Ship Commander Fired After Harassment Claims

Served over 21 years and never saw that happen............Try again.....

I wasn't referring to when you served, I was saying in general. Your comment didn't limit it to when you served. This is what you said:

Being a straight man I can tell you that straight men have no interest in sexually harrassing gay men.....My experience it is the other way around.

Either you are blind to it or you live in a fictional idealistic world where straight men have no problem with gay people.

The point I am trying to make and it seems to go voer your head that in 21 years I have never seen a straight man sexually harrass anyone Gay.....I have seen many gay men kicked out of the Navy for harrassing straight men though. You can believe what you like, I could give a **** less....

This is the kind of thing that happens when you allow women to serve aboard a Navy combatant.........The Navy should not be used for social experimentation.....It is there to fight our wars..........We have enough problems already without mixing the sexes......If they have to serve at sea then put them on all female ships.........

"We agree on most issues my friend but we part company on this one........This is a pattern demeaning women......"

"...I worked for the U.S. government as a civilian for 25 years and I know what sexual harassment is and if you call a co worker Sweetie, especially if the woman is a feminist you can be charged.......I have seen guys charged for more less then that..."

"It doesn't matter....Its not appropriate.....He demeaned her while she was trying to do her job......"

"Its sexual harrassment plain and clear........You always try to change the subject..."

"Talk about hypocrisy.........."

You're fooling yourself NP. I served 23 and have seen it quite a few times.

Don't get me wrong my friend.........Sexual harrassment is wrong whether its done by a male or female and I don't condone it for one second...The point I am trying to make if you mix men and women at sea for a long period of time its going to happen...You can't stop it.....There are two ways to handle the problem.....Either remove all women from Navy Combatants or develop all women crews...You sure can't kick all the men off ships...........

Well, you obviously have a different definition of what harassment is. That, or you are completely full of ****. I'm sorry, I don't buy it.

I was a leading Chief Petty Officer on a AD when I retired...USS BRYCE CANYON (AD-36) WITH 30 men under me......I took many men to Captains Mast for violations to the UCMJ but none for sexual harrassment............Now I am done with you......Believe what you like.......

I think the problem was handled just fine. They canned the predator. Good for them!!! And thank goodness MOST men are good guys and would never do such things.

The important take away is that women want to be sexually harassed. We shouldn't blame the guy who got fired for sexual harassment.
What else should we expect of the guy with all those women around pressuring him to harass them?

Have you ever considered we served in different eras (1956-1977)

Yes, brother, I most certainly have. I served 1989-2012. We had far more women than you did, and as many in combat roles as not. In almost every division I ran (save one), following allowing women into my rate, a female was my star sailor.

Things change, NP, sometimes for the better. As a fellow Chief, I would think you'd understand that a sailor is a sailor and the only fault of a sailor is the fault of his or her Chief.

Should have never been a problem inthe first place.......I served under many Commanding Officer and never heard of one of them charged sexual harrassment...........Oh, when I was in the Navy no women served aboard a ship.:doh

Here is a flash for you my left wing friend.........Women sexual harrass to.............

You make these statements and it is obvious that you know NOTHING about recruiting standards. Google is our friend.

Not all officers are service academy grads. The subject of this thread was. However, you again demonstrate a lack of recruiting standards. Do you know how one gets into a service academy? The people at the recruiting offices are also our friend.

This was a common occurance in Europe in the past, but I have NEVER heard of that happening here. Maybe you could smarten me up about this.

Operative word here is "stories". Maybe you could enlighten me with some of your FACTS.

Like you said. Google is your friend. Punch in "drug addicts felons military" and watch the screen roll.

They do, a sailor is a sailor. All sailors deserve, and get, the same leadership. Btw, NP, my wife is a 20 year sailor as well...

Good for you. It doesn't change the fact that your views on sexual harassment are obviously skewed.

Thank you for your service Chief....If you have served on a DD then you know there are many dangers at sea for the crew. Mixing men and women just adds another.........

I wonder when you went to GQ did you ever see a woman on a fire party manhandling a P250 or P500 down a ladder? Just curious.

There were no women on my ship. I did get pulled out of a burning H-60, in Iraq, by a female though. I had passed out due to smoke inhalation. 5 years later, she Capped me.

Thank you for your service as well, brother.

Yes, well this is 2012, not 1950. Times have changed, and the world is leaving you behind.

I respect his service to the country, but what I said is true. The world is not going to go back in time.

And what you've done with it is not entirely a positive. Respect people that have given more than you have.

What I've done with what? I told you I respect his service, but that doesn't mean that I can't say what l think of his comments. That is another thing entirely, and that is what the forum is for. I'm sure he doesn't need you to protect him from me and my terrible comments. Besides, I didn't say anything more disrespectful than what he is showing to women service members by saying they don't belong.

Here some stats to chew on. . .

Part of the problem for the increase, critics say, is the quality of today's recruit.

The military is increasingly issuing something called "moral waivers," so they can enlist military personnel with felony convictions for crimes like rape and sexual assault.

“We don’t enlist convicted rapists in the armed forces of the United States,” said Michael Dominguez, the principal under secretary of defense for personnel and readiness. “If there’s a consensus 'that kid needs a second chance, I think he’s got it in him to be a solider,’ then they’ll let him into the armed forces.”

In fact, CBS News has learned that both the Army and Marine Corps did issue a number of "moral waivers" to enlistees with felony convictions for rape and sexual assault - something not acknowledged in a follow-up letter from Dominguez.

But it's not just who enters the military, it's how sex offenders are ultimately punished by the Command.

“We have documents showing that a private convicted of rape, who had a bad conduct discharge suspended so he could deploy to Iraq,” Couric told Dominguez. “How could the U.S. military allow a convicted criminal to go back into a situation where he could easily rape again?”

That's one of 200 I could find. . .

I am a vet, have the scars to prove it. That doesn't mean folks can't tell me what they think. Supposedly the whole point of my blood loss is so folks CAN say what they think.

Now seems to me NP's rather trollish stances invite at the very least a reminder that time marches ON and not BACK.

Hell, because I use progressive as my lean I get smears from 'conservative' posters.

If NP is half the old salt he claims to be he damn sure doesn't need you playing mommy.

So using your ahhhh 'logic' can I tell him no amount of pouting is going to turn back time. That his stalking horse of young seamen being uncontrollable lust buckets doesn't give cover to a navy warship's commander having bad judgement. How about 'gay underway' is ok, he needs to make peace with his past?

I'll match him scar for scar. He may have done more than some but he didn't do more than me. Best a vet should hope for is to not be called a baby killer and I doubt NP was anywhere near enough to the bad guys to kill anyone, much less babies.

not knocking his service, just applying your 'logic'... :peace
