In NC, Student Insurance Costs Rise Under Obamacare

my insurance costs have doubled in the time leading up to the PPACA. to me, this seems more of an indictment of our inefficient, employer-based health care. employers should not be health care providers. it makes American businesses less competitive.

Actually, the rates went up, because Obamacare requires to raise their claims cash reserves up to 85%. The insurance are going to have to make up that loss somewhere. The only place they can do it, is by raising premiums.

my rates doubled before the PPACA was even considered.

And it's going to get even worse.

certainly. mostly because the PPACA leaves in place the inefficient employer-based health care model. an employer should not be one's health care provider.

Group plans--like all bulk purchases--are the best way for common folk to get insurance. It's how business works; volume vs. profit margin.

I never understood why we didn't just roll the whole program into Medicare, with some tweaks. We could have probably gone a long way toward shoring up Medicare with just the money that'd be saved by the boondoggle that is sure to go along with the PPACA. Somehow, though I don't know how, I think it was probably a gift to the insurance companies.

i agree. the final bill, like so many other initiatives, was most likely purchased.

Is that how you get your car insurance?

Does your car insurance cost less, or more than your health insurance?

Do you have better customer service from your car, or your health insurance company?

Do you more clearly understand what is and is not covered with your health insurance policy, or your car insurance policy?

When it comes to general maintenance (routine visits to the doctor, oil inspections) are you more cost-conscious with your mechanic, or with your doctor?

I DO save money on my car insurance by having more than one vehicle on one policy.

I don't think you can compare auto imsurance to health insurance. Health insurance brings more overhead with it for the insurance company. I'm 43 y/o and I've been hospitalized twice, been to the emergency room a half dozen times a several checkups and cases of the ****s. I filed my very first auto claim last week.
