Quran Burning Pastor Barred From Entry Into Canada [W:73]

Any Americans who are against the actions of the Canadian Gov should take a step back because most western countries including the US have a black list ( a list of people who can not gain entry to a country).

Sure, but Canada has stupid reasons and fascist free speech law.

Yes it does. :rolleyes

LOL - they have the same nature of free speech laws that we do - just like ours, they have a few limitations aimed to make life together more tolerable.

Really - don't you think the US has the right to determine who can come and go? I think we do and so do they.

I think it's all pretty freakin' funny. The preacher wants to exercise his right to free speech and express his hatred, that's fine. Then Canada gets to exercise their right to tell any foreigner to get the hell out. It all looks entirely fair to me. People do have rights but there always consequences for practicing them too. It's wise to remember that other people have rights as well, and given ample reason, they may exercise them. Maybe this idiot preacher will follow the "spirit of the law" as well as the letter of the law, in the future. He probably won't, but the chance to learn has been provided to him.

Governments can determine who comes and goes, and I can think they're stupid.

Ooooh, he burns Qurans!!

What sissies poop their pants on that one? Canadian sissies, that's who.

He's actually done more than that - and it offended Germany - and they filed a charge against him - and Canada took it into note.

He's a bigot full of hate speech, his only mission is to cause endless trouble - do they really need him to visit? No. They don't need the international drama that might ensue. . . they don't have to have him there if they don't want him.

I think the real reason is that he broke laws, probably by setting fires and stuff, and shows every intention of doing it again. In America, we don't give a crap what you burn, as long as you bought it and you're not breaking a law.

How about the american flag?

It's not illegal
No, not illegal, but...

Don't care.
You (ecofarm) may not care, but most Americans do indeed care.

I don't think so. Everyone I know is ~"like I give a damn what some idiot does, I got stuff to do". Perhaps you hear too much of the fringe.

Wasn't there a petition or something that got shot down in vote?

I'm really angry that Canada wouldn't let him in. Because had they let him in, we could have refused to let him come back. On what grounds, you say? I don't care...how about invoking an international version of the DBAJ rule?

Seriously, Canada is allowed to let into their country anybody they choose, and to keep anybody they choose out of their country. Don't like it? Don't visit Canada.

I don't care either. Don't know anyone who does. Hippies are the negligible dregs of society, and nobody who matters cares about what they think.

Regarding flag burning specifically, I believe that most Americans do care, and would rather not see it happen, but fall short of thinking an amendment should be passed making it illegal. Caring and disapproving does not have to automatically take the form of "it ought to be illegal". In this example, I believe most Americans suck it up and recognize that free speech is the more important of the two.

With such an argument, we could claim that most Americans care about everything. I took "care" to mean "oppose legally", and I don't see another useful interpretation of the word in this context.

Do you live in Canada? Why do you have such ill feelings towards Canada?

The Quran burning pastor form Florida is the news again but here in Canada. In this article by The Globe, it says that the pastor has for now been barred for entry because of a breach of peace charge in his past. I think the real reason they are stopping him is that we don't want him here. We don't take too kindly to people like him and don't want him in our country. What are American's thoughts on this?

Edit: He was travelling to Cnada to debate several people about free speech including: Imam Steve Rockwell the director of Sheikh Deidat Mosque, Dr Masud Ansari a prominent Islamic author, Dr Bikram Lamba Canada’s most prominent Sikh leader and author, Ron Banerjee Director of Canadian Hindu Advocacy.

Why do Canadians hate free speech?

I imagine that preacher's view is that he's glad to get some more publicity.

Good for Canada. He aint welcome in Europe either. In fact many of those right wing hate mongers are not wanted outside the US.

Which makes The United States of America the greatest nation in human history, because people aren't persecuted for their religious and political views.

Yes, because it's not like other countries don't have their own "right wing hate mongers".

Or, left-wing hate mongers, as well.
