Egyptian protesters tear down US flag in attack on Cairo embassy [W:53]

You should study your history, and read the news while you are at it.

Iran is a US allie
Egypt is a US allie

US supports Iranian leader, the Shah of Iran
US supports Egyptian leader, Hosni Mubarak

Enter Jimmy Carter, who does not support the Shah of Iran
Enter Barrack Obama, who does not support Hosni Mubarak

Revolution takes place and the Shah of Iran is ousted
Revolution takes place and the Hosni Mubarak is ousted

Radical Islamic fundamentalists take control of Iran
Radical Islamic fundamentalists take control of Egypt

Extremists that support the new government storm the US Embassy in Tehran
Extremists that support the new government storm the US Embassy in Cairo

Iran is no longer a US allie, supports terrorist organizations and vows to destroy Israel
???????

See a pattern here?

Firstly, its spelled ally, not "allie." I can understand the occasional spelling mistake but that was just too much.

Anyway a few key points:
1) Egypt went through a democratic process to elect its new government, its revolution was not like that of Iran. AND the man they elected is not radical, fundamental, Islamist. Egypt is still a US ally for now.
2) Egyptians did not storm the US embassy in Cairo, they jumped over the wall and took down the American flag but now seem to be contained by riot police, they did not enter the actual embassy building nor have any hostages been taken, and the government(ie riot police) is working with us not against us.
3) Egypt has promised to uphold the peace treaty with Israel and has actually worked with Israel somewhat in dealing with insurgents in the Sinai Peninsula

See the difference? :/

We'll see how this all plays out in the coming years, but my gut tells me that the new government will not respect Israel's right to exist, will give aid and/or support to terrorist organizations and will not be friends with the US very much longer. Those people who stormed the US Embassy are a reflection of the Muslim Brotherhood and I believe just gave us a preview of the things to come.

Buckle up everyone.

They definately will not keep the salafis in check. Plus they never have been able to keep the Bedouin in check. Who don't care who as they dont play sides.

So, that makes it ok for them to storm our embassy? :rofl

Oh come on, when is Obama going to get tough with the terrorists?

interesting - one minute you call the same people terrorists then they are freedom fighters

make up your mind

Why is the USA hated so much all around the world?

Why is the US flag the most burnt and desecrated symbol on the planet?

any ideas?

Indications so far have been leaning towards Salafi movements as being the people causing the protests and violence in Egypt and Libya. Salafi is different from the Muslim Brotherhood, it is a much more fundamentalist view on Islam and the world and has a recent history of violence although its difficult to blame the whole movement for the actions of some because of its nature, its a philosophy on Islam and life but not a centralized international movement like the Muslim Brotherhood was.

The Salafist movement is a significant factor in Egyptian politics, however it is far from a majority. I wish I could point to how their candidate fared in the elections but he was disqualified because apparently his mother was US citizen, how embarrass for him I suppose.

Because Russia doesnt have enough flags that they manufacture and due to the Chinese wanting to charge an extra 33cents to the dollar products?.

According to the bolded, I guess violence is considered free speech. Funny, but I doubt they would sit idly by, and be understanding, if the same thing were happening over here, at the hands of our own people. Our government seems to have no problem labeling our citizens as terrorists, and watching them like hawks, but the same standard is apparently not applied if you feel you have a legitimate reason for being violent.

If that happened here and people attacked a foreign embassy I believe they would be shot or at least pepper sprayed... This is just crazy and makes no sense.

Did Clinton Respond to the Embassy in Kenya? Think Obama will respond to this one in Benghazi?

Obama is no Ronald Reagan. Reagan knew how to respond when Americans were killed overseas.

Yes he will.
He will apologize.

EDIT to add .... Obama The Great Apologizer.

Sigh...don't we have Marines at our Embassies? Anyway. This all started over WHAT? I find it harder and harder to take Islam seriously when they can't invade embassies over cartoons and youtube videos. I never got this offended when South Park depicted Jesus. All I can do is still respect the First Amendment in all aspects? It is a sad day when in America we support their Freedom of Religion, and we get hated because we practice freedom of speech.

Maybe we need a shoot on breach policy on our embassies? Sadly that would probably just stir the hornets nest...

Obama is no Ronald Reagan. Reagan knew how to respond when Americans were killed overseas.

Like that 1983 Beirut Marine Barracks bombing, Ronald Reagan withdrew all forces from the land back out to sea? Or trading guns to Iran in exchange for the release of American hostages?

Doesn't seem like typical conservative responses to terrorism. Of course Operation Urgent Fury was direct military involvement in response to the taking of American hostages.

Clinton condemns the act. But this a fact that underscores this Admistrations assessment of the ME in the first place. Moreover this was started by Sunni Speaking from his Mosque and condemming some acts from other dates.

Thats the Sunni......our alleged pals.

He was killed on US Soil and in Service to his Country. Obama had best be on the phone with Morsi and layin into his azz.

In Libya, gunmen in Benghazi attacked the U.S. diplomatic compound on Tuesday evening, clashing with Libyan security forces, officials said.
Abdel-Monem Al-Hurr, spokesman for Libya's Supreme Security Committee, said, "There is a connection between this attack and the protests that have been happening in Cairo."

In Benghazi, Reuters reporters on the scene could see looters raiding the empty U.S. consulate's compound, walking off with desks, chairs and washing machines.
Unknown gunmen were shooting at the buildings, while others threw handmade bombs into the compound, setting off small explosions. Small fires were burning around the compound.
Passersby entered the unsecured compound to take pictures with their mobile phones and watch the looting.

No security forces could be seen around the consulate and a previous blockade of the road leading to it had been dismantled.
"The Libyan security forces came under heavy fire and we were not prepared for the intensity of the attack," Hurr said.....snip~
