I have no desire to change their culture, I just tire of their ranting, raving, and rioting over every little perceived offense. They are essentially the children of the world, and they need to grow up.
That is weird.
Let them riot. That's their problem. What I don't get is our (the U.S.) need to meddle in everyone's affairs. Why can't we just trade with a country and let them run things the way that they want?
Except for our war efforts (which I have opposed since prior to our going in), we aren't meddling. They are trying to meddle, by expecting us to change our constitutional rights, based on their own culture.
Yeah, but what is in it for us?
I wouldn't be surprised that the US is buying resources from Egypt for less than the market price. It is typically what we do.
And, they just want their resources to fuel their economy. An understandable deal if you ask me.
You do realize that we as a nation subjugated a whole race, often times under the guise of religion, right? Don't act like our hands are clean of hate and bigotry. That's their culture and just because we don't like it, doesn't mean we have the right to change it.
We do? An example would be nice. And they want the resources TO SELL to fuel their economy. We are a customer, just like other nations. All customers jockey for a good deal.

Was that post supposed to be relevant to the topic. President Morsi demanded we respect Arab culture. I won't. I am not demanding that he, or you, respect our culture. President Obama does not respect Americans so why should you?
And, I did not suggest that we should change their culture. We can't. If they want to perform clitoridectomies on all the girls that's their business. If wife beating is okay with them that's their business. If honor killings are okay with them that's their business. Executing homosexuals? Their business. But, if President Morsi demands I "respect" this he can forget about it. Won't happen. And if he or any other want to demand that the U.S. modify their culture to permit these behaviors they can forget about it.
In spite of the liberal hatred of free speech, we need free speech and should ignore demands to do away with free speech whether from U.S. citizens or foreign nationals.
Liberals hate free speech? When did that happen? The ACLU is in court constantly aruging for free speech rights. Even for right wing asses.
What exactly are the 'resources' that the U.S. buys from Egypt?
So, what is happening to exports from Egypt?
Seems they are up. and what are these exports?

Natural gas is #1? It wouldn't seem that would last much longer.
Cotton? We can grow our own, and do.
Iron and steel products? We should make our own, then we wouldn't have a rust belt.
Items returned to U.S. then reimported? What's that, I wonder?
Now, is the US really profiting all that much from trade with Egypt?
So other than Natural Gas, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of 'natural resources' that we are dependant upon. And arguably we aren't dependant on natural gas from Egypt.

There is no question we aren't dependent on natural gas from Egypt. We have plenty of our own. We aren't dependent on cotton, either, or anything else that is listed.
So, we're not exploiting Egypt for its natural resources, as was alleged earlier in this thread.
I didn't think so, which was why I asked the question. People just throw charges like that out there and expect that everyone else will accept them as the truth.
If by "more independence", I wonder if he also means less monetary aid?
Color me skeptical, but somehow I doubt it.

If I were to offer a guess, I would think we're probably trying to help prop up their economy via trade with them.

So you would have been opposed to the economic sanctions on the aparthied regime in south africa? Your position is that it doesn't matter what a country does to its own people as long as we can trade with them and make a buck?
