On the other hand, if a person wants to have the lopitoffome performed, that's pretty much positive confirmation of a GID diagnosis. Nobody healthy is going to subject themselves to hormone treatments and the removal of their genitalia for the nominal 'improvement' of being transferred to a womens' prison.

Whether he has a disorder or not is totally irrelevant. There is no justifiable NEED for this individual to have a sex-change operation. There is no justifiable NEED for ANY individual to have a sex-change operation. If they can't or won't pay for it themselves, too bad.

Someone else mentioned that it might be a pretty solid ploy to get placed in a womens prison since he knows thats where he is going to end up for the rest of his life. I doubt people will be rushing to commit crimes so they can have a Bobbitectomy. But in this particular case do I think he might be playing the system? Yep...sure...its possible. I dont know the guy...never interviewed the guy.

No...the are malingerers. They simply know how to play the system. The tragic reality is we drain so many resources on the malingerers that there arent enough resources...or case workers...to adequately care for those truly in need. Case management workloads are skyrocketing. Doctor patient caseloads are really unmanageable beyond "here...try this for two months and come back and see me"

If they're pretending, then they're not mentally ill. My post was referencing people who are genuinely ill. And if someone's going for gender reassignment surgery, it's pretty good odds they're not pretending.

Sigh...I get it. That was the point. Not everyone diagnosed 'is'. And as for the murderer in question...it wouldnt be the first murderer to decide they wanted a sex change operation...

A she is someone with xx chromosomes,has a uterus and a vagina.The man in the OP has none of those things,he doesn't even have a fake vagina. So yes he is pretending to be something he isn't.I suspect he is merely trying to get transferred to a women's prison, he would rather look like a woman in prison than to be treated like a woman in prison.

There are many countries where SRS is free. If you cannot afford the procedure all you have to do is move to one of those country and live there until you are eligible for the free surgery. Much easier then committing a crime and spending your life in jail.

And as I have said before there are women without the xx chromosomes and a uterus. And SRS gives you the vagina.

Is it possible that she is doing this to get transferred to a womens prison? Yes. Although very unlikely. Psychologists are trained to figure out who is and isnt transgendered.
 
I think people have gotten off the point. Is it important to discuss what this person's mental status is or whether this person is a he or she in their own mind. The point here is whether we the taxpayers should pay for an elective surgery. We're not talking about heart surgery or cancer, we are talking about giving an unnecessary surgery to someone who is in prison for killing someone.

Apparently doctors testified on his behalf saying this was not an elective surgery due to his mental condition. I think that is BS because it is still elective in the sense he will not die without it and suicide would be better than the rest of his life in a cold cell.

The doctors that made the diagnosis of GID or Transsexualism arnt going to be the same doctors that actually operate. A surgeon cannot diagnose a patient with either and a psychologist cannot operate on a patient. So the doctors that made the diagnosis wouldnt have made the diagnosis just to make money.

It seems that most people here are in agreement that the state should not pay for SRS for an inmate although I get why they considered it necessary for the well being of the patient.

Yep, this. It's much easier to move up to Canada, instead of committing a crime that will get you a life sentence.

Or as I just found out today there are plenty of companies that will pay for your SRS, hormones, electrolysis ect if you are an employee there.

That may be true but that is still a private matter between a company and its employee. This issue is between taxpayers and the prisoner in question.
 
What is completely ridiculous is that they are calling this a "medical need." Such bull crap. This guy is not only a inmate but a convicted murder who strangled his wife with a cord and left her body in the trunk of a car in a mall parking lot in North Attleborough, MA. I've been seriously thinking about moving out of this backwards-ass state.

No, Viktyr this individual is a MAN. Nothing that is going to be done to him will change that. He will still be genetically MALE. He may be the ugliest guy on the planet, but he will be MALE until the day he dies.

Sure, he's genetically male. But there are multiple congenital conditions under which being genetically male is not the same as being physically, psychologically, and/or socially male and this WOMAN has been medically diagnosed with one of them by a qualified and accredited physician. I know you're not comfortable with complicated facts that interfere with your simplistic worldview, but you are simply flat ****ing wrong on this, you've been proven flat ****ing wrong on this on multiple occasions, and I'm forced to conclude that the only reason that you insist on being flat ****ing wrong on this is to antagonize people who don't live up to your high standards of neurological normalcy.

I'm not here to antagonize anyone, Viktyr. I'm simply pointing out the TRUTH.... which is that this individual will always be genetically MALE. Nothing is ever going to change that. Regardless of what sort of insanity exists in HIS mind, emotions, feelings, etc.... HE will always be MALE. Cutting HIS **** off and putting a pair of fake tits on him will not change that in any meainingful way.
 
Her brain is female, and the brain is what counts. People who actually study this condition for living pretty much overwhelmingly agree that the appropriate course of treatment is to 'correct'-- to the extent our crude surgeries allow-- the body to match the brain. Your insistence on using the incorrect pronouns for people afflicted with this condition is nothing more than sheer, bull-headed, mean-spirited truculence.
