Canada cuts ties with Iran, closes embassy, orders Iranian diplomats home

okay ignore

at least you dont hide the fact that it is just interested in oil and power

Okay Medusa.....I have seen those Maps. Thats not US Policy tho. Also it shows the West Bank Undetermined. Plus I don't see all those countries losing Land they have. Not all of them in Red. Moreover the Col said he was draconian about what he had come up with. US thinking is to get Turkey to be a Major Player in the Region.

All I can say is something is coming down the pipe and it.....Ain't OIL! (pardon the Play on words there) ;)

I hope not.. It will be a disaster. Nobody wins.

what??

.................

Exactly what I said. The US has been spending huge amounts of money in the form of foreign aid, and sticking our noses in where it doesn't belong for far too long. If I were in the decision-making position, I'd stop foreign aid, and let everyone do their own thing, however they want to. Alot of people in the world despise our intervention, but they are more than happy to take our money. I'd personally rather stop the funding, and leave other countries alone altogether.

Frankly, I would be more than happy for us to let everyone handle their own ****, and stop wiping snotty noses around the world.

Ah ha.. You have hit the nail on the head.. Israel and Iran have to want a just peace as much as we want it for them, otherwise we are just getting jerked around by both.

no you said snotty nose.......

Despite its might and shear strength, geography literally works against U.S. naval power in the Strait of Hormuz and the Persian Gulf. The relative narrowness of the Persian Gulf makes it like a channel, at least in a strategic and military context. Figuratively speaking, the aircraft carriers and warships of the U.S. are confined to narrow waters or are closed in within the coastal waters of the Persian Gulf. [See map above]

Yes but this is not about Turkey. It's about what going to take place with Iran. Even tho Mya was focusing on the Canadians pulling up out of dodge.

Making the Strait of Hormuz Redundant to Weaken Iran?

The entire world knows the importance of the Strait of Hormuz and Washington and its allies are very well aware that the Iranians can militarily close it for a significant period of time. This is why the U.S. has been working with the GCC countries – Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and the U.A.E. – to re-route their oil through pipelines bypassing the Strait of Hormuz and channelling GCC oil directly to the Indian Ocean, Red Sea, or Mediterranean Sea. Washington has also been pushing Iraq to seek alternative routes in talks with Turkey, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.

Both Israel and Turkey have also been very interested in this strategic project. Ankara has had discussions with Qatar about setting up an oil terminal that would reach Turkey via Iraq.

The Turkish government has attempted to get Iraq to link its southern oil fields, like Iraq’s northern oil fields, to the transit routes running through Turkey. This is all tied to Turkey’s visions of being an energy corridor and important lynchpin of transit.....snip~

Although Turkey would become an Energy Corridor and the Lynchpin of the Plan!

And tommorow Canada shall drop trillions of gallons of maple syrup on Tehran to make the flies attack the populace.

Sorry can't all our maple syrup was stolen. I'm not kidding either there was a great maple syrup heist here recently that stole 30 million$ in maple syrup. Don't worry though it was all insured.

This is why I freaking hate it that we depend on the ME for any oil whatsoever.

The aims of re-routing oil away from the Persian Gulf would remove an important element of strategic leverage Iran has against Washington and its allies. It would effectively reduce the importance of the Strait of Hormuz. It could very well be a prerequisite to war preparations and a war led by the United States against Tehran and its allies.....snip~

I agree, I say go to an Alcohol based fuel.....and I am totally against the sharing of any Military Technologies whatsoever. With Anyone! ANYONE!

Go Canada go!!!!!!

Stop it with the oil .... and give a hand to Canada! :applaud

I wanted to get a little history, some perspective as to the relations between these countries. The degeneration of any positive coexistance had started to become eroded back in 2003 when a Canadian citizen died in an Iranian prison. "The frosty relations between the two capitals became even more restrained in 2003 when an Iranian-Canadian photographer, Zahra Kazemi, died while in jail in Iran. Iran said she died of a stroke but Canada insisted she died under torture because of a skull fracture. A number of Iranian-Canadians are currently held behind bars in Iran, including Hamid Ghassemi-Shall who is facing execution after being convicted of espionage, a charge his family say is trumped-up."

Further, "Payam Akhavan, a professor of international law at McGill University in Montreal, said the recent row was the worst crisis in bilateral relations between Tehran and Ottawa for many years. "I think the closure of Iranian embassy in Ottawa should be seen in the context of concerns by the Canadian government about the Islamic republic's recent activities in its Ottawa mission, including using it to establish wider presence in Canada through a series of ostensibly cultural activities, at universities and other institutes and infiltrating the Iranian diaspora and neutralising opposition to the regime," he said."

I had no idea, Connery... I knew that during the reign of the Shah he often had several thousand "political prisoners"....

If this is true, Canada should have cut ties much earlier.

I don't think Sharon began threatening Iran until 2003.

To take a step back with such a highly charged issue is necessary. Canada has a large Iranian population with a vested interest in good relations, but, that relationship must go both ways and benefit all parties. Indeed, "Canadians who have Iranian nationality are warned in particular that the Iranian regime does not recognise the principle of dual nationality," it said. "By doing so, Iran makes it virtually impossible for government of Canada officials to provide consular assistance to Iranian-Canadians in difficulty."

Good for Canada! Iran made it pretty clear with the attack on the British embassy on where they stand with the west and respect for diplomacy

Canada rocks with this decision! one only wonders why the present US administration is not doing the same as Canada did!

While the British embassy would have been enough it is so much more than that. No country that supports democratic values could ever have any effective or worthwhile relationship with a country like Iran.

Most of them came here before the revolution so them and especially their children feel no connection to Iran in anyway and couldn't care less what Canada's policy stance on it is.

Well.....not while they are under a Theocracy anyways. But do you think Cyrus The Great is Rolling over in his grave to see whats Become of the Persians?
