(Reuters) - A federal judge issued a ruling on Friday that overturned early voting restrictions in Ohio, handing a victory to President Barack Obama's campaign, which had argued that the restrictions disproportionately hurt Democrats.

This is going to be appealed. The Federal judge invoked the Bush v. Gore decision in making his ruling, but when Bush v. Gore was decided, the Supreme Court specified that this ruling was not to be a precedent, and could only apply to that particual decision.

So, was the decision by Republicans to eliminate voting on the weekend before an election voter suppression, or a straightening out of the voter rules?

Truthfully, its hard to tell. It seems that the early voting scheme was all over the place in Ohio (when I say scheme, I mean system, nothing nefarious). Think the state might end up winning this one. Because the only exception they made was for military which is hardly unprecedented. So in a nutshell, it applies to everyone equally.

a clinton appointee. It depends upon the 6th Circuit panel that gets the case

Who gives a **** when people vote, so long as they do?

I still haven't heard a good reason to not give everyone the opportunity for early voting, it can only strengthen our democracy. By giving people more time to vote you will increase voter turnout and decrease the load on the election system by spreading it out over a few days.

Seriously whats the problem?

Vote fraud

Everyone votes early in Oregon and we have a few weeks before until MN of the election date ... !

Voter fraud is overblown and every citizen should have an opportunity to vote.

Pesky Democrat voters, going by who all these initiatives are aimed at.
