problem lies with the people who yell racism at the drop of a hat when there is none. It like the media tends to exaggerate situations and makes situations look racist that are nothing of the sort. Racism is again out there and more so than we would like to think, but people making it far worse and watering down the word are not helping.

what I find interesting is that there are black people who are racist against other black people.

You're mostly wrong.

Sure, we want tougher immigration laws, but there's an IMMENSE amount of respect for the Mexicans who come to Texas for work. Those folks work damn hard. They build almost everything, and they work everywhere. There's a small percentage that are up to no good, drug traffickers and whatnot, but most very much just want to work and get money back to Mexico to their families.

Yep, but you wouldn't know it by what's said in the media. We're still hanging people down here if you listen to them.

We're the ones setting the example for the rest of the country, truth be known.

I think I am mostly right according to my Mexican friends. So we can just agree to disagree since it is all anecdotal either way.

Yes. Because we, as humans, exhibit subconscious preferences whether we are aware of it or not. I'm not saying "other people" get to decide the inner workings of your mind. I'm saying YOU - your conscious self - do not get to control the subconscious workings of your mind. Your mind does that all on its own and you have no direct control over it.

But maybe you don't harbor any implicit racism at all Maggie. Feel free to take the implicit association test yourself and find out.

Do you consider yourself free of implicit racism?

Ann Coulter was on the Bill Maher show recently and said “real racism,” for the most part, no longer exists in the United States.

So far comments I've read are saying this is nothing more than blatant propaganda on the part of the Obama campaign, an attempt to 'shame' ignorant white folks into voting for that black guy -- I so luvs me the True Believers

What do you think of this?

Report: Obama Inauguration Preacher Says ‘America Is Going To Hell In A Hand Basket’ « CBS Atlanta

My opinion? The pastor is very old, and bless his heart. I don't think that his extreme views are typical. At least I hope not because they're scary.
