"The Afghan Taliban have said they are doing everything in their power to kidnap or assassinate Prince Harry, who arrived in Afghanistan last week to fly attack helicopters. The prince is in Afghanistan on a four-month tour, based out of Camp Bastion in volatile Helmand province, where he will be on the frontline in the Nato-led war against Taliban insurgents. "We are using all our strength to get rid of him, either by killing or kidnapping," the Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told Reuters by telephone from an undisclosed location.

"We have informed our commanders in Helmand to do whatever they can to eliminate him," Mujahid added, declining to go into detail on what he dubbed the "Harry operations". The 27-year-old prince, who is third in line to the throne, took up his new role two weeks after he was photographed frolicking naked in Las Vegas. Known in the military as Captain Wales, he first served in Afghanistan in 2008 as an on-ground air controller, but his tour was cut short when a news blackout, designed to protect him while on the frontline, collapsed.

The Ministry of Defence has said the threat to Prince Harry's life in Afghanistan is less severe in helicopters."

Should the the Taliban attempt this the only thing they can assure themselves of is more occupation with a view toward their own annihilation.

That would be a pretty stupid thing to do, Brittain is withdrawing major combat forces anyway and the U.S. isn't that far behind them. Take a member of the royal family and next thing you know you aren't fighting the RAF and army, but rather you have the SAS to deal with. They don't play nice.

Well they almost got Gen. Dempsey's Plane.....which I still think Afghan Security Leaked it was coming in. Yet, I don't think that the Brits Could do it alone.

Yeah.....I was thinking more along that line and the End of a certain Group of People. Not the Use of an Entire Army or RAF.

Not only would brittish special forces be involved, but we would end up re-engaging with full SF as well. Our war weariness would not supercede an ally with a captive VIP, it would not end well for forces who already have a shot at recapturing the country anyway.

i think it's a poor idea to have him there again. security around him is going to have to be increased, so he's not just putting his own life on the line. i understand and admire his desire to serve his country, but it's my opinion that choosing to do so in this manner has the potential to do more harm than good.

Well ya heard.....the Haqqani stated they would not harm nor kill the American Prisoner they have. Despite us classifying them as a terrorist group last week. These Taliban I doubt are tied to them.

I love the idea of Harry deploying to Afghanistan. It shows the kind of commitment NATO allies should have in the fight. Furthermore I want to go back to the days where royals establish bleak or terrible titles based upon their war activities. For example "The Dread Prince Harry, Scythe of Helmand, Lord Militant British Forces".

No one ever accused the Taliban of being the picture of mental health.....

Didn't he already serve in Afghanistan once? If I recall correctly, some British tabloid leaked that he was being deployed in Afghanistan a few years ago, and the British government quickly pulled him out after it became public knowledge. It seems like a bad idea to send him back.

I don't think anyone could say where the affiliation is, but the Taliban isn't known for treating prisoners well. They get a high profile target no one knows what kind of message they would try to send, but I have a feeling it would be something that would reignite major operations.

Well if they succeed in kidnapping Harry the Taliban is sure to get "shanked"...
Just the SAS would be a handful for them, but then you know we're going in with SEAL, Ranger, and SF operatives. It would not end well.

These people may be crazy, but, there is no way they would invite these forces into their lives. They have nothing to gain.

Do any of our "Royal Families" have children in the Military assigned to dangerous areas?

That's a real question.

That ought not be a concern for us. The idea that Prince Harry is—because of his parentage—any more valuable than any of the other soldiers of equivalent rank in the area is based on a principle which we soundly rejected when we founded this country. Perhaps one of the most well-known, but poorly-understood lines in the Declaration of Independence is “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…”. I guess too many of us don't really understand that this is a rejection of the European tradition of royalty and nobility, which holds that some men are born better than others, simply because of the titles that their parents hold and their position within the whole royal/noble hierarchy.

Beside that, if the British think that their princes are that valuable, then they ought not be so willing to put them in harm's way.

My best friend made a good point about Bush never serving in 'Nam. H.W. was at the C.I.A. head at the time, talk about an international incident if his son were in captivity. Not saying that is why G.W. didn't go to theater or not but it made sense to me. In current theaters, not aware of any high profile children serving.

I hope to get a pony for Christmas.

IMO.. Prince Harry shouldn't go.. The focus on him would endanger his fellow soldiers.

What you are saying is true, and I agree. Because the U.K. has been a long time ally though I would almost guarantee we go in.

I agree with you, it's a security nightmare scenario. Then again when the royal family wants to do something it's kind of hard to stop them.

It appears that the Taliban has caught the attention of NATO, "in Brussels NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen dismissed the threat, Yeah, well, obviously that is not a matter of concern. I mean, we do everything we can to protect all our troops deployed to Afghanistan, whatever might be their personal background." Looks like the Taliban has been answered....

It doesn't make sense to announce your plans to your enemy.

Maybe they have some other target in mind?
