Looks like that one day event didn't help Chick-Fil-A as much as the long term effect hurt them

Chick-fil-A agrees to stop funding anti-gay groups, Chicago alderman says | The Lookout - Yahoo! News

Chick-fil-A, the fast food chain that sparked a firestorm earlier this year after its president made public comments against same sex marriage, has agreed to stop funding anti-gay groups, a Chicago alderman says.

Joe Moreno, the alderman whose opposition of a proposed Chick-fil-A on Chicago's north side helped fuel the controversy, told the Chicago Tribune the company has pledged to include a statement of respect for all sexual orientations in a memo to staffers and has promised that the WinShape Foundations, its not-for-profit arm, would no longer contribute money to groups that oppose gay marriage.

Chick-Fil-A realized that bigotry was going to substantially hurt their long term profits.

So long as this was all there was to it.

In other words, they'll wont speak up on how they really feel towards homosexuals.

While absolutely possible, I think I'll believe it when I see Chick-Fil-A do such action rather than when a Chicago politician says it

I'm not sure the whole thing wasn't contrived to generate the short term sales increase. It wouldn't be the first time Christians played the martyr to make a buck.

Could be...but it appears that all of those people who showed up one day to express their bigotry didn't go back enough to make up for all of the business that they lost as a result. If it wasn't for their nasty food, I would have to go and patronize them myself now.

"Bigotry"?! How about removing that word and inserting 'belief". Contray to the left opinions are still legal in the U.S. You should feel very lucky to ;ive in a country where homosexauals are permitted to exist. Try marching for the cause in many other countries throughout the world and i guarantee you a quick trip to the gallows. Bless Chic-Fil-A And who gives a rat's rear what any trash ball from Chicago says.

Your assumed analysis of why the change is completely wrong. It was likely NOT a "profit" decision at all - plus this all has been extremely profitable to the company. But to some non-religious people I suppose they could conclude all of life is only about money, so I can understand your assumption.

No, this isn't the first time politicians have created a diversion from real political issues that are otherwise the media topic. This was always a non-story.

Free speech is in the process of effectively being outlawed by Democrats. Organizing protests against those expressing views they don't like and apologizing to rioters and murders for a video that is critical of their politically-correct now religion.

The free market at work.

Act like a dick and people will withhold their custom.

Thats how its supposed to work.

The outlaw that you claim is manufactured outrage from the right.
You will not find any democrat/republican/lib/conservative that says Cathy does not have the right to say what he said. Of course he does. The fundies just dont like the repercussion of his action.

How do you explain it then, Chick fil A made this decision "out of the goodness of their hearts".....LOL....hardly. This is clearly a business decision. It is very likely that ChickFilA experience a big surge in profit from the bigots who patronized them immediately during the initial incident, however, they saw a big decline in their business after. Decisions like this aren't made "out of the goodness of their hearts"...they are made because they affect the almighty dollar bottom line.

They have indeed been the target of a lot of hate and religious intolerance. The media has even piled on with its taint of ostensible objectivity by constantly labeling those who would promote traditional marriage as "antigay."

Yay, gay people can eat chicken again!

When in doubt, call everyone who disagrees with you a bigot.

Chick Fil A can do what they want with their money.

You have some sort of data that indicates they have lost sales? To be honest, the stores here look busier than ever and frankly...I didnt eat there much before and now we take the fam there with the grandkids at least every other week. Has nothing to do with their stance on gay marriage, I just didnt realize how good their chicken sandwiches are compared to every place else. Peach shakes rock it as well.

In this case...they saved about 3.2 million in donations.

That whole thing was perhaps the greatest publicity stunt I've ever seen.

Only the exact opposite happened, didn't it? They flocked to those businesses.

That whole thing was perhaps the greatest publicity stunt I've ever seen.

It was a publicity stunt called by Democrats to deal with Obama reversing himself on gay marriage. It was not Chik-a-filia that called the press conferences or for rallies/protests.

It was the owner of Chick-a fila who called a press confrence and made the anti-gay statement. He new exactly what he was doing.

Because it isn't just a "belief"....it is a belief rooted in bigotry, plain and simple. And while you are right that opinions are still legal in the U.S., I have found that most of those complaining about "infringements on their first amendment rights" are usually REALLY complaining about living with the consequences of their ignorant or bigoted speech.

Chick Fil A can do what they want with their money.

Absolutely...and they are learning one of the valuable lessons in American today, bigotry and intolerance kills your bottom line.

Chick-Fil-A realized that bigotry was going to substantially hurt their long term profits.

Well, they just guaranteed that I'll never be stopping in any of their stores.
