Remember, Obama went to Egypt to speak to a select few students at an Egyptian University
He also visited Egypt to vist his dear friend Mubarak - you know the dictactor that has been pocketing billions of dollars in so called US foreign aid so that he can oppress his own people and prevent democratic progress in Egypt
Funny how the USA supported Mubarak right up to the day he had to step down - then the US came out with a statement saying he had to step down - lol
No such statement for that great Saudi dictatorship or the tyranny in Bahrain
During the period of the cold war, we made deals and pacts with many Dictators and less desirable types in order to gain support for countering Soviet Expansionist policies and the spread of "communism". I believe we should not of made some of those deals. We also have been attempting to broker deals and actions to bring peace to the Middle East, particularly in the area of getting Muslim countries to recognize Israels right to exist.
However, we were limited with working with governments that already existed. Unless you think we should be funding and stirring up rebellion in all these places, we deal with who is there. Mubarak was a dictator and probably an unmitigated ass, but he was also the one we had to deal with. We did get him to recognize Israel and to make at least some peace efforts with them. Same as we have done with Jordan and Turkey. Syria, Iraq and others, we had less influence with and were unable to get concessions on Israel from them. But get concessions, from some, we did and you do not get them for free.
Unless you are a complete isolationist, we will have to deal with other countries in the world. That means dealing with the governments that exist there or we replace them. Replacing them is an expensive and frankly unaccomplishable task. However, we have been able to get some concessions through economic pressures from some governments. China, due to economic pressure from us, created and allowed "capitalist zones" in their country. The even kept Hong Kong as one when it reverted back to their control in '97. Also, it appears that while China retains socialist control of old businesses, they are no longer using socialism for new businesses. Saudi Arabia has started having local elections in some areas, a result of US influence and pressure. The US also sponsored and supported the change in Pakistan from a Dictatorship to a Democracy. I approve of this method of bringing about change. It will not bring it about overnight, but it will bring it about without the need for military actions or violent rebellions. We have examples of both G. H. Bush and G. W. Bush using these methods, but for some reason, we have not seen them with Clinton or Obama.
Obama has not only not used economic influence to broker changes from other nations, he has declared the socialist/communist revolution in China as something to be celebrated. From this action, he appears to believe that oppression and denial of human rights in order to bring about Marxist changes in a country is not only acceptable, but desirable.
Some of these countries will not change through pressure but will require military actions and rebellion. So yes, we should just ignore those idiots and blow their assess away when given the opportunity and just reason to do so. This current situation is brought about because of intolerance on the part of the zealots and the refusal of the current regime in the US to take a strong stance.
