Obama: 'We Don't Believe Anybody Is Entitled to Success in This Country' [W:108]

It seems they are putting their political party ahead of their country.

I don't even think Obamabots follow politics. I think they are all like the Obamaphone lady, IGNORANT.

youtube "Obamaphone" for a awesome laugh at utter stupidity and ignorance of Obamabots. I would post the link but the goons might ban me again.

I don't really think Obama has been clear about all that much lately - it really is hard to unravel what he is trying to say.

What he said was this: "We don’t believe that anybody is entitled to success in this country," said Obama. "But we do believe in opportunity. We believe in a country where hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded, and everybody is getting a fair shot and everybody is doing their fair share and everybody is playing by the same rules."

I've heard a lot of "I believe this, but" or "We don't believe this, but" come out of his mouth lately.... Equal opportunity? Sure - but NOT a guarantee of equality of outcome.

I did not take that as Equal Opportunity I took it as every America has an opportunity to take advantage of what this country has to offer. "We believe in a country where hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded, and everybody is getting a fair shot and everybody is doing their fair share and everybody is playing by the same rules."

Who made the claim that anyone was entitled to success? Who is he debating against?

Poor Obama is now trying to continue the debate after the game is over and everyone has gone home.

Considering the uproar from conservatives over stating that you are NOT entitled to success, one would think you're arguing that you are in fact entitled to it. Do you believe you're entitled to success? NO? Why complain about what Obama is saying then? Come on Grant.

For a President to say that nobody is is entitled to success in the USA?

That's plain wrong.

I do not understand why the right is so semantically challenged. This is another attempt at one of those "you didn't build that" out of context bumperstickers the right is so fond of.

He said a little more than that:

"This country doesn’t just succeed when just a few are doing well at the top. It succeeds when the middle class gets bigger. Our economy doesn’t grow from the top down -- it grows from the middle out. We don’t believe that anybody is entitled to success in this country," said Obama. "But we do believe in opportunity. We believe in a country where hard work pays off and responsibility is rewarded, and everybody is getting a fair shot and everybody is doing their fair share and everybody is playing by the same rules."

Please explain what is wrong with what he actually said above?

Then you took his rotten bait hook, line and sinker. because he meant none of it.

To summarize the collective feigned outrage by conservatives in this thread:

It was a bold-face lie to win your support and he succeeded once again. Congrats.

Photos won't do it any more. Try harder next time.

Maybe if he spoke in broader terms and set goals not specifics the right would like him.

This is actually what Obama does best....

Hey, your weak arguments don't give me much to work with. Here, I'll act like you have the basic skills required to understand what it is you're reading and ask you a few simple questions:

Do you believe you're entitled to success?

If so, by way of which amendment? Law? Natural right? You're more than welcome to demonstrate to ANYBODY in this thread how you are entitled to success.

I don't have a problem with the "entitled to success" part...I have a problem with the "fair share" part.

Exactly what is their fair share? Who decides? And what happens if I don't do what Obama considers my "fair share"?

Or maybe if he didnt:

1. Lie
2. Lie on top of Lies
3. Use a Teleprompter (makes him look rehearsed)
4. Did I mention Lying?

Yeah if not for Reagan she wouldn't have her free phone.

Hey, your weak arguments don't give me much to work with. Here, I'll pretend you have the basic logical skills required to understand what it is you're reading and ask you a few simple questions:

Do you believe you're entitled to success?

When you're a kid you're taught that you live in the greatest country in the world(which is true btw) and you are ENTITLED to go for it, whatever that may be in life to succeed. This is why we have a Constitution. It protects our RIGHT and ENTITLEMENT to Freedom to succeed.

Now if you can't under that simple logic, may I suggest 3rd grade again?

Such a well read fellow like yourself would of course know I was referring to Romney's remarks during the debate. What specifically do you believe is a lie though?

Interesting.

When contemplating the nature of ignorance, one criteria is a person's ability to read or listen and comprehend the meaning of the words in context. The more sophisticated or complex the concept/explanation the fewer the people that can comprehend it. Remember your SATs or the last IQ test you took.

The persistence of the right to deliberately misinterpret or misunderstand Obama's words indicates either a certain deliberate disenguousness or a fairly high degree of ignorance or an regretfully unfair helping of stupidity.

Take you pick.

I'll keep my thoughts of which categories you, the foaming at the mouth righties, and the mature well reasoned conservatives fall into, to myself.

Well, the President should pick up his words more carefully then

Hold on now..You're giving that flake Obama too much credit. Him supposedly being a top tier Lawyer he's suppose to already know what he's saying. right?

When you're a kid you're taught that you live in the greatest country in the world(which is true btw) and you are ENTITLED to go for it,

Good thing we grow up to be adults then and fairy tale stories we tell kids about our country don't apply to the real world.

his is why we have a Constitution. It protects our RIGHT and ENTITLEMENT to Freedom to succeed.

WHERE? WHICH RIGHT IS THAT? Amendment please?

Such a well read fellow like yourself would of course know I was referring to Romney's remarks during the debate. What specifically do you believe is a lie though?

Karl Marx himself said this: I am certainly not a Marxist.

See my point?

Except the word "succeed" isn't even in the constitution. What else you got?

Obama or Romney? because they are on the same team.

I'm certainly not complaining about what Obama has to say because there is nothing there to complain about. It's just the same old triteness we've come to expect from this president, where banality is dressed up to sound like something profound.

There is nothing there and he has nothing to offer.
